I am loving your videos. I spent most of my youth on the Oregon Coast. We live in Washington state and continue to head to the Oregon coast once a year. Thank you for the memories
Love your videos, man! Because they're so specific to our Oregon coast! Just got into bottom fishing off of the jetties. Want to learn how to fish for surf perch next! Is Newport your favorite for surf perch? I've killed the rockfish there before!
yes, they are year round. I like newport because it's closest to home. any beach along the oregon coast has them. look for calm days, calm wind and calm surf. because this time of year because the surf is rough and dangerous. good luck.
I'm loving your videos man, inspiring, now i wanna try surf fishing!!! I heard u need to be able to know how to read the waves for good spot, is that true? Can u give me few advice to find the right spot pls
nice vid bro! may I ask what reel and rod size your'e using and also any tips for me? just started today on surf fishing at newport beach california I didn't catch anything and I was using mussel and shrimp bait.. What are you using? any info would be greatly appreciated thank you!
10' SS spinning rod by cabela's, heavy action. 5000 stradic FK, 40# braid, 20# mono leader and a #2 baitholder hook. for bait, always use 2" gulp sandworms in camo. good luck
never surf perch fished before but I've been watching your videos and went over to Florence and used ur exact setup, we only had 8'6" poles but we killed em. had 3 limits in 4 hours. thanks for sharing your techniques and advice. fished on 7/24/16.
Now i want to know did you at the time set those fish like that in hopes you would get to show us what sand fleas can do ? lol keep fish in bucket or on ice in chest if possible , I know sometimes you just cant carry everything.
Hello I'm a new subscriber .. I really do enjoying watching your videos.. I just moved to Washington State and was wondering what are the good spots and when is the best time to catch fish
That sand flea attack was sooo disgustingly awful!!! I hope I don't dream about it - LOL. But seriously, how long did it take for all of those to get into the fish while it was sitting there attached to your stringer? I'm assuming it had none in it when you caught it. Will definitely keep my caught fish out of the surf water.
I'm wondering if the smaller fish are a bit closer to shore? As always they are in competition with the bigger fish. And they would rush in sooner. Perhaps larger fish prefer somewhat deeper water for protection. But I would suspect no more than 3 or 4ft as thier species so directs. Just a thought. I'm a retired anthropology professor. I can tell you are an educator my friend. I'll be in Newport late May to mid June.
Haha, thanks. Yea, the small ones do like to hang out more in shallower waters. Many times I get the rapid tap that is common among the small ones as they try to nibble at the bait. Usually, once I know the little ones are around, the bigger ones are in the vicinity - in a little deeper water.
Hi pk I enjoy watching your videos and it's pretty cool to watch a fellow Khmer making UA-cam videos on fishing and crabbing. How many pound test line do you have set up here? And where exactly is this location in Newport? I'm planning to visit Oregon and like to give this place a try! Thanks for sharing! As always, tight lines.
hi pK.. what is the brand of your 10 footer rod. i got a problem ordering from amazon and ebay, since they are not shipping it to saudi arabia. theres a lot of surf fishers. thanks! tight lines!
Richmond Daque - the rod appears to be a Cabela’s Tourney Trail. Perhaps IM8. Available from Cabela’s or Bass Pro Shop. Ikuma also makes a great 10’ surf rod, but a little more expensive than the Cabela’s brand.
Was just in Newport Oregon at Yaquina bay rock fishing and together with 4 of us we caught 16 rockfish and it was very nice out that day but the rest of the week was super foggy but still fun
All beaches in Oregon are public and you can fish from them. Just make sure they are not marine protected areas. Read the regs in the saltwater section for what, and where they are located.
I know it's an older video , but god dang , I had no idea the sand crab would attack your cacth that bad in that short amount of time. Leaving my catch on my him in a cacth bag or in the cooler.
hey I've probably asked you this before but what size ring are you using meeting the pole when the real in the line oh and it's a zoom Finesse Worm what pattern
He ties allot of his own rigs, look up dropper loops knot, use a pen cap to twist it. Other than that only knot you really need to know for light tackle surf fishing is a surgeons loop.
buddy, where about is this? Haven't been to coast Oregon for couple of months now. If you are hosting the fishing competition again I would love to show up and say hello.
the tiny ones inside the perch belly? no way, too small... unless you can somehow find a way to put 20 or so of them on a hook. but the sand crabs/mole crabs, yes for sure. they make excellent bait. I don't use them because it's challenging keeping them on a hook during casting
Im a few miles north of that beach and get a lot biggerr fish....but dont fish it when the surf looks like what you got, though. but man, those sand crabs are eating you alive, jeez...
Time to use your bucket to keep the caught fish. Dud you get rid if that fish? I guess on e you cook it sand fleas will die. But I would throw it back. Crazy sand fleas hu??
so what if you were to lay down on that beach to sunbathe and then fell asleep? would you wake up screaming and clawing at your a$$hole? just a thought.
I am loving your videos. I spent most of my youth on the Oregon Coast. We live in Washington state and continue to head to the Oregon coast once a year. Thank you for the memories
wow, i have never seen that before with the sand fleas. that was gnarly
I’ve never seen that before with the sandcrabs onfesting dead fish! Cool!
so fun seeing a fellow fisherman love my beach.......very cool PK
Use the sand crabs for bait. The perch love them!
Love your videos, man! Because they're so specific to our Oregon coast! Just got into bottom fishing off of the jetties. Want to learn how to fish for surf perch next! Is Newport your favorite for surf perch? I've killed the rockfish there before!
Can you fish for surf perch year around? How do I know when it'll be good weather for surf fishing ahead of time for winter?
yes, they are year round. I like newport because it's closest to home. any beach along the oregon coast has them. look for calm days, calm wind and calm surf. because this time of year because the surf is rough and dangerous. good luck.
@@james3374 look up the lunar cycle as far as fishing goes too.
Here in Brazil we use those fleas as bait and they are really eficient.
I never thought to hold my finger on the line like that. Good tip, makes total sense. Thanks !
Thanks for the video. Great fishing. I need to get out there and hit that surf. I live about a ten minute walk from Nye Beach. I miss surf fishing.
Awesome fishing video minus the sand flea invasion that you clearly showed! Keep up the good videos!
The coast was so nice. I could stay there and fish all day long~~~
I know where I'm moving to when I retire :)
I’d be putting my fish in a bucket. Those sand fleas are something else.
Great as always!!!! KEEP REELING!!!!!

I'm loving your videos man, inspiring, now i wanna try surf fishing!!! I heard u need to be able to know how to read the waves for good spot, is that true? Can u give me few advice to find the right spot pls
Loving the videos. Keep them coming.
do you fish near a rip or hole or do you just look at a place you like and say I'm gonna try it . ??

The reel looked like a Stella. Is that hollow core braid?
i just found out that in indonesia those sand crabs are considered a delicacy. they fry 'em up and package them like potato chips.
river rat I was going to try this today but decided to do it next trip. Any suggestions on how to prepare them?

nice! not bad for a first time
ya it was awesome. thank you for all the help, your videos are great! wish I could upload a pic but can't find a way to do it
I believe you need a laptop to customize your profile pic.
Now i want to know did you at the time set those fish like that in hopes you would get to show us what sand fleas can do ? lol keep fish in bucket or on ice in chest if possible , I know sometimes you just cant carry everything.

I left it alone for maybe 15-20 minutes
I see you’re fishing with a Stradic FK instead of the C4+. Which one you like better?

+lnhoung it's always nice to meet other Khmer on UA-cam. That's 20# braid and 20# mono leader. It's at seal rock.
PK Yi
great Thanks! will be trying out some if your tips and tricks.

That infestation of sand fleas, never seen that before but never kept fish in the water like that either. Guess I won't be doing that!
Was just in Newport Oregon at Yaquina bay rock fishing and together with 4 of us we caught 16 rockfish and it was very nice out that day but the rest of the week was super foggy but still fun
Going to Oregon this week and plan to do some fishing along the shore. Is it legal to fish at all public beaches like Cannon Beach?
All beaches in Oregon are public and you can fish from them. Just make sure they are not marine protected areas. Read the regs in the saltwater section for what, and where they are located.
I know it's an older video , but god dang , I had no idea the sand crab would attack your cacth that bad in that short amount of time. Leaving my catch on my him in a cacth bag or in the cooler.
PK : are you going to do a video on how to clean and fillet these guys ?
Hi, yes. One of these days, I will try. I'm not that good at filleting so I'm a little hesitant. But stay tuned.
hey I've probably asked you this before but what size ring are you using meeting the pole when the real in the line oh and it's a zoom Finesse Worm what pattern
thanks for your tips
hello Pk do you cut your sand worms in half? And always nice vids
thank you. no. I use the 2" so it's the perfect size.
Were those fleas already In the fish when you caught it or they got in there when you tied them to the sand spike?
they got in while I tied the fish to the sand spike.
how far do you drive from home to get there.? nice video. thanks a lot.
1.5 hours
Have you used the long leaders that attach to the loops, the have the hook on them
He ties allot of his own rigs, look up dropper loops knot, use a pen cap to twist it.
Other than that only knot you really need to know for light tackle surf fishing is a surgeons loop.
Never seen sand fleas do that before. Wow
wow man, those lice .fleas were scarry as hell... i wouldnt want to be anywhere near that stuff
Crazy sand fleas attacking that pearch.
i guess just keep them in a bucket?
Hi my friend. I bought the Cabelas 9ft rod medium heavy / with Penn 3000. Can you suggest a braided lb line. Thank you.
For surf fishing on the Oregon coast, I use 20#
Yeah I'm terrible at the filleting process too. Need all the help I can get !
hi. I just want to know if this rod can handle big stripers and tarpon
We go south of Coos Bay for camping every year!
You talk about male vs female surf perch...how do you tell them apart?
Ren Reinke ua-cam.com/video/n0-6JRzNi8c/v-deo.html
buddy, where about is this? Haven't been to coast Oregon for couple of months now. If you are hosting the fishing competition again I would love to show up and say hello.
south of newport, any beach has them. having another tournament on 8/6.
Did those sandfleas get in AFTER you caught it!?! That is disgusting..like a horror movie!
Yes, after. I had my fish on a stringer that was laying on the sand.
PK Yi That is good to know. I had NO idea they would or could do that. We'll get Clam bags for sure!
those fleas were already in that fish or they got in after it got hooked ?
they were not in the fish to begin with. they got in when I placed my fish on the sand, and it was sloshing in the surf.
oh thats terrible. so many fleas got into it so fast, there must be so many of them there, kill it with a nuke...
Nice Video
thanks it looks like a cabelas rod
nice fishibng video
The Circle of Life.
WTF are those FLEAS ! ??? Ain’t got those here in Mauritius !
avalon2199 you've got them in Mauritius however you cannot find them everywhere though.
I meant to say what size rig are you using, pole reel exct.
10' salmon / steelhead rod, 5000 stradic, 40# braid, 20# mono leader, #2 hook, camo sandworms 2"
wow that's a preaty heavy set up. what else are you using for this reel for. I thought I was planning to go heavy with a 3000 reel and 15lb test.
What did you do with the flea infested fish you still eat them?
I tossed them away, I didn't realize it but the sand fleas have gotten inside the other perch as well. I'm gonna have nightmares for months
+PK Yi that reminded me of a movie I seen call "The Bay" crazy movie......😷😂😂😂😂
are those fish good eating? i am curious
They are super good.
So could you use sand fleas as bait?
the tiny ones inside the perch belly? no way, too small... unless you can somehow find a way to put 20 or so of them on a hook. but the sand crabs/mole crabs, yes for sure. they make excellent bait. I don't use them because it's challenging keeping them on a hook during casting
well in singapore it sucks when you go for surf fishing..Zero fish at all
its funny the all tackle world record for red tailed surf perch is only 1 lb 4 oz(0.57 kg)
im going oregon surf fishing on friday :D
what size hook do you use?
#2
Im a few miles north of that beach and get a lot biggerr fish....but dont fish it when the surf looks like what you got, though. but man, those sand crabs are eating you alive, jeez...
how do you bleed out your fish?
cut behind the gills
What bait you use
Gulp sandworms, 2"
what about the other fish ?
the one that was high slightly above the water was eaten less.
newport beach in california?
newport, Oregon.
Time to use your bucket to keep the caught fish. Dud you get rid if that fish? I guess on e you cook it sand fleas will die. But I would throw it back. Crazy sand fleas hu??
don't tell me you still took home the fish with all the sand fleas. yuk, I would had left it
I ended up tossing them, the sand fleas have gotten inside the others too. I think I lost my appetite for perch for a long time to come
@@oregonlife that's rough. The snails here will do that.
are you kidding me they ate that just in the time you were fishing for another fish ? that is so gross , i have never seen that before .
I carry my life security this rod and reel
You showed us mole crabs but called them sand fleas. The creatures feasting on your fish were sand fleas.
Those are sea lice sometimes you see them on salmon/steelhead when they come out of the ocean it means they are fresh out of the ocean
I couldn't keep watching after the sand fleas got in your fish, but I hope to god that you threw them all back... Ewe
so what if you were to lay down on that beach to sunbathe and then fell asleep? would you wake up screaming and clawing at your a$$hole? just a thought.
river rat these are crabs that are right where the water meets the beach sand.
