So, I'm no speedrunner, but from my experience of playing Sun and Moon, you don't have to do that weird stutter step to get past Beauty Crystal on Route 2. Just hug the left side of the slope and you should always get past her. Maybe there's a chance it fails or something, and I just don't know, but I've always done that to skip the trainer.
i've only played sun once but that sounds right that it might be inconsistent, which would make it okay for TAS (tool assisted speedrun, like with save states and stuff) but not too viable for RTA (real time attack)

Super late but I had a similar experience with Resident Evil 8, it's definitely a fun game when you first play it, however once you start speed running a bit, it becomes such a unique experience.
Took me until the victory road fight to realise he was saying Hop. I'm assuming it's intentional given the move name typos seeming intentional as well. (Noom Blast, PsyKick, etc.)
The recognition it... DESERVES?! PEOPLE SLEEPING ON IT?!?! WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?! THAT THING ENDED UP STEALING THE SPOTLIGHT FROM DICIDUEYE(AND the incinaroar too really)! yea... rowlet WAS the most popular out of the box... but then what happened? their final evolutions happened. . . that's when people got to see the stats. . . POPPLIO then ended up being the more loved one going forward. . . . there was even a time where it even managed to steal ou... primirina's amazing typing combined with its amazing move pool AND getting it with hp fire... it was a cannon the completely decimated all of ou.... though, it then had a falling out at some point. people then just stopped using it. don't really know what had actually happened, but it appears it ended up succumbing to power creep, the metta ended up changing AGAINST it and it ended up being less favored. The recognition it deserves... yea right. . . . I ended up hating popplio with a passion for what it ended up doing to my favorite... rowlet. . . of course, I kinda ALREADY disliked it from right out of the box(together with MANY others at the time), but what popplio did... was PERSONAL. . . and it just ended up being my most HATED starter than any other from ALL games so far... for even as good as it was... I NEVER used it simply out of spite. . . The fact it ended up being used in speed runs was NEVER a reality check for people to have suddenly realized just how good it was... its a reminder. . . . and a never-ending KICK in the nads to EVERYONE who was on the "Team Rowlet" boat... like me. . . . . Though, what I found REALLY funny about ALL of this was. . . Incinaroars inclusion to smash bros ultimate. this series usually tends to nominate POPULAR characters from the pool of games that each fighter hails from. litten(being my SECOND favorite btw, so people please put down your torches and pinch forks, lol)was the UNDERDOG of the popularity contest... its ALMOST as if they WEREN'T paying any attention to EVERYTHING that happened with the popularity poles that happend in the sun and moon games and just went with incinaroar just cuz... he looked cool. of course... being a pokemon that was based off of a wrestler-type figure, yes he was the best pick. but it was REALLY WEIRD because it FEELS like they picked him under the assumption that that was the one they THOUGHT was the most popular... it was more like they were saying "Popplio... Rowlet?! NO DUMB, DUMBS! THIS was the one you should have loved the most!". so this choice was just completely biased in general... litten WASN'T the most popular... it was rowlet. . . then popplio just came along and ended up usurping them both in the end(lmao).
I think I remember seeing someone lose a Nuzlocke to Hau, and then the game just continued anyway despite the fact they lost and they were completely baffled how to handle that.
So glad i see you playing this game for a video! Although Platinum has always been my #1 favorite of all the games, Sun/Moon/USUM are definitely my 2nd favorites! Cool to see how it would look for a speedrun setting
I remember back in the day people went "wtf do you mean I could've run from the koko, now my koko is shit for vgc!" GF sent out a shiny tapu-koko with HP ice (though it would be more optimal to use the other one due to HP mind games!) pretty damn quickly. So yeah fk the 6 minute wait for koko.
Definitely would be more interesting to end off after the HoF, since the alternative is basically just waiting 6 minutes for a coin flip, which seems like a very uninteresting waste of time.
Petting your pokemon is also important, cause when theyre good friends with you, they often dodge attacks or keep that 1hp in battle, when you otherwise would've lost or sth

I’ve actually wanted to begin speed running Pokémon Moon (or any of the Alola games) due to whacky it is!! Also yes, it is extremely dumb that the speedrun goes all the way up to Tapu Koko lol.

One of two wastes of a cameo in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. Dexio and Sina could have helped us stop Team Skull, but they chose to f**k off and enjoy their vacation. And don't get me started about Looker...
Not a speedrunner but I don't think so, considering you'd have to sit through the shaking Pokéball animation and mash through all the post-capture textboxes (Pokedex entry etc.)

The second pokemon game my dad bought for me was Pokemon Sun. (A.K.A: I was at the store looking for a pokemon game with Growlithe/Arcanine in it and found pokemon Sun, knowing nothing about the game beforehand and that was literally the only reason I got the game.)
this game was my first pokemon game and i just now realized xitems dont normally give a plus 2 cause i only really used them for ultra sun elite 4, so yeah my last 3 years of pokemon have been a lie
Sun and Moon was when I returned to Pokémon after my red/blue/gold/silver childhood. It was cool to see different things but I dunno about this Gen. - z moves were silly to me - kind wanted to have gyms I didn’t enjoy what they did - I really didn’t like the tapu legendaries BUT the ride mechanism was cool and the ultra beasts are cool and was a cool intriguing storyline that I remember kept me reading and not skipping.
Personally, I feel like the Tapu Koko fight is justified being included because it's a mandatory fight that occurs before the credits roll - wild Pokemon or not.
