It might not be ideal, but I've used 650b tubes in 700c tires before. Have also used 26" tubes in 650b tires before. It does work in a pinch.
also came here to say this. you should be able to get away with 650b butyl tubes just fine.

Henry pal, first off you mispelled "Gavel" in your title, it may affect your view count ever so slightly in the search results 😁. Second, the route reminded me of the final day on the Lake Mendocino tour I did with the Santa Rosa Cycling Club, we came down from Orr Springs road back to Ukiah High School. I didn't realize gravel paradise was just around the corner, hopefully one day I can revisit that area and ride some dirt. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for catching that for me! Orr Springs is a great option too. We turned off on Low Gap road from Orr Springs. It adds some climbing, and depending on the time of year, it can be muddy. I remember you talking about the tour. If I remember correctly, you camped out at Russian Gulch State Park, is that right?
Another dirt road option would be Sherwood. However, that puts you in Willits and there isn't an easy way back to Ukiah from there, at least not yet. The Rails to Trails plan is to put in a bike path all the way from San Francisco (Marin) to Humboldt. Once that's complete, hopefully sooner, there will be a path from Willits to Ukiah. Even if they could just get a dirt connector up and running soon that would be great!
Fantastic..you have good legs I would observe. Have you been upping your riding/training over the past while. Events over on the other side of the Atlantic totally excellent. Only need one flat to spoil one’s aspirations! I miss Miss Cools though!! Thank you for sharing this lovely ride.
Thanks Felix! Going into this race, I was more rested. About three weeks ago I participated in a bike packing race in Southern California. It was a very challenging course with lots of climbing (34,000 feet). With the mountain bike race the weekend after, I think I picked up some fitness to carry into this race. Even with all that said I still feel like my fitness is mostly low intensity. These races are are on another level and I was feeling it towards the end. I managed to keep from cramping, so that was really satisfying.
Every year I say to myself I will do these again, but come the beginning of the year I'm too out of shape haha.

These races are fun even without coming in with lots of fitness. The routes are consistently some of the best I've ever ridden. They open you up to new areas to ride and challenge you at the same time. I think they're great. I usually try and start a little towards the back, so I'm not in the way of the very competitive folks and then have a nice day riding my pace.
I've seen other youtubers say you can use a 650b tube on 700 setup to finish a race, event or bikepacking trip as long as the widths are similar.
It will work, I just takes a little more effort to get it seated without pinching it between the tire bead and the rim. Being in such a rush I opted for a better fitting tube since it was available.
