    Oh how this makes me miss when my rescue buns were wee little babies; they were so darn cute. I've learned over the years and a number of rabbits, just how smart they really are. My oldest guy is like a dog. They can be very particular how they like their space, and can be litter box trained like cats. Thank you for this video, and showing just how amazing these little critters can really, truly be.

      Yes, same with raccoons. I know they're not the same species, just saying it, but raccoons are rarely kept as pets, though I did know a person who actually did have a pet raccoon and he was the cutest and smartest thing I ever saw/knew after cats and dogs.
      Rats too are very misunderstood even more so, rats are VERY smart, stay with their mate for life, and have "pups" as their offspring are called. They have many at once. Rats are even smarter than rabbits, and known too for having many offspring, but got a bad name because they lived in dark wet places, and once or twice spread disease to many many people but it was PEOPLE who spread more disease among other humans like the Native Indians when the disease-riddled
      Europeans traveled around the world trying to conquer it as the Romans tried to do as well back in the day and they succeeded in many places, especially Egypt Greece, Judea/Israel, etc..and Palestine. Like rats. lol
      Rats took residence on these ships as well and spread throughout the world. I think Ireland has a story of the rat infestation brought in by the English and other European conquistadors. They, rats, were blamed for spreading plagues, but they did not, it was actually HUMANS that spread the plagues around the world, not rats, as was once believed, it was humans who spread all these plagues throughout history and the world. especially during the many conquests and migrations.
      The native Americans did not have antibodies to protect them from diseases the Europeans brought with them, this happened to many other conquered peoples during the mass conquests throughout human existence, but especially the Europeans. They were and still are everywhere. They finally gave up to many indigenous people of the Americas and Island groups like Bahamas, Jamacia, etc...
      Sorry for the long post, plus any weird transitions as I had to break to do actual work. lol got a bit carried away as well when mixing and jumping from different historical periods and events.

      They don't have a long life span, which is difficult if you have them as pets. Although as pets they live longer in many cases because they are not prone to the diseases, and other hazards they're exposed to out in the wild, and also in the cities, counties, and countries around the world.

      Rabbits in Canada are solitary, they don't have warrens of many rabbits. Also pet rabbits aren't from that stock, so cannot breed with them, but can with, say UK wild rabbits.

  • @iamlost2

    Many years ago the science or animal science community classified rabbits as rodents, but they changed it, thankfully, a decade or more ago? to a class called/named "Lagomorph order" because a rabbit has four incisors in the upper jaw (including two non-functional teeth), while rodents only have two. Both rabbits and rodents each have two lower incisors.

    These are not rabbit made burrow. It is said that the real rabbits made burrows cause erosion of the land, especially downhill by a creek or river where rainwater above the hill forms rivulets. These allow water to enters the burrow and starts eroding the soft earth inside. Over time the burrow become bigger, the size of caves and then the roof collapses and all that soil is washed downstream when it rains heavily. There are thousands of burrow everywhere where rabbits are, but the problem is, they never cease digging new burrows and abandoning the old ones. Reason?🤔 New burrow are dug so only rabbits can enter and not foxes or other predators. However, Ferrets and other predators, e.g. Stoats, that can get in the burrow are a threat to rabbits but larger predators cannot enter. Once a burrow is enlarged by water erosion, the rabbits are at risk of attack. So they are in constant digging, usually under boulders too, where predarors find it hard to dig and enlarge the burrow, but that means snakes frequent these areas because they also kill rabbits.

    • @JSTNtheWZRD
      @JSTNtheWZRD 2 роки тому +4

      Perhaps they are meant to dig, like beavers are meant to build damns. Nature is quite strange, everything has its purpose - even us - we have many jobs - one of them - to watch over nature and understand it like an old friend.

    • @mattwroe4776
      @mattwroe4776 2 роки тому +5

      Just nature, humans do far more damage to rivers through pollution, building, floods diversion of water for farming the list goes on, rabbits work is natural and the earth would have balanced this our of 100s thousands of years, that soil will be deposited somewhere, and feed other animals and plants so no complaints unless they ate invasive then maybe they can be culled.

      Domestics can burrow but not as intricately. They mainly just dig big ass holes and lay in them from my experience having them and observing them. Domestic rabbits have lost a lot of things wild rabbits have. But when placed in a safe setting to try things. They'll still do things like dig and the like. It really depends. But they cannot fully survive on their own in a true wild setting
