We played every box in this expansion…… we won maybe the first 2 or 3 boxes but after that we might of won one out of about 20+ plays out of the rest of the expansion. There is nothing like starting your turn with full health and ended up stunned every turn. The potion expansion was a little easier but added a lot of time to our plays. Win or lose we enjoy this game and been thinking of replaying the boxes again.
Well we played the main game when it came out. Deborah thought we hadn't played it on the show and wanted to play it so we decided we could do the expansion. Thanks for the note and for watching. -Lincoln
55:55 Whoops, Deborah could have assigned one to Norbert from the discarded three influence, as she advised Nikki to do on her next turn. That said, I can identify with this happening because despite being "the teacher" of my household, I occasionally forget things too.
The base game is my family’s favorite game but after we finished all games up to “year seven” we went back and continued to play year five which we think is the best. It is challenging but winnable (usually a very close call) and can be played in a reasonable amount of time. After that, we feel the game becomes too long and involved, so we are happy playing game five over and over. That’s why we never bought the expansion. I can’t imagine playing for 3 hours. That would be way past its welcome for us. I remember enjoying watching you guys play the base game way back when. I will watch this episode soon.
My co-op group has played game 7 several times and we have not yet beat it yet. I have this expansion ready to go for a couple years now and have not opened it!
I do believe you were playing Luna's glasses wrong, isn't the card either places back on top or " discarded" and not just placed on the bottom of the deck to stack all the bad ones together.
I have been playing the base game using the house rule that puts duplicates in the store on top of each other. This way there are always 6 unique cards to purchase. I have the Monster Box of Monsters and the Charms and Potion expansions to play.
Would love to see you play more campaign games to their completion, like the initiative which was great. Specifically pandemic legacy season 1, beyond January game 1 which you’ve already done!
So awesome, super excited to see new plays for this game, especially with the expansion! I haven’t played Potions yet, Monsters is a fun addition. Think you’ll play the Potions expansion one day? OR EVEN BETTER maybe give Avatar: Aang’s Destiny a go?! Happy New Year! 🎊 🎉
Hello! The instructor lady was very comprehensive and thorough. I really liked the way she presented the How to play section. This is one of my favourite games as well. I would not have paired certain characters with certain proficiencies as she did, though. I would not pair Hermione with Charms, because she wants to play spells, not discard them. Charms go perfectly with Luna guaranteeing her to use her ability for drawing. Flying lessons would fit Hermione the best, because she's the one with the highest chance of generating the most money. Ofc, any setup is fine if you like, just talking about my experiences. After the lady said that she's played so much time with this game, I was really surprised by the number of mistakes. They have happened both in favor and against you. 34:25 You may discard it, not put it on the bottom. 50:55 No, you weren't. You just lost 1 health for the dark arts. 55:48 It's not a mistake, just a missed opportunity. Norbert could have got an influence. You added one to him the next turn, so I hoped you would recognise this and add one afterwards. 58:13 This is quite a huge mistake. When you are stunned by Avada Kedavra, you are also supposed to add 2 controls to the location, also, you didn't draw the extra dark arts for that particular card. Luna would not have been stunned however, if you didn't forget to gain 2 health when you defeated Barty. 1:00:44 I would not have wasted 5 influence for 2 health! None of you have bought anything for a whole turn. In this case, the replacement might be in order. It's even more terrible, because nobody took the 2 health. And to raise it to another level, this also would have prevented a stun. 1:16:37 If the Luna player used the ally to gain 2 health, that would be his 3rd, with which he could have drown a card with which healed somebody for 2. 1:22:26 With 6 money I without doubt would have bought Alastor over a 4-cost OWLs. 1:27:23 Unfortunately, another missed 2 health for somebody. 1:36:12 I am surprised for not carrying out Crabbe and Goyle, despite doing it a couple of turns earlier in the same manner. 1:43:35 None of you have an item to banish? Really? The Ron player just took a Detention and it might have been worth to have a look at everybody's discard pile. 1:46:29 Those 2 attacks from Hermione's power would have come in handy. 1:47:34 Again, you were not on 4 health at the end of your turn. You've lost health since. 2:08:54 No, you wouldn't, because Fluffy is a creature. 2:10:46 It would make a difference, because if you discarded, you would lose 3 health because of Crabbe and Goyle. 2:14:27 Again, you just didn't remove an attack from Fluffy for Lucius's power, because it being a creature, but still combined it with Crabbe and Goyle. 2:15:00 A lot of benefits were missed. 4 cards not drawn and 2 health not gained. Everybody gained 2 health for the Deluminator through Harry, that's ok. Then the Luna player gained a 3rd health with Quiddich gear, but did not draw a card for Herbology, thus did not heal anybody for 2 health which would mean a card draw for that person again for Herbology. 2 even cards were played which with the completed encounter could mean 1-1 health to the remaining 2 players who haven't received a 3rd health yet, thus 1-1 card missed for them as well with Herboology. 2:22:31 You didn't play 4 spells, only 2 and discarded 2. 2:29:10 I would want to banish the Detention with Tergeo over Filch for the opportunity to draw another card. Also a lot of mess here. Some played cards put in the discard pile, some put amongst the cards in hand, no cards discarded for Cho. I couldn't even follow which card should be where because of changing mind between actions. 2:39:18 OWLs also gives 2 influence. 2:40:26 I don't understand why even hesitate about discarding the Sock? It gives you 2 influence when you discard it. I was so happy about discard at the end, but no idea why not take the 2 coins? 2:42:52 This is another big mistake. It's still Step 3, so played cards should not be in the discard pile, thus should not get shuffled. 2:49:24 The sock should have paid off a few times if you've taken the 2 influence it gives you. 2:53:54 You still should discard 2 cards for playing Cho, so in this case I suggest playing that card last, when you've already played all other cards in your hand. 2:54:52 You do have to discard for Legilimency. 2:57:12 The 3rd big mistake. It's still Step 3, so you don't draw 5 new cards and add the reward card to your next turn. 3:00:06 I would have taken the 2 health with Hedwig, because in this situation the maximum attack that can be dealt is 1. 3:07:15 I would not have discarded Tergeo, because there is a chance that you can draw a card with it. Just the Alohomora. 3:14:17 Ron would actually finish Voldemort off, if he drew a card for Tergeo. It was his owl for an attack, which was another attack for the Every-flavour beans. Despite all these I enjoyed watching this video and I do watch your videos if you play a game that I like. Happy Christmas to you!
This game is a miserably brutal experience that depends so much on luck-of-the-draw to even have fun. The lack of growth in character strength throughout the years doesn't make any sense - why don't they get more spell cards as they age? The gold should be saved between rounds. Many design choices that seem needlessly unfun.
love love love game night in general but absolutely watch every episode with Deborah. so easy going, smart and charming.

wow! Interesting that we get a playthrough of this like 7 years after it came out. Love the game!

Is this debs first teach! Exciting!
She's done others, but more DAW, the better.
It's not her first but she definitely doesn't do it often. Thanks for the note and for watching! -Lincoln

Always wanted to play the base game but never did. After this I think I’ll get it for our co-op group. Thanks for playing this!

We had a blast playing the original game and got the expansion but it was too difficult for us and we gave up. 😢
