    If you have the option to pick between the better-timed class and the better teacher PICK THE BETTER TEACHER, you'll be more engaged, happier to do the work and less likely to skip i.e. learn more. And don't be scared to ask around if the teacher is any good

      Exactly. Choose the professor over when and where the class meets, maybe over what the course topic is if you need to fulfill an elective.

    another tip I have is to register for the maximum amount of classes you can (usually 18 credits) even if you only plan to take 15. that way if you end up hating a class or professor early on you can drop it and you won't need to worry about getting into another class 2 weeks into the year

    As a second-semester freshman at a fairly large school I'd also suggest checking to see if your school has a Reddit page. Usually there is one that is student-run and super helpful. Just another resource to consider!

    Another piece of advice that I have is to have a backup plan or a backup schedule that you come up with in case a class that you wanted is full. AND if it is full but you really want it, keep checking up on the class to see if open seats become available because throughout the period of registration, people are adding and dropping classes all the time!

    I wish I would have watched this video before I chose my classes for the fall. But I'm pretty satisfied with my schedule. I have one 9:30 class every other Monday. Other than that all my classes are no earlier than 11. I knew that 8am classes my first semester would not work out for me. Maybe I'll try it the second semester. The academic advisers were so helpful and they stopped me from picking unnecessary courses and explained everything clearly.

      I took classes 9:30 am to 3:45 pm so I only had classes Mondays and Wednesdays. I did fine without eating, but chips became my crutch every day lol. I just ate a bag or two on my way to my next class and I was fine. Your body adjusts really fast. Then again, I've never been like food/health obsessed and I'm not a breakfast eater so :p

    I found that taking 8ams was really hard but I did find that taking a 9am helped a lot! So if you’re worried about 8ams but still want to start your day early, take a 9am or 10am and you’ll still end up having a lot of time at the end of the day to be productive while still being able to sleep in some!

  • @maddieroxx4eva

    I'm a joint major and I find that one of the most helpful things to do in order to manage all of your requirements is to make a tentative plan for your entire college career that lists the requirements for your major(s) and then the classes you have taken and plan to take in future years in order to ensure you're actually meeting the requirements as you graduate. I also agree about professors. I do better in classes with tough professors because when you know there's no chance of an extension or late penalty on an assignment, you get it done in time.

    Wow, the American system is so different to that in the UK - we don't get to pick many modules (and those we do we only have a limited list of options) and the exams are more centrally set, so your grade doesn't depend on how nice a particular lecturer is. Your system seems a lot more flexible (but complicated!)

    Great tips!! Ratemyprofessor has ALWAYS been helpful for me. I swear by it. I love morning classes! I take 9:30 classes every semester and I've always loved them. The academic advisor tip is really good as well! I really wish I had upperclassmen friends, but I'm an education student and most people at my school are in engineering or the education people are in their 30s with families lol. Anyway, great tips!
    ALSO: how many credit hours do you recommend? I've been taking 15 and they're so hard to keep up with.

      I'm a sophomore Social Work major and 15 credits at my college is five courses. I've found anything beyond five classes is hard to do because it may not seem like a normal amount of work during the semester but you'll be killing yourself around finals week. But you also have to make sure you have enough credits to graduate! At my school i need a total off 122.

    Y'all BE CAREFUL about the "holding classes for other people" strategy. At my college, this is against the rules and if you're found to have done it, the honor council will review your case and pass punishment. Check the rules and ask around before you do that. I know it sounds odd that they'd suspend you or something for trying to take a class, but that's just how it works.

  • @emmapanzica
    @emmapanzica 2 місяці тому

    One tip I would give is if you find you have late registration and all the good professors are taken. Take the class with the not so great professor as it's better to take the class with a not so great professor to get it out of the way then to wait and be behind in credits. Especially if you are in a major that requires you to take classes before others or has clinical's. For example, I am in education which has clinical periods and in order to do clinical's you have to take specific classes first in order to get into your clinical classes. Also those professors you can still do well in the class even if they are not as good at teaching the subjects.

      I think your choice is entirely dependant on what your post-grad plans are. For me personally I was stuck between two schools because one had a really good program that gave me the option to not have to do post-grad studies, but the other was all about the student life. I'm planning on doing law school post-grad so I picked the school I was confident I would be happy at, rather than a school I was unsure about being happy at for the sake of the program. If you're unsure of your post-grad plans, I would stick with the program so if you know at least you'll come out after four years with a good degree rarer than an okay degree and some good party stories;)

    Don't kid yourself if you are not a morning person and sign up for afternoon classes already!! I tortured myself my first three years with 8 am classes for nothing, and not trying to get a personality change in order to make it to class makes all the difference in the world.

      +Virginia Castiglione that's why i made a point to say if you really don't want 8AMs, don't take em. but a lot of us never even give ourselves the opportunity to take a single 8AM~

    How did you balance marching band and school? I am an incoming freshman majoring in Business Admin and i plan on doing marching band but I have no support from my family. I've always been a studious student and earned either B's or A's while balancing sports and band. Im more nervous for actually trying out.. any tips. i know im all over the place, sorry.

    Help! Freshman tying to register for fall classes and have only been able to get into 3 classes because they are all full. Can't register for my first year engineering classes. Can't find any waiting lists. Seen advisor multiple times and was told to keep trying 15 times a day to see if can get in. I was excepted into University as an engineering major. Why did they admit more students than they have classes for? Trying to pick the best professor is the least of my problems, just trying to get in a class, any class, any time. Anyone else out there have this problem?

    my school has a program that if you meet your an advisor once a semester you can make sure you graduate in 4 years otherwise they pay for any extra classes

    HA unless you're at my school as an engineering major! I have most of my classes like this
    One class (250 people max) available which means no choice in your prof and usually available ONE CERTAIN SEMESTER OF THE YEAR
    So good luck with these tips at my school!

    At my school you can't really hold a registration spot for someone. There's registering and there's waitlisting, so if someone registered to hold a spot and then dropped, the first person on the waitlist would get in. So you could maybe do it, but only if you're the first person on the waitlist.

    • @Katherout
      @Katherout  8 років тому

      +electricpenguin32 good point -- every registration system is different but in your case, you're right.
