The problem with Tiger Barbs is they give a bad name to all the other Barbs. Most of the barbs are peaceful fish that look great and get along quite well with a lot of other fish. Yet Tiger barbs get all the attention. There are Gold, Cherry, Odessa, Rosy, Rhombo, Melon, just to name a few that aren't jerks like tiger barbs. Maybe you can do a "NICE BARB" video.
That's so true :-) I avoid all barbs due to these ones, and also I project that other barbs are as "adrenaline-active" as these ones. Probably I am wrong on that too.
I like the tiger barbs and Buenos Aires tetra for their vibrant energetic behavior. I will not put them in a community tank because they will bully all the fish and disturb the peace, but I combine them with big (peaceful) cichlids. If you want to pair schooling fish with big cichlids you need strong assertive fish, not afraid of the big fish. The Buenos Aires tetra is an excellent swimmer and loves the surface area of the aquarium. They are still small, 2-3 cm and they navigate cleverly between the 18 cm blue acara’s. Also their schooling behavior is very good in presence of the big fish (I suspect they all will go their way if there is no kind of threat, only smaller fishes. My conclusion is that these semi aggressive, assertive fish are excellent for pairing with most Amazon cichlids (not the angelfish or the slow moving ones). PS I have also 8 tiger barbs and 8 green barbs in another tank, the green ones are much more aggressive, the tiger barbs look slow and peaceful compared to these. I found that this character trait is indeed characteristic for the green barbs, it’s not just the color breeding!
@@jacobschmitz9903 I’ve talked about them here and there but in reality I do think that guppies are a solid fish. They do have two issues that 1 they breed too much and 2 have a lot of genetic defects. So I could definitely see a video on guppies for the future
@@Fishman2114 I know you've talked about them in your tier list. Was wondering if you had different opinions on the others like mollies, platies, swords, and whatnot comparing all 4 to each other and their hybrids and whatnot
My tiger barbs before is cleaner, sharp markings unlike what is commonly seen like in the video, I've always wondered if it was a very good like grade AAA, but no one really cared if it is. The bands are perfect lines, the base color is smooth, not blotchy. 😅
@Fishman2114 I have a small 9.25" by 9.25" by 9.25" tank and I was looking to get up and going soon after I get plants going and such and was looking for the perfect little fish to put in it maybe some chili Rasboras or neon tetra's but wasn't sure if the tank could support like five or six of either species and maybe a couple shrimp I'm trying to do as much research as I can so I don't accidentally kill any animals that's the last thing I want to happen I've had tanks before but not that small
@@LeroyMasten Same here (I made a small little text note in the video); but the average size is about 2 inches. But I have seen some tiger barbs that are way bigger closer to 3 inches.
@Fishman2114 I went to this Chinese restaurant they had a tank had green barbs them were a good chunky 6 or 7 inches .I wasn't complaining or trying to be a know it all sry if it came across like that

@@NYGOLD I like that idea or at least the general concept of talking about the different barbs and how I would group them. Thanks for the suggestion!

Do you have any videos on fish for nano tanks?
@@CarlKeeling1881 I do, recently I made a tier list for nano fish which I’d recommend checking out if that’s what you’re looking for :)
