She's really in my top-5 of all Star Wars-characters since 2016. And from that, it's all been pretty a huge ride ever since. I hope she gets her sort of-redemption some day and will live a peaceful life from then on.
Fun fact: I once took a picture with a Doctor Aphra cosplayer in a Star Wars event in a bookstore. The cosplayer felt happy because i was the first person who recognized the character.
IMHO, one the best arc story is with Luke . At the end droids explained her that she hate him because he’s her opposite : even if his life was tough life he has never lost his value compass .
This is the first time I’ve watched this channel, but this guy’s insight is incredible, I love it! I’ve seen enough, I am liking and subscribing, keep up the great work! Oh yeah, I love Dr. Apha!
Hey there. I’m a big SW fan but haven’t read many of the comics. I play a Star Wars card game and Aphra is coming to the game, so I wanted to catch up on her without having to read years of comics, this video hit the spot! Thank you!
Late to this party, but I adore this character. As inspired by Indiana Jones as she is, I have always felt that she's closer to Han Solo as a rogue archaeologist. She's a mercenary and a smuggler. And occasionally has a guilt twinge. She's so interesting, man. Complex and despite all of the horrible things she does, we like her. Bravo. Freakin' bravo.
I like that sexuality is not a focus in Star Wars. Yes, we can infer about relationships and sexual orientations from the characters interactions and that is enough for me. I hope we keep sex and gender controversies out of those creations. I see the gender/sex theme being added to Comics, Cartoons and videogames in ways that are totally unnecessary. To me these should be safe spaces.
If we're being honest. The only people who really cause problems/controversies about gender/sexuality in comics are people who complain that LGBTQ+ identities are given the same coverage as straight characters and not pushed to the side. Cuz no one whines when superman kisses, flirts , or otherwise shows love to Lois lane, but his son having a boyfriend? All hell broke loose. Batman having a child with Talia Al Ghul. Then ages later having a comic run about potentially marrying Catwoman? Perfectly fine. But Tim Drake being bi or whatever? "oh no!" Ofc that's not an excuse for bad writing. But people act as if gender/sexuality inclusion is automatically bad ,"forced", or "unnecessary". Meanwhile they were never any complaints with straight characters.
@@ArtsyFoxo I actually agree with your point. I do not like the sexualization of Comics and video-games when it is graphic. Having things implied/inferred from how the story is told is totally fine with me for straight or LGBTQ+ characters. I just do not think they should/need to be shown half-naked in bed or kissing, etc. My view may well be too conservative for the times we live in but to me we have been crossing too many boundaries and that is not working well in society. Again, my thoughts/views apply to ALL sexual orientations. Cheers.
@@corujariousa I think I understand what you mean to an extent. But I will say that just as violence and death is rampant in comics. Sex (whether graphic/blatant or not) is valid and shouldn't be ignored. It is a part of life like anything else, and feeling that it is something that shouldn't be explored openly is harmful to the art form as a whole. Comics are a form of artistic expression. Though , overall it's perfectly fine to prefer comics that do not have blatant sexual elements since everyone has their own tastes!
@@ArtsyFoxo Your points make sense to me. Very realistic. The generalization of the sexualization (it's across many popular comics and video games) is what I do not feel comfortable with because of the audience they have (younger audience). I see kids are getting exposed to too much violence and sexualization too early and before they have their personalities better formed. That is not healthy (note: I've seen parents taking a 5 year old kid to watch Expendables and little kids checking out a Titans Comic making quiet comments about Nightwing in bed with his girlfriend, the Legend of Korra last episode did not need to end how it did as it did not fit the series at all). Once we reach 14, things change and we are in this world for whatever comes to us but we have a minimum advanced preparation to deal with things better (some people need much more time of course 🙂). My concern is with young kids. That's all. Nice to have this polite exchange w/ you. Thanks!
@ArtsyFoxo I think the bigger issue was aging up John and shipping him up with some rando and not Damian whom he had a more organic bond with. Plus his boyfriend being an under developed nothing burger didn't help.
Nah, never going tot happen, for all the reasons you stated above. The Star Wars movies and series, hate their villainous characters (because of what they're suppose to represent), where wouldn't be any left if good jedi didn't turn bad. But she sounds more like Han Solo. Which means the days she appears in the series is the day her "emotional arc" concludes with her on one side or the other. Which might defeat the purpose.
Ok so.....her and her mother happen to be Sociopaths? Ok figures Star Wars will invest in Space Anti Psycotic medicine and Empire/ New Republic Pharmacies
We need a Vader/Aphra show, there is no better duo than those two together.
I read a few issues of her comic and at first I didn't like her, but she grew on me. She is an Indiana Jones gone bad, whatever it take to stay alive
I hope that they do Dr Aphra live action, heck, any animation series.

Love me some Dr Aphra. Always living her best life. Thanks Ernie.
She is one of my top three fav star wars characters, i really hope she shows ups in some production from tv sometime.

I hope to see her in live action 🎬 🙏 ❤❤
She's not evil, just apathetic & self interested.
toxic*
That's.. Evil?
So basically… Evil.

As an avid enjoyer of aphra and her being one of not my favorite non Force user. I agree with everything in this video
I was never really a Star Wars comic fan, I love the movies and the shows but I’m completely sold on doctor aphra
This is the first time I’ve watched this channel, but this guy’s insight is incredible, I love it! I’ve seen enough, I am liking and subscribing, keep up the great work! Oh yeah, I love Dr. Apha!
doctor aphra is like watching succession. theyre awful people but u cant help but root for them
Succession mixed with Indiana Jones and Uncharted.

I just learned a lot about someone I didn’t know was around!! Gotta get to reading more about her!!
Thanks!
Noticed they made Luke in the panel look more like Hayden? 🤣 They just knew pre-Vader Anakin was the biggest hunk of the Skywalker family. 🤣
Awesome character! I'm happy to say that I gave Her first appearance!!

couldn't decide whether to read this or not. thanks for the recommendation
She is very different from most Star Wars protagonists to me at least
I love Doctor Aphra
She's Badass
Chloe Bennett as live action Dr. Aphra in the Mandoverse.

Dr Aphra badass
And make it look easy!
Let's just hope she appears in The Mandalorian Season 4, when the gap from The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi is finally full.

She is canon and ready to be adapted, but Disney would rather give us the acolyte.
why you not covering ghost light the new cosmic ninja
For all those who said there’s nothing good in Disney canon how can you explain Dr. Aphra, huh?
Ok so.....her and her mother happen to be Sociopaths? Ok figures Star Wars will invest in Space Anti Psycotic medicine and Empire/ New Republic Pharmacies
All I can say is fasnating
More toxic than Annie & Palps?
Challenge accepted lol
👍
Why even talk about race? What are you trying to prove?
Because hes a schill Disney mouthpiece and thats the talking points they gave this muppet to say.
Aphra should have been blacked
Where can i read more Dr. Aphra comics I like her alot
