I knew this would be a good trade for Knicks but I thought the bench would get significantly worse. Turns out, it didn’t. OG’s impact is so massive, he is so perfect for this team
Grimes and McBride been playing well, more comfortable in their stable role now.

Obi was a bad fit.
IQ was very good, and as a fan, I miss him. But the reality is that there was a logjam at guard, and getting rid of him has allowed Grimes and especially McBride to step up into bigger roles in the second unit, especially with DDV taking Grimes spot in the starting lineup.
It’s crazy how all the role players fell into their roles seamlessly by removing two guys. Everyone is moving and shooting. Even when it don’t go in they still shooting.
The beauty of the trade is this unlocked grimes and deuce. Dante has played out of his mind also. The biggest place we feel this trade as knick fans is his role in the second unit. Taking minutes from Brunson. It’s a win win trade. But rj is who he is, IQ was the big find for Toronto. OG is perfect for this team. Perfect.
OG is indeed all that, but speaking as a Raptors fan, we appreciate that you gave up a LOT to get him. We got two 20 ppg starters out of the deal, who we desperately needed. Depth was a really problem on this team even last year, before we lost Fred VanVleet as a free agent for nothing. The trade worked for the Knicks not just because of OGs defensive prowess, but because you had the the depth (Grimes and McBride) to allow you to give up two really good young players.
No player "is who he is". RJ's 23 years old, and he's clearly now prospering in a pass-oriented system where he can play the 2 and bully his check all the way to the net.
Raps fan here, im happy to see OG succeeding and showing everyone what he's been doing for years. It's the first time in a long time that I've seen a trade work out for both teams. I'm excited for the Knicks and rotting for you guys to make a deep playoff run this year. Get it.

The Two playoff appearances werent really his fault. The first one only he and D Rose were the best offensive players on that roster and they got pummeled. The second one he came back maybe seven games before the end of the season from a pretty bad ankle sprain. It showed in the playoffs, he was still getting his legs underneath him and playing through pain. Those were both tough series to watch.@@TheKnicksRealist

As a guy who’s been a knicks fan all my life, which was mostly us being trash. Ju has been the consistent leader and spark for our team, I appreciate Brunson but w out Randle it wouldn’t even feel the same, him and Mitch are the longest tenure knicks so watching them grow has been inspiring and chip without one of them feels like cheating

Having OG is like having a 2014 version of kawhi on your team. Efficient off the ball player and can defend the best player of the opposing team. Great pickup.
OG is exactly what the Knicks have been missing. A 3 and D wing who can knock down shots and hustle defensively. IQ was a spark off the bench but with him and Barrett, the Knicks weren’t going to get anywhere. They had to do something and I think OG is exactly what the Knicks needed.
I am not even a Knicks fan, but I just want to have them suceed.
Julius is A KNICK through and through. Honestly.

I would feel 💩 as a fan if he built us up just to trade him for "THE GUY". That would be MAD LAME.
We've been trash since the Melo years (which was a small era). We were trash WAY before the Melo era.
He deserves to ride this Knicks ship until the end.

Everybody is talking about RJ and Quickley being unlocked… that may be true..but look at how many players have been unlocked on the Knicks. Grimes, Deuce, Dante, and I-Hart have been playing like they’ve been given a secret serum.
Them being unlocked is not a slight at the knicks however it just makes it inherently more obvious that Thibbs didn’t know how to use Barrett and Quickley.

Randle just had 18 straight games w 20+. His attitude, injury and the team around him imo is what held him back in the playoffs, bet. Bout to change this year
OG Anunoby on the Knicks has been working out absolutely. at first i was pretty skeptical about it because giving up Immanuel Quickley was really big and he was a great spark off the bench for us and i'll miss him for that, but when you look at the bigger picture, IQ was never getting a massive contract and Randle was holding back RJ Barrett from floursing, and he looks like a different player on the Raptors now that he's back home

@@jj47k. and how is that a bad thing. OG made it clear he was staying and was even planning on potentially taking a pay cut as well. Barrett had no future in NY and quickly already refused an extension earlier.
Randle has done so much for the city of New York and has played back to his all nba self this year. He played on a hurt ankle in the playoffs last year which contributed to his poor performance. Knicks simply haven’t been shopping Randle, if anything he’s a cornerstone to the roster.
And what about the playoffs before that? Everything he said in this video about Randle is right. Perk said it too after he was a no show against Philly. A game the Knicks won. He crumbles against contenders. And his hot streaks fool y'all everytime.

Nothing a coach likes more than a smart basketball player. Knicks needed a guy who could defend a Top 10 wing player in the playoffs. Now they need a guy who can play like a top 10 player in the playoffs.

Leon Rose hasn't been perfect, but it's crazy how well he has been doing with the roster he started with. I think they will pull the trigger at the right time when the opportunity arrives.

finally, the knicks FO getting their well-deserved credits for the moves they made. from signing brunson to the best bargain contract for a star to getting arguably the best 3&d player in league in OG without giving up a ton of assets. and the scary thing is, they very well can still get a 3rd star sooner. also shoutout to their role players (mcbride, grimes, hart, and hartenstein) - best bench in the league imo

Well ,I am from Brazil and I follow the Knicks since 1984 ,there was a time when Knicks had great headcoaches like Pat Riley and Jeff Van Fundy,but a long time ago , Knicks became famous with unfortunate, mistakables trades ,and recently getting worse was hired Tom Thibodeau who decided to call a former player Taj Gibson,anyway ,it was a pitty losing IQ,and the only hope that maybe in a soon future Knicks will be able to find a good headcoach otherwise we are gonna suffer even more for a long time .
I think you might overhyping what some people call the “honeymoon” phase. These trades need a month or more to be assessed. Guys in a new area will start doing stuff you don’t ever see them do, like cutting towards the basket and moving off-ball. James Harden is the king of doing this. If they are still doing it after 10 games, I will be very impressed
Very good take. All things considered... It's a great trade for both teams. OG looks right in a Knicks uniform and Barrett and IQ look better on their new team. Both teams got better. So how can either side be upset? And although they are now opponents... I still have love for RJ and IQ. They were stand up guys and I wish them well. But man... I'm excited about OG!

Been following the Knicks since 2007 as a teen. Lots of ups and more downs. I feel as though no matter who they have playing for the Knicks, the garden will always be filled since it’s nyc. And because of that, management was always ok with just having an ok squad. But last three seasons seems like the picks are actually being thought off.

I honestly think if they get hot, they’re capable of a finals run as they’re built right now. However to be a truly formidable contender, imo, they’ll need to pick up one more star level shot creator. If they pick up a backup ball handler/scorer and another solid big for now they’ll be dangerous in the playoffs this year. If they flip whatever pieces they pick up to help them this year for a star in the near future, they’ll be a true, undeniable contender.
To be fair to Randle, he was very obviously injured in the playoffs last season and started off slow after not playing basketball all summer. I think he is becoming the best version of himself this season. They still need to add another star though.

I thought this was a great breakdown of the improvements OG brings to the Knicks and the Knicks' roster construction. But it faltered with the last section critical of Julius Randle that was longer on hot takes than substance.
Randle has a sample size of exactly 2 playoff runs to judge from: In 2020, Randle hard carried a Knicks team where he and an aging Derrick Rose were the only guys who could get their own shot. That team started *Elfrid Payton* at PG. And last postseason, Randle was hobbled, playing on an ankle injury that he got surgery on right after the Knicks were eliminated. It's surprising your efforts unearthed video footage of Leon Rose giving a rare interview, but you didn't present the context behind Randle's struggles in two postseasons which a regular guy like me can find with a few BBRef searches.
It's fun to tear into a player that frustrates you! I too enjoy critical analysis and being a hater. However, to paint Randle as a proven playoff choker belongs on First Take instead of video analysis at this level. It doesn't show the same attention to detail the rest of the video did.

I believe we have a great chance against philly in a 7 game series if we match up with them in the 2nd round. Embiid n maxey gonna do their thing, but outside of oubre i question their depth
I would say to be fair in last year's playoffs, Randle was playing injured the whole time especially in that series against the Heat.

The Knicks currently are one KD or Devin Booker away from winning it all. However, they have just as good of a chance as any team in the EC with a little bit of luck. Every championship team needs a little bit of lucky here and there. By the end of the season they will be even formidable. Let’s go Knicks 🙏🏿💪👏🏿❤️🔥

Because everything has to have a winner and a loser, people can't admit this was a win for both teams. The Knicks get the 3 and D to tie the team together, and the Raptors get young talent to build around Scottie Barnes.

We need another shot creator/ball handler thay can give Brunson a rest unless McBride shows us he can get 10+pts a night. At this point, I don't even know who would be good to trade for. Thank god Mr. Inconsistency is gone to the Raptors. He can shoot all he wants in a sub .500 team while OG will help in the playoffs.
Knicks are expecting to improve overall in the playoffs by role players stepping up. I doubt a big star trade happens this season. More likely that the Knicks focus on building up McBride and Grimes' confidence to kill 2nd units and use defense to grind offenses to a halt.
