  • @delphinidin

    SPOILERS:
wtf jane?? if i was bill i would be SO mad/upset with her... she basically committed suicide in order to fix him back up with the woman he DIDN'T love - when the two of THEM could have been so much happier together! What an awful thing to do to him. She could have stayed married to him, not had kids -- it's not like the diaphragm didn't exist in the 1950s! -- and let her messed-up sister get on with healing from her mental health problems. If Jane was absolutely INSISTENT on Nancy having a kid, then Nancy and Bill could have adopted - altho I think it would have been unfair to force them together when they were never really in love in the first place. In their place, I (as bill) would be really furious with Jane, and as Nancy I would feel enormously guilty for the rest of my life, not only for the death of my own child, but for the death of my motherly sister!! (And also, they never really dealt with Jane's guilt for accidentally killing Deborah.) I dunno - this is a very "sweet" and sentimental movie, but it's also very contrived and not at all emotionally realistic. Once you start seeing the plotholes, you start to realize that this movie is a piece of swiss cheese.

There have been so many people crying out for aid over the generations,
    with low to minimal response.
There has been, and yet is absolute backlash for the poorest of black Americans
needing assistance while those in charge pour our tax dollars into weapons, other countries,
    and their infrastructure!
Now, we here from the richest of us.

The only 2 actors I was familiar with were Bob Cummings and Eve Arden. Both were strong personalities and lasted in the business for many yrs... Good movie but I thought it was quirky that e loved Jane in his heart but married her sister. You should always follow your heart. (I'm a romantic.)If you follow your heart you don't have to work so hard at your marriage. imo.

NOT for mature audiences-lol. That was some kind of bad. I can't believe Jane still had a face full of Wally Westmore makeup & that ridiculous lump on the side of her head neatly done after an emergency surgery. I scrubbed in on a few and have had 5 myself- you look your worst. Sappy, melodramatic soap with Scott faking a seductive, hoarse whisper the whole time. If you like that kind of thing, it is a good film technically, and Edith Head did the wardrobe, so... enjoy.

No one has commented on the awful doctor. He could have suggested birth control sterilization adoption. But no , just another example of men controlling women's bodies and lives. Nancy might have been one kind of nightmare but that doctor was much worse. In fact the writers might have seen Nancy as some kind of future prototype of a" liberated" woman. This is interesting in terms of the mish mash of stereotypes of a confusing post war period when the women of the era had already experienced life outside the box with meaningful jobs in industry beefing up the military and arms industry. A time when our country was united and not concerned with fighting and persecuting poor immigrants that wash our clothes and feed us. All people wish for are Ak 15s to murder each other. So glad I was a child in the 50s.

And the child you were in the 1950’s grew up to be bitter and rigid, unable to change with the fast moving tides. Take heart, someone who was 80years old in the 1950’s was probably disparaging you and talking trash about you, because you dont understand “such and such” or some other claptrap that bothers old people! Cheer up and stop insulting younger people!!!

Doc might have done better by you, but the reality is that women have babies, for all of human history… until the 1960’s on, they loved having babies. They made homes a wonderful place and if they loved their husbands and vice a versa it was a happy place for children to grow. It’s actually how God planned it. You may not like that plan of God’s and I’m sorry for you but He meant it for our best. He loves us, His children, and Jesus saved us for all eternity to live with Him. Blessings!

What a dreadful movie. I know it's a mistake to judge the past by current norms and standards, but they're hard to bypass when faced with this film's messaging: Women who expect to retain anything of themselves after marriage are selfish and 'bad.' The husband is the only person who matters. 'Good' women, on the other hand, suffer in silence, act like saints and die like martyrs. Pah!
