@@matsteel2292 Just saw your note. Sorry, since I made that comment I have changed to a Baratza grinder. The Breville lasted many years, but its day had come. Lol

I thought the grinder had to be running while changing the grind settings. Although the indicator changes, the grind doesn't seem to change in mine unless it's running.
Okay, I just noticed a HUGE discrepancy between Phil McKnight’s Smart Grinder Pro and mine, which I’ve had now for only about a week. McKnight’s digital display shows COARSER all the way to the left and FINER all the way to the right. That’s the same as on mine; however, what is different is his also shows (L to R): PLUNGER - FILTER - PERCOLATOR - ESPRESSO. Mine shows (L to R): PRESS - PERC - DRIP - ESPRESSO. So where his PERCOLATOR range is, my DRIP range is in the same area. And while I realize this video was made nearly 9 years ago, what shouldn’t have changed was the grind size that’s appropriate for the different brewing methods. I’ve had my settings for my new Precision Brewer all over the DRIP range, and the grind size is still too fine. Probably explains the over extracted results I’ve been tasting. Since he chose a grind size of “50” for his filter coffee, I just now changed mine to reflect the same, and will try it out on my next pot. While this sounds like a gripe, it’s not, just a learning inconvenience. I wasn’t impressed with the “Gold” setting right out of the box-this could explain why. I LOVE my Precision Brewer (especially the Auto Start feature) and Smart Grinder Pro-as well as my 10 other Breville appliances! 😜
Confusing. Just purchased this grinder and the names and numbers are in different position than yours. I knew it’s wrong because I’m using the drip machine and the number is 52 under percolator position. Can’t use grind size lower than 50 on drip and drip stops at 49.
Does the grinder actually turn off automatically when not used for a certain time? I used to have the Sette 270 and it went off automatically after about 10 minutes when not used. Pretty handy to not unplug all the time...
Martin Kozma yes, keep grind size same let's say 14 and than change the shots from 2 to 1 and grinder will adjust the time itself. You may need to play with it first.
Only the cheapest machines use dual wall baskets exclusively. Those are meant to be used with pre-ground coffee and are not suitable for freshly ground coffee.
Oh yeah same here. However, moving to 10 minimizes the dust for me. Also don't know how long you've had the grinder but your upper burr may need to be replaced it on $28 on the Breville website. Do not get it from Amazon it's way over priced. Take it out fill with your fingertips for sharpness. I replaced mine after 6 years of use and it has made a differences.
It’s magic how your grinder has no grind remnants in it when you show the top burr being removed! Right after grinding too! 😂 But seriously, top burr should be set to the finest setting right out of the box. That’s the best for espresso, you can then just adjust your grind with the grinder knob.
From what I've read, the finest setting is not recommended as the burr will wear out more quickly, since at the lowest settings the metal parts are touching. A setting 3 or 4 is the lowest recommended, unless your burr has had some use already
@@Callusny the burrs will only touch if you also turn the fineness dial on the side right to the bottom fine setting. According to the info in the video, you are able to remove the upper burr and adjust it to a more coarse setting and then reinstall. That should solve your problem.
you can setting the timing for shots, so when you first get the machine weight it out and calibrate the timing setting, then you should get exactly same weight each shots, but remember to clean the grinder every week to prevent clogging, especially if you are using oily dark roast beans.
Output is determined by timed grind setting and of course ayk by beans. Once you've got it dialed in for the bean you use most output will change when change if you change beans.
