Puerto Rico is a Caribbean island with a long, complex history. It's been a US controlled territory for the last 150 years and its residents are American citizens, and before that it was under Spanish colonial rule for 400 years. But Puerto Rico has its own rich culture and identity which reflect the different people and cultural influences that form part of the island's history. In this episode I try the local food, listen to Puerto Rico's native musical genres, visit its beautiful beaches the El Yunque tropical rainforest, and make friends with the locals, in order to understand the culture better.

Puerto Rico is an interesting place! It’s been a US controlled territory for the past 150 years, yet it has such a distinct culture and history, is it really America? What do you think?

You have exciting lips and cheeks, hypnotizing beauty 😅❤😇
Thank you for all your content, I was fortunate to meet a PR woman many years ago. She came to NY for a change, lucky me , we lived together for numerous years ,but sadly we went our separate ways, ive never meet a person more proud of her heritage then she was, and what I've learned was , pretty much all PR feel that way, but if it wasn't for meeting her I would of never found such a beautiful place, I spend most of my winter in Rincon, only because she was a 🏄♀️, I believe I could live there full time but haven't pulled the trigger yet, no matter were I go in the world I always end up back on Long Island NY, idk very strange magnetic pull coming from NY, lol, anyway, love your life, your effortless way of making me love every destination you visit, I'm pretty sure I've told myself I will be definitely going to whatever destination you've filmed , HaHa, Great job bringing differnt location around the world into my bucket list.Enjoy, Be safe!
When are you coming to Habana Cuba ?
We are waiting for you specially me , don't be late please ❤
It is America because America is a continent and not just a country.
Well Puerto Rico and other Caribbean islands are part of North America. And a commonwealth of the US for over 100 years. Great melting pot of cultures influenced by native Taino, Europe and Africa.
Bomba and Plena would not be Bomba or Plena without African, Taino, and Spanish Influence. We are all three in one. We represent all equally. WE ARE BORRICUA ❤
💯💯💯
Lord Jesus let me visit this Island again before I die. I love PR.
Praying you do! We just got back from Patillas and it's a glorious place to spend time there with family and friends. I'm thankful to return to see family after 50 years.
Puerto Ricans are so friendly and will totally invite you to their home, their party. I did a semester in college there, and it will always have a special place im my heart. And the food! 😋
So true! Maybe the friendliest people I’ve met on my travels to date !
🇵🇷
Absolutely the most warm hearted people. Christmas is also a fun time to go.
I'm Mediterranean myself and we also spend a lot of time outside at the beach enjoying our food, having friends and family around - just celebrating life like the people do here in this video...And then some survey tries to convince me that the happiest people and best life is lived in Norway/Finland, Sweden, or somewhere similar..All I can say is, that it is all relative, in my opinion, this is a life well-lived 🌻
I also heard that in places like Norway, Greenland and Finland they have high suicide rates so that is kind of contradictory too. The islands always seem fun ❤
It most definitely is a life well lived!
Bring me back to old school salsa, El Gran Combo, Fania All Stars, Colon, LaVoe.
I've spent 8 months working in Puerto Rico, after Hurricane Maria. I knew at that time, I would live there one day. Hopefully, this year is my year. Thank you for the video to show the beauty and warm feeling of Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 I wish you had spent more time showing parts like Orocovis, Barranquilla, Cabo Rojo, and Patillas. Nevertheless, awesome video. Thank you. I am now a subscriber👍🏾💯
By the way, I seriously taken by your beauty. Absolutely stunning ❤
Next time will hit up more spots for sure, thank you 🙏
Mi casa es tu casa. Welcome
We just returned from Patillas. It was a dream come true to see family again and meet ones we'd never met. The last time we visited was 50 years ago. Spectacular people, delicious fresh seafood and incredible beauty.
I have visited a few times. It's beautiful as are the people. Not quite the same as within the US mainland because PR maintains the beauty and history of their culture. I hope it can remain untainted.. enough damage was done 150years ago.
As a Puerto Rican, I love the way you covered the way of life in the island. So beautifully captured.
I love my country. 🇵🇷🇵🇷❤️🙏👍✌️
The guy in the yellow house bar,is a man of few words but many expressions, his answers to your group questions are visually eloquent 😊
One of my favorite places on earth.
I loved you presentation on Puerto Rico ….🇵🇷 I enjoyed that ….Alex🇬🇷
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you 🙏
Every time I see one of Malini's videos, I get homesick for a place that I have never visited! Lovely travel vlog, Malini!
Thank you 😀
Yes, Puerto Rico is America. In fact, if you are born in Puerto Rico you get automatic American citizenchip. However, Puerto Rico has done a great job keeping its Hispanic heritage and language. I'm Dominican, but I do love my PR people.
PUERTO RICO ESTÁ CABROOOOON!!!! 🎉❤ Thank you for inviting me to be part of this little documentary!! It was so fun ❤
Thank you! I had such a fun time!
As a Brit living in Florida it's refreshing to come across your page, I'm headed to PR for the second time it's been 8 years and taking my girlfriend who's never been. super excited cheers for the ideas. and keep up the great work. James from Swindon.
Have fun! Thank you
Love Puerto Rico!!!!!!
Your still living the adventure, still gorgeous, still making great videos never stop!!!
Thank you! Will do!
Greetings from New York Malini, I love your beautiful accent and thank you so much for your well done video of Puerto Rico 🇵🇷

Thank you for sharing. A European view of BORINKEN and Boricuas. Thank you
You’re welcome !
Fabulous destination as usual, great vibe of the local scene in Puerto Rico.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I really love the latin culture with its music, dancing, cuisine and warm hospitality...I can see the Spanish and Portuguese influences in Puerto Rico with the architecture and all the other elements that make up the Interesting blend of the history and culture..I must visit one day Malini, great video as always ❤
One of the most fun cultures for sure! Thank you for watching ❤
Cuisine isn’t the best
@@AJ-lj6qgIt’s way better than American cuisine.
I loved it!
Portuguese? Born and raised in Puerto Rico, the closest Lusitanian influence to which I ever came is my wife; she's Brazilian. Never heard of that in Puerto Rico.
Malina, I’m Italian and have watched many of ur videos especially the Italian ones. You are a super talented story teller! Joe
Thank you so much!!
Puerto rico is my island. Utudo puerto rico.🇵🇷✌️👍🙏❤️🇵🇷
PR is such a wonderful place, good vibes and great weather. Even when it rained on the beach, the music just got louder and louder to scare away the clouds.
As a Puerto Rican i can tell u PR is a crime infested hell hole!!!
I believe that 😂 they love their music!
Nice video God bless Puerto Rico spañish heritage.
Thanks for watching!
Abrazo! 🤗
THANK YOU Square space 🤩. Long live Puerto Rico 🇵🇷
Thanks for this uplifting and vibrant watch 🤗❤️
Glad you enjoyed it!
Went to Puerto Rico 2017 for an infosec conference. Afterwards Despacito and storms Irma and Maria occurred. Cool place with recent strife that is hopefully better.
Thanks for sharing your work, Malini Angelica. Your filming always has these sweet moments, like when you asked the PR family that live in the continental US how they identify, and she sighs then feels so comfortable giving you a very real answer filled with pride and ambivalence with biculturalism, geopolitics, identity and belonging. Hope you all come to Panamá.
Thank you for watching and supporting the channel, we will definitely visit Panama soon ❤
Thank you for covering the island! You're amazing as always!
My pleasure!
Making good vedios to know the different places all over the world
I really love this ❤
Thank you 🙏
Thank you for giving such an accurate description of our culture and political situation.
You’re welcome, glad you enjoyed it 🩷🩷
Based on my conversations with Puerto Ricans from the island and those who live in NY with ties to PR, most seem to like it the way it currently is, a commonwealth.
It's a bit of a controversial topic on our subreddit as some want to be state, others independent country. So I can see it
As a Puerto Rican since birth i approve yor video. Good not biased to tourism, and went to different parts of the island. Only correction is that we are a colony. And to some comments ive seen. We receive assistance from the US. We are cracking down on corruption, and you only need a driver's license to get here.
Puerto Rico looks so beautiful. Awesome people
They are!!
I saw your video from Seville, and I loved it. Your accent in both languages is beautiful. And FYI, your suntan looks amazing!
This a wonderful vid.She really got itouch with local people and here videos points to her work.Very nice.

♡♡♡
So nice to hear that, thank you 🙏
As a Black American: *Puerto Ricans are amongst our best people as far as culture* Puerto Ricans have lead the way in the U.S FOR ALL LATINOS. The P.R Young Lords Civil rights group and their contribution to the creation of Hop Hop culture. They have added to the FLAVOR of America!
Thanks for recognizing this! 👍🏽🇵🇷
We are one brother✊🏽✊🏿
@@diegodelavega1883 You're welcome 👍🏾
Since when do blacks as a priviledged group with legal status get to dictate who leads in the latino community?
Holy f stay in yo lane, youre not oart of this AT ALL
Im from The Bronx my ex mother in-law was apart of the Bronx Chapter Young Lords 🇵🇷
Thank you for showing us such a wonderful video! The great scenery Puerto Rico. I feel so happy watching this place! I look forward to your next work! Have a nice day, my friend! 👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
And I will say something shocking. Puerto Ricans, PER CAPITA, are the most accomplished people on the planet, perhaps with the exceptions of the Jews. That title would have gone to the Cubans, had it not been for the Revolution . . . If you would consider 4 million on the island alone, and certainly with the 4 million on the US mainland, they are about the best country for boxing champions (usually ranked 3 or 4th for boxing), for baseball stars and teams, for basketball, for international beauty pageants, for music, for dance, for all dimensions of art from painting to a fair amount of literature, for acting . . . and for military, with more medals than any ethnic group I believe . . . goodness. If we'd only focus on more analytic areas like physics . . . and on business creation . . . .
Been watching your videos for a while, I love the fact seeing my country being represented on your channel!
Great, so glad you enjoyed the video!!
I religiously check my YT notifs for your videos! so glad I stumbled upon your channel a year ago, love the camera work and story telling :)

Thank you so much 🤗
Watching Malini's videos gives me nostalgic vibes and these are places I have never visited. I always tell myself damn that is where I wanna be, so peaceful and full of life. I hope one time she will travel to Africa ❤.
Now on this days Puerto Rico is beautiful. I have to congratulate the Mayor of Old San Juan, Mr. Miguel Romero he is doing an excellent job for San Juan. Congratulations Mr. Romero for your excellent job as a an Old San Juan, Mayor. Best of the best.
You sound as if you know nothing of Puerto Rico.
The Mayor of Old San Juan is the Mayor of ALL of San Juan. Old San Juan is the oldest part of it. It was a walled town less than 150 years ago; remnants still exist. You can walk all of Old San Juan easily. I've done it several times; you cannot walk ALL of the City of San Juan.
Really good video! My favourite place in Puerto Rico is Vieques though
Another excellent episode, Malini 🌹
Thank you ❤
Love your videos
Informative and very interesting
Glad you think so!
This is The Second Video I seen of yours, & 👍 to both. The DR was the Other one. Good job.

We love to go home to Patillas in the south side of the island. It's surely paradise when you can visit family there and see it from their perspective. The kind people, delicious food, beach, valley and mountains. Not much more is needed. :) Thanks for sharing Malina.

I think the person who was talking about plena from minute 6:18 is mixing and confusing plena with bomba which is another local music genre
Hi Malini! Love your videos !

You are absolutely stunning and so charismatic, I’m curious to learn more about your background, your cultural upbringing, and what inspired you to travel and dedicate your time to video blogging ❤.
Thank you so much!!
Hi, i am actually from Poland but I have been to the island like 20 times and I lived, partied and shared time with you. I know all the spots you shows in a good way. You may have omitted the lovely south coast and skipped mentioning SALSA..!!! Puerto Rico has the nicest people on earth, welcoming, warm, and fun and I hope its alliance with the US brings them more benefits to you than it does damage.Stick to your own language and culture. Puerto Rico is so much more than some bland united state. You are a great nation that deserves to prosper like any other country. I wish you this from my heart. I would go back there in a second . I love PR.
Very nice presentation 👌 keep continue your positive momentum 👍
Stay safe and healthy 👌
A message from Toronto!

@@Malini.Angelica gracias a Ti ❤️ muestras los lugares te conectas con las personas 👥 de esos lugares y les hablas en su idioma . Es muy bonito de ver, son entretenidos y tú eres lo más precioso de esos paisajes
You did an amazing job covering the island showcasing our heritage, foods and culture. Thank you! I'm glad I discovered your channel and I love watching your content. By the way you ate that morcilla (blood sausage) like a champ, LOL. I know a lot of people that cringe at it. I personally love it. Keep up the great videos!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed the video!!
Great review of our modern music and culture, but to go back to the 1800s you must visit Ponce, Mayaguez, Yauco, Coamo and Guayama with its French and Corsican influences
My Beautiful tropical island 🏝 🌴 thanks for showing and sharing the beauty of Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 it brings more tourist to the beautiful island que viva Puerto Rico my Caribbean island God bless
Our pleasure!
Thanks for this insight into a country I visited all to brief during my navy days. I’m not sure if they still do it, but before deployment we would always go to PR. Being from Brooklyn I’ve been around them, but never knew anything about them. Now I know that having a mix of indigenous sets them apart. Some of my best friends and wonderful girlfriends were Puerto Ricans. Maybe I’ll be blessed enough to visit again one day.
Great content
Thank you!
Your videos are top class and you deserve millions of subscribers.
Wow, thank you!
