The OKC Thunder have unleashed their young core after a strong start to the NBA season. Jalen Williams on how the Thunder are dealing with extremely high expectations this season. Nobody is expecting this but their new young star Chet Holmgren has just broken the Thunder’s block record after putting up 7 blocks against the Cleveland Cavaliers. After being constantly compared to Spurs’ Unicorn Victor Wembanyama, the 7 foot 1 Holmgren is making a name for himself as part of a young Oklahoma City Thunder core headed by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Josh Giddey, Jalen Williams, and Lu Dort. After OKC wins against the Cavs and the Chicago Bulls, the Thunder look primed to make the NBA playoffs once again for the first time since their rebuild began.
NBA highlights have shown a lot of the OKC Thunder and their tremendous rebuild orchestrated by Sam Presti. Chet Holmgren is only one of the Thunder’s prized rookies along with Cason Wallace and Vasilije Micic. Holmgren has been one of the most anticipated young unicorns to enter the NBA. Chet Holmgren vs. Victor Wembanyama matchups will be the talk of the basketball world for years. But this early, Chet is already trying to set himself apart in the Rookie of the year race with the OKC Thunder’s superior talent.
But how good really is Chet Holmgren? Victor Wembanyama has sent the NBA a message but can the OKC Thunder emerge into the playoffs with their young core of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Holmgren, Josh Giddey and Jalen WIlliams. Is Chet a DPOY candidate just like Wembanyama? Can OKC beat Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets in heir next game?

Will Chet be the Thunder's number two Option Soon? 🤔
end of year yes.
I don't think they'll have a consistent #2. They are deeeeep, but it's shai then everyone else. I would love to be wrong, because that means he will progress way faster than I expected
Truth hurts but we will trade one of Giddey and Jdub because of cap issues.. It's gonna be Chet Shai and one of those two as the championship core
I can see it. I think he will be our number 2 guy. Love having Chet on our team 😆💪⛈️🏀💙
No. Self creation isn’t consistent enough but his game naturally generates more possessions and more efficient possessions easily.
Chet has all the tools to be the best player in the Thunder. No cap
Respectfully, he’s not better than SGA
@@daylanberry7955 not right now, offense is built around SGA. but you'll see chet's full impact on the defensive end, and how game changing it is from last year.
Crazy big win against the Cavs. Looks like a better year for OKC
facts!
As an okc thunder fan this year it’s gonna be hell of year for us we coming for all the smoke
@@BrizeGoldseaL10fan this year? Drop the “we” rhetoric lol
@@manbearpig74012 I’ll been a fan of okc since back in the day they always been my fav team till I die ⚡️👊🏾
The kid has a very high IQ. See's the floor and takes the optimal play. Chet and Wemby are beyond their years in terms of maturity and composure.
Can't agree more. both are unreal!
I don't know this youngster worries me he looks like he's awful fragile especially when he plays people like Queen James that will put his shoulder down and run into you like a linebacker then you get called for the blocking foul when it's obviously a charge I think he intentionally tries to hurt people I just hope this youngster can make it through the season without getting hurt but like I said he looks awful fragile to me
This channel I have to watch because you overlook the most obvious things let's see how far the Thunder go teams will make changes and the thunder coaches are not good if Chet has had a good game rookie of the year let's see
I think he will be 2nd to Shai in the scoring hierarchy in a few years. Kobe and Gasol 2.0
We’ll find out soon
My prediction: top 5 in west.
🌩️
If only sam did not trade sengun.
Serge didn’t have the record Aleksej Pokusevski did
yeah man my bad. Poku it is. Didn't know how I missed that
Great commentary about Holmgren. Well done 🎉.
thanks mate!!
love cheddar bob! thunderup!
ThunderUp!!
They just need to get him and Wemby some more meat in their diet 😂
I have him ahead of Wemby for RotY
It's gonna be a tight Rookie of the year race. Other rookies have been showing up as well
No game that chet did not fall down. The thunder need a big bodied center and make chet a power forward until chet develop his body. Sign dwight howard if they make the playoffs and draft kyle filipowski next year.
I think they're really planning to use Chet as a center full-time to keep that five-out offense at all times. Seems to be working fine for now. Chet has held his own and even played better against Vucevic, Mobley, and Duren so far. We gotta see how OKC plays with Jwill back on the lineup
@@riroballs or trade for robert williams.
yeah they need a bruiser in the paint to extend Chet's longevity.

Just because he can doesn't mean he should. A bruiser to help in the paint would definitely extend Chet's longevity.
I definitely agree with where you are coming from man.. I believe the front office is trying things out first. Just as Sam said, he wants to see what this current starting lineup can do first on a substantial sample size before he makes additional moves. We'll see what happens soon. Olivier Sarr has been really good as a big bodied backup center so far. I wouldn't be surprised to see both Jwill and Sarr finish the year as the teams' backups bigs
Wait until they get him more involved in the offense.
Facts! It's actually scary that he's not even consistently used as a mid post hub or a roll man
@@riroballs yup only 5 shot attempts last game is not enough for a player of his caliber. And he was on fire behind the arc.
Don't forget the other OKC rookie, Cason Wallace. He was drafted 10th, and the thunder traded up to get him. And he's already a huge impact! I think the big difference between this year and last year is our three point shooting. At the start of the year, we really only had Shai and Dort, both CAN shoot, but are pretty inconsistent. Midway through the season, Isaiah Joe stepped up and became a big 3 point shooter for us. This year, we have Chet, who is a pretty good shooter, and Cason Wallace is a KNOCK DOWN 3 point shooter. He has looked like a great shooter in every pre season and regular season game this season.
Totally agree with this as a Thunder fan who always wanted us to draft Cason. He is already a game changer and could be special in a couple years
Did Poku had 6 blocks in his rookie year?
Media just don’t want to recognise him so no one is talking about that
Yea he did
My bad man. Upon checking yes Poku did have 6 blocks in a game as a rookie. Apparently the information that Michael Cage had during the game was wrong
Ausar Thompson rookie of year
Heard it first here
Correction. Poku had 6 blocks in a game in his rookie season. 😊
Yeah man that's my bad. Sorry I missed that one. Poku is like one of my favorite Thunder players
I said b4 the season... 50 WINS
💪
So far..
Chet>Wemb
Cason> Scoot
Dieng
i really love Dieng.. maybe he's better than Duren in a few years but Cason is gonna be a star though
Chet better than Wemby? I know even you don’t believe that, but you think if you say enough it’ll come true.
He is a bust
Wemby will kick his butt
😂😂😂
I havent seen wemby out play him this year yet sooooo 😂😂😂 i mean wemby went what 0-6 lastnight from 3 😂🤡
They’re both great
@@tysonkelley2631I love that you had to selectively focus on the stats, but if you watched the game, the kid was clutch when it mattered most. He called for the ball last 20 seconds, and tied the game up. He has that “it” factor. Let’s see Chet come through when the team needs it most.
@@hectorrocks087775 but that's exactly what Chet did against the Cavs as well. Tied the game in the clutch.. it's pretty even between the two up to this point
