    I'm in love with the headset, I had a razer black shark pro and I've been debating with myself whether to get them for years. Now that I have them I have zero regrets, the wireless sound would cut out if I went to the kitchen or bathroom and with these it doesn't, they provide you with two batteries so you never have to recharge, and I can be connected to my phone and so I can hear notifications and even keep using them to listen to music and make calls whilst not using my PC and people can actually hear me well because I have a standup mic and always threw the mics on headsets away but with this it's retractable so I can keep it. And the sound quality and customisation is incredible I don't use my Sony headset at home anymore it's great.

    First off I have watched several vids on this headset from well known creators and none of them were close to as good as your vid. Keep up the good work and I think your channel will blow up. I subscribed. I do have a question that I haven't been able to find the answer to: I recently bought the Strix Scar 18' 2023 (the big dog flagship) laptop and need a good gaming headset, wireless. The last thing I want to do with a laptop is have to plug something in to it like this base station thing. In your honest opinion, do you really use it for your PC (console doesn't apply)? I have read that you don't need to use it as the headset comes with a pretty good app and so forth. Thanks for any info.

    • @pat_mgroyn
      @pat_mgroyn  Рік тому

      Wow, thank you forvthe kind words first of all, it means a lot! I use this headset for work everyday plugged into my PC. While you technically could connect to the laptop via Bluetooth or wired for the headset, I think that the only way to take advantage of the software (the sonar software to customize audio) is to use it either plugged in or with the base station plugged in. IMO, the base doesn't really interfere with anything and just sits out of the way. I basically plug it in and leave it on the side unless I need to adjust the volume quickly. Hopefully this helps, but let me know if you still have questions! Thanks for subbing!

    I just got these but preowned for 150 and so far they are nice. The battery is really long lasting, I just wish the ear cushions were a bit bigger for my big ears but maybe I can buy some bigger 3rd party ones? Eq is really neat, they’re light but I’m getting a small popping noise at times probably because they’re used already

    • @pat_mgroyn
      @pat_mgroyn  3 місяці тому

      $150 is a pretty solid price! If you're still finding the ear cushions to be uncomfortable, I would definitely recommend the wicked cushions. They're a noticeable step up from the stock cushions, which I found to be too skinny and unpadded. Maybe for the popping noises, you could try seeing if there is a firmware update? Otherwise, I'm not sure why you would be experiencing that... I hope that you're still enjoying the headset!

    I like 2 things about the headset .
    1 is having the eq on the dac meaning i can use it on console with saved settings .
    2 is swappable batteries.
    Things i absolutely think need improvement on are the mic because at this price point there is no reason it should be that awful especially compared to 150-250$ headsets.
    I think if corsair makes a hs80 max predecessor with the original mic that was in the hs80, internal memory to save eq settings , or a dac that allows you to control side tone and other options while not needing software open on a pc they would put every other headset to shame . The mic quality on that thing is freaky good for a wireless headset . For competitive i still find myself putting the hs80 maxs on if i know ill use my mic alot because its legit just leagues better . When im using that thing my friends think im using a stand alone mic system and i get compliments on the daily for how clean and clear the mic sounds .

    • @pat_mgroyn
      @pat_mgroyn  11 місяців тому +1

      I wish they advertised or marketed the "save to DAC" settings more, because I feel like a lot of people might not realize it's a feature. Love the swappable batteries as well!
      Haven't heard a lot about the hs80, but a good mic quality is always a good feature to have on a headset! Glad you're enjoying both.

    • @XxkrazymagexX
      @XxkrazymagexX 11 місяців тому +1

      @@pat_mgroyn yeah it is definitely a awesome feature for people not on PC with the arctis I had the pro wireless and got the novas . There are still settings locked on PC but it at least gives you saved eq which to me almost made me not get the hs80max and the swappable batteries gave me 100% up time .
      The arctis def sound amazing . I wouldnt say they are better or worse than the hs80max but they both sound amazing in dif ways. The nova is really rich and has amazing layering and intensity while the hs80max is just a crystal clear sound . Not to much punch or to little. Different styles but I love them both . I'm just glad we live in a age where 180$ headset scan come pretty close to rivaling 300-400$ ones .

    I have the headset my self, didn't have a problem with the nodge i the cup. tho the reason i bought new earpads was, original was getting too hot and sweaty. cooling gel on the Wicked Cushions saved it. could have been little thinner, but just alittle thicker than the original. can defently recommend them as well :D

    • @pat_mgroyn

      Yeah, wired quality and sound will always have a bit better quality just due to the fact that you're plugged directly into the source and not receiving the sound wirelessly. I find the bass lackluster, anc and passthrough kinda sucks, and listening to music over Bluetooth on my phone compared to any pair of earbuds is noticeably inferior. Like on my xbox headset there is just a dial where if you go down it prioritizes game volume, if you go up it prioritizes chat, then if you go in the middle both are prevalent. I feel like everything I see in regards to PS5 they say you need computer software and they dont really explain if you can adjust the volume on a console lol. Am I just missing something?

      I believe there should be a way to do this, looking it up online one person said they were able to use a cable plugged into the "line in" on the DAC with the other end plugged into their PS controller. Then the USB was used to plug the DAC into the console. Another potential solution would be to connect to your PC/phone via Bluetooth and use the discord app to talk. Hope this helps!

      If you're talking about different apps (like if you're playing Call of Duty but talking on discord) you would be able to adjust the volume if you're using the sonar software on PC. Otherwise you would have to change that in the audio settings. Or if you're on Xbox, you can change the balance to lean more towards party chat than game chat.

  • @District.24
    @District.24 Рік тому +7

    I strongly disagree. The Nova Pro wireless headset is weak in its two most important areas: sound quality and microphone performance. Every other category it dominates. The price tag reflects the features not the audio performance. It’s long been known that Steelseries headsets have good sound quality, but not very good like the Corsairs, or great like the EPOS headsets. If you can tolerate the “just okay” sound quality and the “meh” microphone quality, then this headset rules them all.

    • @pat_mgroyn
      @pat_mgroyn  Рік тому +3

      I personally think that the sound quality is good, and is to the level where I feel comfortable at for the headset. Everything comes out clear and sounds like quality audio to me. I JUST returned the nova pros, i bought them along side the TB Stealth Pros to do an elimination style comparison. The quality of the music is much fuller on the Stealth Pros, which i was much more satisfied with than the higher frequency range tuning that the nova has. I spent a couple hours listening to different genres too and the Stealth pros just obliterate the novas 40mm drivers. I have to say though, the nova pros build is probably the most ergonomic and comfortable on the head but feels extremely cheap tbh. The bells and whistles are packed for PC, but considering that i’m PS5 player it really made no sense to go with Sonar. Stealth pros have a unique function that some people think is a gimmick, it’s called super human hearing and at first i thought what possibly could this do that the novas can’t, and i was woefully surprised. Superhuman hearing.. “it just works” as Todd Howard would say, and i can hear “16 times the detail” as the nova pros when it comes to footstep tracking, it’s like being superman in an FPS game. Really helps for chaotic games like BF2042 or COD, but i’m sure any game can benefit from it. I’m happy with my new headset and honestly you can’t go wrong with either! great video btw, subscribed!

The only reason why steelseries is able to maintain their spot in the industry is solely due to pioneering their tech before the market saturation thus creating the golden standard, consumer loyalty via product familiarity, and a robust marketing campaign across all generations of hardware that boast as the best headset of all time. They will ride the hype train for as long as possible.

The 3.5 aux mode works amazingly for just sitting and I've done all the firmware updates. Audio is still crisp and I love the DAC and audio software its intuitive and easy to use. Probably the last headset I'll ever own or look to own.

    Same situation as you, been eyeing these and always in the back of my head. I have the Astro A50 wireless. Sad to say I’ve had 3 of them so far and they just break after 2 years. Cheap plastic that cracks and therefor won’t stay on your head correctly. I’m done with Astro. I’m hearing nothing but good things about the Nova Pros.

    Hey man, thanks for the great review! I do have one question about something you mentioned in the middle of the video - and that was about having your PC and Xbox in the same room. I have my Xbox in my living room, and my PC in my office. Is it possible to connect the headset to my Xbox downstairs via Bluetooth, so I don’t have to move the dock all the time? I would happily keep the dock on my desk and just use Bluetooth for the Xbox if this is an option :)

    • @pat_mgroyn
      @pat_mgroyn  Місяць тому

      So, you can't connect to the xbox via Bluetooth as far as I know, it needs to be plugged into it so the dock can send the audio to the headset. You might be able to connect to PC via bluetooth, but I'm not 100% sure. Honestly, I don't think moving the dock around is horrible. It's not overly large or anything, plus I would wager the bluetooth audio from the Xbox or PC (if possible) might sound a bit worse than if it was plugged into the port.
      Thanks for the kind words! Hopefully this helps!

    Hi, Im considering to purchase the new white Xbox version.
    Do you know if I would be able to use a USB switcher/HUB o similar product, so that I could have even more things connected beside my Xbox?
    I don’t mean to use them all at once, but so I don’t have to disconnect the USB cable from the PS5 and connect the PC all the time.

      Hmm...I know that you can have it plugged into the PC/Xbox or PC/Playstation at the same time, but I'm not sure if a USB hub would work. The logical part of me wants to say that it would, because I don't see how there could be an issue, but I can't say for sure. If you get the headset and try, let me know! I'd be interested in the results!

    I can answer it. No.
    After installing the GG software the base station died. It gets recognized but the OLED isn't working anymore.
    In addition the forums are full of firmware update issues.
    The sound is really good. But...a base station that feels cheap and stops working after installing the GG software and having known issues with firmware updates that aren't solved for years.
    Asking the support about my issue...as there is no section for problems with the base station I got just told I filled out the wrong form.
    They are supposed to have ANC and transparency. Either that was also not working or the effect is very low. I have to say my last Headset was a Razer Barracuda and I heard that the Barracuda has one of the best ANC of gaming headsets....if Razer wouldn't use cheap plastic (broken after 1,5 years) and they ignore warrenty.
    so...I recommend buying on Amazon. At least when from Europe.
    They doesn't worth 100 bucks.

    Is it just me or is this headset very uncomfortable? they changed the headband from the vastly superior velcro system which has a broad range of adjustability to this new system that has a limited 3 levels of depth. If you have a small head like myself they just absolutely do not fit and sag on your ears, I find myself constantly readjusting them. Also the earcups are insanely shallow, they did fix the obnoxiously huge ANC it had on it thankfully compared to the original model, but you ears still press up against the harsh metal surface of the drivers and there's no cushion between them, even with a wicked cushion pair on them I still find my ears in pain wearing them for like an hour. I love all the features of this headset (when the software actually works), but man these things are just insanely uncomfortable to me and will be sending them back. Wondering if anyone else had this issue.
    Other things to note, not sure if it's just my headset but I get this weird scratchy noise anytime I adjust the volume on my headset and the DAC, very weird.

    • @pat_mgroyn
      @pat_mgroyn  3 місяці тому

      I can definitely see how the headset could be a bit uncomfortable on a smaller head, it does seems to be a bit larger in the headband area. Sorry to hear that the sizing issues caused you to return the headset, but I'm glad that you did enjoy the features for the most part. I can't say I've had any issues with them hurting my head, but everyone is different and certainly going to have their own unique experiences with stuff! Can't say I ever had a scratchy noise when adjusting the audio, I wonder if something was messed up with the USB cable or something. Very strange.

    I bought my Xbox version headset from Best Buy about a year ago and barely use it. I mainly play COD warzone and found that the game is not compatible with the headset through game chat. Private chats and discords work fine but I can’t talk to players/teammates in game chat. The only fix I could find was to have the headset plugged in thus defeating the $350 price tag of it being wireless. Do you know of any workarounds for this problem or anyone else find a solution? I really wanna use this headset to its full capacity and not stuck with a “wireless headset that I gotta plug in to use” lol Any help would be greatly appreciated!

      That's a really weird issue to have....I can't think of anything that would cause that, at least headphones wise. I would definitely recommend checking the audio settings on the game itself, because I've never heard of a mic not working on a specific game. It might have something to do with what mic is selected or what the game is trying ro detect. Maybe setting the device to be "default system settings" for mic input? I would definitely try rooting around in the audio settings, I hope you're able to fix it!

    After swapping to thicker cushions to not feel the ANC nub. I love being able to take a phone call, and play my games at the same time. Very well made, and other than a feel small glitches that rarely happen. It can all be fixed by updating or taking out the battery and popping it back in. Hands down my favorite headset I've ever owned. I never messed around with any of the complex settings, but I never felt like I had to. If you plan on getting these, definitely check out aftermarket cushions for the best comfort.

    Don't get this headset if you have a big head, and don't buy this headset if you have had the Audeze Maxwell. This headset feels extremely cheap in how its built and how it feels in the hand, the earcups are fine and would probably feel better with WhickedCushion, but the angle the headband bent on my head I could already tell with WhickedCushions it would bend extremely weird.
    For this price tag the build needs to be way better, this headset feels very plastic like in the hand, not good at all.

      I have a big head, and I haven't had too many issues with the fitment of them. I do agree that the headband quality could be a little better (maybe just a stronger feeling plastic?) but I will say it's held up over the past year of daily use and withstood an unfortunate fall to hard wood floor when I took them off once. The stock ear pads are certainly pretty bad, and I think the Wicked Cushions made them so much more comfortable on my head, the stock ones were just too puny and thin! Thanks for the comment!

    The cusions of my HyperX Cloud Alpha from 2018 are also slowly falling apart. Ear pads + a third-party headband would cost me about $45, but a brand new Cloud Alpha (or even Alpha S) on sale would only cost $50-60, so that doesn't really make sense. But a new Cloud Alpha also feels wrong... So I guess I'll also kinda have to look into wireless headsets too to make it feel right lol.
    I've tried the Cloud Alpha Wireless for the last week, but sadly they have a subtle white noise in the background which I'm very sensitive to, no matter how low :(
    Are there any quirks like this that you've noticed with the Arctis in the meantime?

    • @pat_mgroyn

      So, the way to get the DAC settings to save to the DAC is actually changing the settings in the "engine" on the steelseries GG app. Unfortunately, the "sonar" settings don't save to the DAC because the sonar software is what does the sonar. When you change the EQ to your desired settings in the "engine" category on the app, then it should save to the DAC and shift those setting over to the Xbox. Hope this helps!

The sale was 50 dollars off, you got the headset for $300 + tax not $225. That credit and those gift cards are just as good as cash and could have been used for anything else he wanted. Anyways rant over, sorry if i sound crazy. I've been headset hunting and it just rubbed me the wrong way.
    P.S The turtle beach stealth pro are better if anyone is looking for something on PlayStation and not Xbox. The imaging/ directional audio is better than the Nova Pros meaning you can pinpoint foot steps and gun shot locations easier in FPS. It has onboard memory which saves all your presets/ settings to the headset itself meaning all the features you get on PC will also work on PlayStation. It also has simultaneous Bluetooth and wireless receiver audio. it also has swappable batteries. and it retails for like 20 dollars less.

    tbh I have the nova 7's, I've never had an issue with the audio quality and the battery lasts longer than the nova 7 pro plus it has fast charge for when you really need battery life but can't afford to fully charge it. I've only had to charge it mid game once due to not charging it the night before, and the fast charge (fifteen minutes for roughly 6 hours of battery life) is a game changer, for the price I'd recommend nova 7 over the nova pro.
    that said, with all the info from your review.. it would be seem if you have the extra cash and truly need the audio quality upgrade then the nova pro would be your option. I'm a bit of an audiophile, so I have been considering the upgrade for that alone but for the average gamer it really depends on what they need from a headset!
