I have spent a lifetime in Woods and Wilderness. Never once have I batoned with a knife. Now I can see where I might have to if I failed to prepare. So it is good to know if your knife can hold up to it.
@chrisp308 Well, the idea I guess is you are in the wilderness or shtf with nothing but a knife. Me personally I am gonna have a sawback machete on my pack at all times. One is on it right now. If I am going for say 2 weeks at minimum I want something to hammer stakes and chop or split wood so that would be a camp axe or a Tomahawk does ok. It beats a knife for sure.

@@UncleDanBand64 yes I know a hatchet is better but I want to be prepared for anything with the way the world is going.
Batoning wood with a knife was never a thing until someone could make money on a UA-cam video 🤣

@jesseboutdoors I don't blame you sir. Me too.
That batoning is hard work. Both are good skills to have.
@@Tex_I_Can definitely something I want to learn to do. With the way things are going I want to be prepared for anything.
@@jesseboutdoors Absolutely understandable.
Best tip, use a lighter😂
@@UncleDanBand64 trying to prepare for anything. Not like a planned camping trip.

That piece is too big compared to the knife. Hitting on the tip will break it. 2:50
@@HarshmanHills that’s what I was thinking. I’m going to go back into the farmers woods by me and find something smaller.
@@jesseboutdoors something else you can do is use a knife to get a crack in it. and then make a wedge and use that to split the rest of the way
@@HarshmanHills that’s funny you mention that. I showed my boy what I did and he finished that piece with a wedge.
Do yourself a favor and get a cheap hatchet. And use the knife as a knife and not a froe.
@@chrisp308 I’ve got a hatchet also. Just trying to learn and be prepared for anything.
A hatchet would work better but you don’t always have one. Smart to practice with what you carry all the time
