in america, this scam usually involves speakers that the boss doesnt have room in the store for. both salesmen are traditionally jacked up on cocaine or meth while they circle parking lots screaming at random people how stupid they are for not purchasing speakers out of a van.
Two guys in white truck came to me today and they were so convincing about there product, I started youtube just to see quality of this product and found this video. This video saved me. Thanks man.
I got done with this scam about 10 years ago. I was young, naive and stupid - but it just so happened I was already in the market for a surround sound. It seemed like a bit of good fortune had come my way. We settled on a price of AU$1500 cash for everything... speakers, amp, subs etc. They loaded up the back of my ute with all the goods and followed me in their van to the bank. Turning into the bank car park, I checked my mirror to see if they were still following - but no one was behind me. It seemed like they had lost me along the way. I often think about it today, and how funny to them it must have been to land a sucker like me... only to lose their gear as well as a payday - all because they couldn't pay attention.
Roy Reyes It was pretty shit. It worked... just not very good. I ended up boxing it back up and stored it for a few years before dumping it. Best money I ever not spent really.
jaydeeinbriz Truth is they still scammed you. You still had to get rid of that garbage somewhere. And I for one totally believe they loaded in your ute. Why wouldn't they. It cost them almost nothing. It's the worst garbage ever built. That whole $1500 system must likely cost them less then $75 US at the time. It's absolute junk. I've seen it.
Is it poverty or greed that causes these people to be so deplorably dishonest? Do they wake up in the morning, look in the mirror, and feel happy with themselves?
Some people like to hustle others for money. They just like the game because it makes them money (if they can scam people). Successfully scamming people probably gives them a short term high/euphoria. There's unscrupulous people out there, that's just the way it is.
AntPDC I went to a job interview one time for "A/V installer" that turned out to be one of these places, it's local distributors buying cheap imported Chinese no-name crap knockoff equipment and they hire salesman to drive the cars around, say they're installers and have some equipment that wasn't used and peddle it to people who don't know it's junk.
+ Robert Martinez But I DO think people are entitled to earn a decent living - who's saying "people don't want to make money"? Not I. Are you saying that greed and dishonesty are morally legitimate?
This type of scam has been around forever. One version is that "they ordered 1 and got 11 because of a misprint and it's your lucky day". It's usually broken stuff or products with the inside components changed.
Just had a couple of guys try to do this exact thing to me in Perth, Western Australia but once I googled STFO pty ltd (while I was in the line at the bank) and this video came up I told them where to go. So I owe you a massive thanks!
HATE these scammers! THANKS FOR POSTING THIS. This scam is not exclusive to Australia. Got Scammed in Portland, Oregon back in 2000. Beware: the products change, but the scam is basically always the same.
Jesus. At least the British/American scammers I've seen know how to sound knowledgeable. We Australians don't really try to fit the role. "Yeah, it's fuckin' great n shit."
I just got scammed about an 1h ago lost 460$. they even made up a fake site with the product and was going for 5k and on eBay it was 2500$. stupidity I thought it was a great deal. it's all good i have learned my lesson. be aware people if someone came up to you in a white van.
straight up. they came up to me with a nice van with a decent looking logo and uniforms and they seem pretty legit. Got my set for 300 and when testing it out it felt like it was only worth 50 dollars or less
isthislife2 The parts are crap and not what they advertised. Not to mention being an technician, the speakers fail quality tests such as the super low quality capacitors that are bound to explode.
I fell for it in the late '90s. They sold me cheap chinese speakers. I sold them at a second hand shop the same night just to get rid of them. Learned my lesson.
@mr2020rockhampton your an absolute legend for standing up to these 2 guys. Even the 5 minutes of their day that you wasted may have saved someone else from getting scammed.
I bought a pair of speakers in 1983 for $40 out of a white van in a parking lot.My ex roommate still has them in his basement by his pool table and they work fine. They were labeled Acoustic Monitor and were three way with a 12" woofer.
OMFG I have those too!!! They got me back in 1998 for $200. They're still in my basement, in their original boxes. I hooked them up one time and they seemed to work, but I already have (good) speakers so back in their boxes they went! Same brand and specs on the box as you got back in 1983 lol
I spoke to a friend recently that worked one day on a meat truck scam. He had no idea till they went out with a 'trainer' that it was a scam at all. He answered an ad in the paper labeled 'drivers wanted'. I found it surprising that the scammers would draw in more drivers/scammers with a simple ad!
I had a mate get stung in a similar scam about 20years ago in Sydney. He ducked up to maccas and came back about an hour later with two massive VEGA floor speakers for $600 (a lot of money back then). I stripped the back of them for him to check what was inside and it and sadly it was fake junk. He sold them to a pawn shop for about $125. The guy behind the counter laughed as soon as my mate wheeled the boxes in the front of the shop. He said a lot of lads were getting stung with the same scam.
My father once bought me a "home theater" sound system for Christmas when I got my first apartment. As soon as I opened it I noticed how light it was, so I checked the brand online and it was fake. I ended up opening the speakers and the wires were so thin nothing even worked. He got approached by a guy in a van telling him he had been canceled and he paid 300$ for it. I felt so bad for him, especially since I was working at Best Buy at that time and our boss had told us about that scam lol
lol, a couple of years back, this kind of fools tried to sell me some damn speakers, i told them i could go as high as 5 bucks, needless to say. there was not deal done that day. apparently it costs more than 5 bucks to product that crap.. who Knew...
Bought some speakers in a similar situation back in my teen years. Paid $100 for them from some dude in a van with out of state plates. Still have the speakers and they work great after 15 years.
Its funny, how the guy said - (ooh ya Ill ring the owner his name is Brain).....LOL the looks on those two guys faces..... was a ooh shit moment....LMAO
bravo! someone knew before-hand, what the deal was, and basically toyed/played with them, not intending to buy. what needs to happen next is that everyone on planet needs to be schooled on this scam. put all those sons of bitches out of business. this needs to be common knowledge. before people get to high school or college, when they are in middle school or high school at the latest, they can learn their geometry or trigonometry and science and white van scams all at the same time. heck, make it a part of economics class.
So these guys say they install these these systems but yet do you see any tools in the van or wire? How the hell are you installers when you don’t even have tools to install anything? Lol yeah nice one.
I've been approached by guys like this in Canada. Same routine. I asked the cops if what they were doing was legal...they had been looked into buy the cops recently...turns out they buy the stuff cheep, have recipts and way-bills(spelling?) to prove it, and try to sell it to you on the fly with high pressure tactics under the guise it's a bit dodgy and a great deal. It's too much hastle for the little lies and what not for the cops to chase em legally. just BUYER BEWARE applies.
yea i went to a job interview in fort Lauderdale from Craigslist as a delivery driver the systems cost them like 50 bucks but sticker tag says 2500 they send out like 5 of these trucks to cruise around in set areas theres no just real corporations its like swap shop audio made to look highend
They almost got me around 7-10 years ago, dude rocked up in a white van just after I pulled out $500 from an atm. Smooth talker had a system blu ray player, projector and surround sound. $3500 said he'd do it for $1200 I was like nah mate. He immediately slashed the price to $800, I said no. He then slashed it to $400 and I was considering it, I asked him how do I know if the stuff works? He offered to come to my house and install it free. It was at this stage I sensed stranger danger and decided not to go through with the purchase.
i once encountered a guy trying to sell me surround sound speakers for $2500. I ended up paying $80 so he could get gas. They actually sounded pretty good.
YO I got scammed by one of these guys then I saw the same guy a few weeks later he didnt recognize me. I went up to him asking if i could buy one and as he was following my car to an atm I called the cops and they blocked his van in the atm and arrested him right there. Didnt get my $160 back but I got some sweet ass revenge.
I unfortunatly got scammed to. I only paid 100 bucks though, they wanted like 600. There in newport beach california. I cant wait to see this guy again.
I live the US and fell for the guys in the white van selling Acoustic Lab Technology 600 Speakers. 25 years later, the spiel still is the same. These are crap speakers. Sound awful. No matter how much you adjust the knobs, they sound dead. Avoid them at all cost.
They came by a gas station once in the bad part of town. Was trying to scam some thug and said they'd give it to him for $1800 the whole setup. Well, the guy said he'd take it all and pulled out a gun. The young thug drove off into the sunset with some shitty equipment, a white van and their wallets.
Yea because counterfeiting is pure honesty in action right? Pretty sure you'd be rotting in prison while they only have a $50 fine for not getting the proper soliciting permits.
I saw a guy take apart that same projector in another video. He found it in a dumpster. Piece of shit. It "works", but it's more like 600p... nowhere near 1080. It's all just cheap plastic inside.
I took apart one of their speaker systems, cheap ass drivers and the cases were filled with cement to add weight. You'd have to be a fucking knob to fall for this shit.
Yeah. These cheap shit projectors are usually 800x600, piss poor optics, low lumens with dim corners, etc. etc.. But they can get away with saying "1080p" because it will display a 1080p source.. Albeit VERY poorly..
I baught a set of Icinima speakers from eBay. I acted quickly because I just assumed that the price was super low because of a seller without much knowing. I baught the Icinima 5.1 2500 watt set for $90 had a 10 inch sub with 4 3-way book shelf speakers with a 4" woofer, a 2" mid driver, and a 3/4" tweeter. Unbelievable. The thing was said to be tube amped and had a LCD screen. The central system looked a little wicked. But all in all what I'm saying is that the truck scam sold mostly Icinima products even a Germany version of the scam still sold the exact same thing but a German name. Im completly satisfied with it. It came with fake Battery's and a homemade Manuel with fake Battery's no trace of the website anywhere, but I'm glad I got it anyway because it's a really decent set. It's called the Icinima 5500
There once was this kid I worked with selling auto parts and this white van pulled into the lot and asked him if he wanted to buy a Bluetooth speaker system and they wanted like $1000 each, anyway after talking them down he got 2 for $50 and went home on his break to try them out and he said they sounded awesome. It was the tower style speaker that you can put your phone on the top of it. I was mad I didn't get one too lol. Oh and this was in Long Island, NY
i've had these guys approach me twice. Both times just said I just bought speakers. But if they harrass you always keep the local police station number in your cell phone.
we need to share this to everyone they tried this on my earlier today and i almost gave them my $180, good thing I dont really like the product! they're here in Maryland now too!
Nice work on getting their faces on camera! This stuff needs to stop, but where do you start? Theres a long list of incredibility with the companies, magazines, phone numbers, websites. The authorities in Western Canada wouldnt lift a finger, they told me i shouldn't have bought it from the hustlers, its an untraceable transaction as soon as they leave the area! Bastards told me the stuff was worth $9000, i was just making sums in my head in regards to resale so i bought it!
The same type of scam happens in little old Nova Scotia, Canada. I've seen them (not these specific guys) selling their shit in the parking lots all over.
man this happen here in canada by the beer store. guy came up in an nice suv with rims. told me its worth 5k for the projector offered it to me for 100 bucks. but then you read the box and it has a gps attached to it. alll they gotta do is say it was stolen track it down and then they get to sell it again! said his boss over stocked and would sell it him self so they were sellin it
Damn I've been using speakers that I obtained this way. Me being a young kid coming out of a Lexus in southern california probably inspired them to target me. I've been under the impression that I got a good deal considering the speakers haven't failed me. However, the sound quality for a supposedly $2500 retail pair of speakers wasn't adding up despite only trading my watch. I wish I was aware that this is a prevalent scam everywhere
Dnt ever buy, I didnt know, thought was a good deal for $250, cus MSRP was $1200. But what I got was a piece of crap, speakers sounded blown and remote never worked from the box.
Wow this straight up happened to me, They can be convincing, I was thinking of buying some but didn't have the cash on me. Glad I didn't. He said he was working at the movie theatre and they were changing all the speakers or whatever, and they ordered too many so they were trying to get some of the money back or something. He offered me $15,000 of equipment for $500.
My disabled neighbor bought one. The price tag said 580 and she got it for 180 dollars. I hooked it up and nothing worked. I gave it to a friend who told me he got 50 dollars out of it. Bad scam.
i saw white van sellers about 6 months ago and bought a 7.1 surround sound off them for $400, they were genuine Dali Concepts and rrp for over $2000, tbh i like white vans :D I'm also in Victoria and I met them at Cooper st. BP servos in Epping/Somerton. They were in a Ford Transit
i bought a power amp and speakers from these very two blokes. they told me the sytem sells for $4800 at harvey norman. i paid them $2200. cold it to cash converters for $3000 on the same day! i made an easy $1800.
I had a similar experience in lower North Shore Sydney years ago when I lived there. I was walking home in the early afternoon on a business day when a similar van pulls up and just touts me straight out. 'Did I want to buy some good home movie speaker system for cheap?" I was a fair bit sus. they claimed the order had fallen thru with the home owner they were supposed to install it all in & they didn't want to return it to their 'boss'. Thought I might wanna buy it? White van. 2 guys...Said no.
I like to lead these guys on. Say yes to the first sky high offer, then ask them if they have more. (They'll say they only have one at first, but if you want two, another one magically appears) Say you'll buy two if they take $50 off. Then, reach in your wallet and say "No way. I'm out of cash. Could you stay here while I go get some?" Then get in your car, drive out of sight, and sneak back in where you can see them. Park, chill, and place bets with your friends on how long they'll sit there.
i had these guys come up to me at a kfc car park trying to sell me a massive surround sound unit. told me they just needed to make there money back and tryed to trick me with numbers ect. but i was on to them and got it way cheeper than they asked. still have it after 6 years
my pal fell for a scam like this. ....he bought a vhs video player years ago.....all packaged and sealed ...got it home and it was nothing but a shell casing. ...like a display model. .!!! £90 down. ..irish gypos! !!!
They technically can't get in trouble bcuz all they have to say is they didn't know it was junk. And even if they did know what law are they breaking? I'm just curious.
they tried to get me the other day coming down La Paz orange county ca. Funny i was in a white work van, they were in a ford explorer. I told them to beat it!
tip if you see a white van or any color van that’s trying to sell you electronics for a good price and they’re trying to stop you while you’re driving called the cops get their license plate number very quickly because they are scammers they need to be thrown in jail
I work outside, we are magnet for this type of scam, I have seen this several times. They always come up so happy and nice and cannot wait to show the box. Yeap the cancelled order blah blah blah
A few years ago a scam artist tried to sell me a video camera right in front of the police station. He looked like an honest old man, he said he lost his wallet and that he had just bought the camera at Best buy with cash and needed money to get back home. He had an authentic receipt with the date, time and amount of purchase price that was $1100' ish dollars as well as matching numbers for the camera. I said no thanks. Later on that day a friend had bought the camera for $150.00 from that guy. Turns out the camera is worth $25.00 looks real but they sell them as Gag gifts.
Well i Bought A Home Theater and a Proyector (VisionMax HD-K4) both for $500 and the proyector works GREAT and the home theater sound is above good, by the way it was today on Houston, TX and they were in a Nissan Xterra, not in a white truck XD
It's a country wide scam.. my bro bought some from some dude at a gas station... Speakers were crap.. speaker boxes were 1/4 inch thick and sounded like bookshelf speakers..
I bought one of these off the back of a truck, but I was able to Jew them down to $200, I liked it, it worked perfectly!!! My ex wife still has it to this day, and I bought it almost ten years ago
in america, this scam usually involves speakers that the boss doesnt have room in the store for. both salesmen are traditionally jacked up on cocaine or meth while they circle parking lots screaming at random people how stupid they are for not purchasing speakers out of a van.
bizzarrogeorge
For real?
Selling meat by day and speakers by night
I’ve always seen them with Florida plates
That is pretty accurate lol
Very accurate. Always hopped up on something
Two guys in white truck came to me today and they were so convincing about there product, I started youtube just to see quality of this product and found this video. This video saved me. Thanks man.
You've done a great and very brave thing to record your experience and alert the public and the police of this scam! Many thanks :)
I love how the van is literally white.
Mi Da what do you love about it ?
Josue Reyes it adds to the "white van scam" we all heard about .
Mi Da
we changed for a red van last month
Literally ? Can it be figuratively white ?
I am literally white. Thank for noticing. HA

Man, this shit has been going on for like 30 years now. I remember getting approached by white van speaker guys back when i was a teenager
I bought some speakers from a white van back in 85 .I liked them rocked the fuck out
Van Halen 1984 on the tape deck
Once a van pulled up next to me and the guy said he had free candy...long story short, there was no candy :(
lmao brilliant
So was the "story" long or short?
But you still got to suck on something right?
Rick Sanchez wtf
fenomfangx epic 😂😂😂

jaydeeinbriz so how was it? was it trash or decent equipment?
Roy Reyes It was pretty shit. It worked... just not very good. I ended up boxing it back up and stored it for a few years before dumping it. Best money I ever not spent really.
I find it somewhat unlikely they loaded your car up with equipment prior to receiving payment....

HDMI 1080P ... HDMI is a port and 1080P is the resolution and your asking if it was DPL. I would already know something is wrong.

folks, its really simple, never buy home audio equipment from the back of a van. As a matter of fact NEVER buy anything from the back of van.
Younqin List and tamales
local vs on is a big difference in monies. local charges local prices. on line deals world wide so it's a lot cheaper.

This scam was big in London in the 90s. I remember being approached a lot as a kid by lads in white vans selling sound equipment.
Man when i hear white van it sounds like a kidnap VAN that has a sign says FREE WIFI 😂😂
I was first approached with this scam about 30 years ago. I was pretty young and almost fell for it. Still get it occasionally here in Canada.
They came by a gas station once in the bad part of town. Was trying to scam some thug and said they'd give it to him for $1800 the whole setup. Well, the guy said he'd take it all and pulled out a gun.
The young thug drove off into the sunset with some shitty equipment, a white van and their wallets.
good community service announcement, can only imagine the deplorable names they would have called you after you left
buy it all with fake money... heheheheh
Yea because counterfeiting is pure honesty in action right? Pretty sure you'd be rotting in prison while they only have a $50 fine for not getting the proper soliciting permits.
Erik Rossi who said you had to make it fam? you need help
Oh I forgot. Counterfeit cash is readily available at Walmart. Sorry. I forgot I was talking to someone who is dumber than a second coat of paint.
+Erik Rossi yow man why you gotta diss paint like that
Lol try smiling every once in awhile dude. It'll make you feel better!
I saw a guy take apart that same projector in another video. He found it in a dumpster. Piece of shit. It "works", but it's more like 600p... nowhere near 1080. It's all just cheap plastic inside.
I know i saw it too, he also had the "magnificent" Marc Vincent surround system which was the cheapest junk on the face of the earth
Go Dave

Mind if I ask what you paid?
It's all fun and games until it catches fire and burns your house down.
I love how when they are asked about the brand they just tell them it’s made in Germany so you know it’s good shit. Every time!
You held your ground well. Good for you.
i've had these guys approach me twice. Both times just said I just bought speakers. But if they harrass you always keep the local police station number in your cell phone.
we need to share this to everyone
they tried this on my earlier today and i almost gave them my $180, good thing I dont really like the product!
they're here in Maryland now too!
dont worry about the plates. the stuff is not stolen. while still being a scam. theh arent stolen. they pay for them. and then sell them at a premium
The EXACT same thing happened to me in Toronto Canada, I'm talking about identical situation same product some reason
“I’m Trevor, that’s Corey “
The same type of scam happens in little old Nova Scotia, Canada. I've seen them (not these specific guys) selling their shit in the parking lots all over.
I have had these guys hit me up twice in my lifetime in the United States at big box stores selling fake crap. I thinks it’s crazy how many do this!
man this happen here in canada by the beer store. guy came up in an nice suv with rims. told me its worth 5k for the projector offered it to me for 100 bucks. but then you read the box and it has a gps attached to it. alll they gotta do is say it was stolen track it down and then they get to sell it again! said his boss over stocked and would sell it him self so they were sellin it
Damn I've been using speakers that I obtained this way.
"you could hook up you laptop and fuck shit up."😂😂😂
if the margin of the "discount" was not so large, it may have been a bit more convincing
if it sounds too good to be true ,it's dodgy!
I know all the good brands , last time I saw some of these bums I told them I knew the box was worth more than what was inside of it.
Bad scam.
i saw white van sellers about 6 months ago and bought a 7.1 surround sound off them for $400, they were genuine Dali Concepts and rrp for over $2000, tbh i like white vans :D
I'm also in Victoria and I met them at Cooper st.
Same stuff happens here (UK) but people selling "top quality" kitchen knife sets, "German" made - brand is "Kaiserbach". Don't touch them!
Park, chill, and place bets with your friends on how long they'll sit there.
i had these guys come up to me at a kfc car park trying to sell me a massive surround sound unit. told me they just needed to make there money back and tryed to trick me with numbers ect. but i was on to them and got it way cheeper than they asked. still have it after 6 years
just clicked this video and UA-cam has finally given me the new player lol
That was a cracking price for that deal, he shoulda shook their hands and got the deal done.... what a fool!
HAHA Australians scamming another Australians .... What is the world coming to??? LOL...
lmfao!
+TDMThaya Yeah they should have have scammed Irish people than it would've been acceptable. Dumb ass. -_-
+Christopher Gonzalez a0a0
TDMThaya you can't cant even spell dipshit
I saw something similar in a bunnings carpark about 6 months ago .
my pal fell for a scam like this. ....he bought a vhs video player years ago.....all packaged and sealed ...got it home and it was nothing but a shell casing. ...like a display model. .!!! £90 down. ..irish gypos! !!!
I dont get it!? I mean nothing bad here but If you buy stuff on street out of some guys van you know what to expect! 5 years warranty is not for sure!
Any item with a RRP label on should start every alarm bell in even the dumbest persons head ringing... lol.
Although I don't advocating sneaky filming... good on you for catching this on film and not falling for this.
In which city was this video recorded??
Maybe they should go with, blue van?
How is this a scam? What would happen if you actually bought from them?
They technically can't get in trouble bcuz all they have to say is they didn't know it was junk. And even if they did know what law are they breaking? I'm just curious.
they tried to get me the other day coming down La Paz orange county ca. Funny i was in a white work van, they were in a ford explorer. I told them to beat it!
tip if you see a white van or any color van that’s trying to sell you electronics for a good price and they’re trying to stop you while you’re driving called the cops get their license plate number very quickly because they are scammers they need to be thrown in jail
This scam is in Houston and they opened the box for me when I insisted. Wanted 300 took 125 which is all I was willing to throw down. Still got me.
it's be so easy to just Google the actual price or the no name brand
This happened to me in South Pasadena at. A gas station. He tried selling me similar stuff ! Crazy
