@DrJoyDeGruy my wife and I own 160ac of land and we are self sufficient with solar, our own water source and we’re growing our own food. we’ve been try to get family to get away from their toxic environments and come to a protected area. When I explain to them what we are trying to do for us and them they say that’s great but no one is get off their buts to come. This baffles me to no end. My land is in a town that only has 2 black folks, myself and my wife. There are some liberal whites and some conservative whites ( trump supporters). No one has been hostile towards me yet but I’m armed everyday this is an open carry area so they may be afraid to try me.
Jerome Garner the trade off is not renting, being on your own land, being self sufficient, not worrying if you kids are safe or your significant other is. If there is something we need we make it happen.
RCtopics not what I meant at all, it seemed as though you were saying that you were inviting people and no one responded so I was asking what were you asking in return for being on your land
Jerome Garner ok, we offered to family and select friends to live there for free all they had to do was help keep the land safe I’ll provide the training, help with growing food if they want to have organic healthy food.
@Luke Cage Wow! I didn't mean to hurt anybody's feelings. I just mention a important ancestor. The topic is the illusion of inclusion. I read "Two Nations" back in the early 00's. I never forgot the lessens in this book. I am a HUGE fan of Dr. DeGruy's. As a Black, social worker in Pittsburgh, PA, I have found that the racism in this town in DEEPLY ingrained and how it informs the culture of my town.
Thank you for your presence. I have experienced racism in the Pittsburgh, PA area just as recently as 2017 and it was scary being harassed by all white males yell n****r repeatedly. It is still not safe in some American towns. I was passing thru doing business driving semi truck.
Education. As a black man, I tell people my role isn't to teach the white person about racism. They need to grow up. I say: read a book or have a black person as a friend. That said, I wake up everyday with a mission of fighting this stupidity whenever it pops up. You can call it my ptsd. My friends know better now, after George Floyd. I'm educating them of what "whiteness" means and how race is an invented concept (colorism and featurism is idiotic). It's amazing they've come to agree, can stay. Those who don't, don't want to learn, can move on. All of these people think they knew everything, but have so little understanding of economics, history and its consequences.
Time would be much better spent teaching your own prople about racism and their cultural history. Outside groups created racism and they steadily working towards their agenda. What are blacks doing worrying about what outside groups do or don't understand?

In 2005 I was a first year apprentice and the journeyman I was working with hit me with a similar Master/Slave analogy when teaching me how to do the installation. I was caught off guard too and offended by the way in which he presented it. I was offended by the inflections used to explain the purpose and function. I’m glad you kept your cool Sis! 🙏🏾
I went to a Electrician Apprentice course and they used _”Master”_ and _”Slave”_ identifiers for certain electrical parts. I notice that in the blue collared trades, the officials always seem to find a way to sneak stupid insults into the training programs. It’s as if they think that people in those tradecrafts are too dumb to pick up on it.🤨

1000% I think Black people in this country are trauma bonded to white folks. It is the sort of connection that happens with repeated abuse that’s not always physical and I’m gonna say it is abuse. we are still being traumatized this very day every time a black person on our black person is killed by the police or most recently that monster Daniel Penny, who killed Jordan Neely, it’s traumatic for us, particularly when those killers are protected, and in the case of Daniel Penny celebrated. That is a collective trauma inducing event
Thank you for sharing the importance of kindness and caring as human beings. In an intolerable world we’re losing that value. The whole “master and slave” oven was a real eye opener! We have ovens like this in my kitchen and I never knew this was the description! I can only imagine the conversation this description would bring in white setting. Those American 🇺🇸 appliance companies knew what they were doing! Frigidaire….🙄 I can only imagine what the white lady electrician’s response was like with white home owners. For me, integration has been a mixed bag. I lived in a predominantly white neighborhood as a kid and I remember the neighbors always wanting to know what my dad (he’s a retired engineer) did for a living to afford the new boat, and the new cars we had! My father went to work wearing a suit and tie each day, which made them wonder even more. I had neighbors asking me questions about my father every time I played with their kids. After telling my parents, they told me to say my dad just goes to work like everyone else! 😂
We ARE one species. We also have obvious differences based on culture, ethnic background, evolution, history and for some reason many people pretend as if none of that matters.
That Black people have a tremendous physical advantage, and when education is a priority intellectual advantage as well look up nine series African DNA.
Integration is transcendental. My spirits soar in and out of faces, bodies, through the radio, through another person's thoughts and voice. We are all here. We are all present. We are conscious and we dream. I love your show.
I have noticed that that illusion of inclusion viz a viz integration is first of all a media phenomena. You see it on movies and TV shows but it's largely iillusion.

Yes, absolutely. The media is a myth factory. The predominant ways that our people are being indoctrinated with hateful antiblack propaganda is through the media and the education system. Without our mass consumption of these two factor we could be doing a lot better.
Greetings to you both. Thank you for always showing up and reminding us what we are is more important than what they say we are. I appreciate my healing Wednesday's with you both. Dr. Joy, you look absolutely amazingly regal. Bermuda as you know is the majority-black island and very very segregated. Haven grown-up military but after dad was killed in Vietnam my mom chose to bring four children ages 16-7 years of age to Greenboro NC where my dad had bought our home. So, attending A&T State University was the best most important step after how we had been raised around the world. Each summer we would return to the island with my mom's parents there were 13 grandchildren in the same house, on a BLACK Island. It was a beautiful balancing act when we were NOT on island. Yes, there is a place in Shashamoni Ethiopia, that the Emperor had given to any who want to return to Afrika from the diaspora. Thank you again for the thumbs up for the week.
Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome - I look to you for realism and cutting-edge analysis of " white think ". You look fantastic; don't ever stop teaching. Props to you; peace and respect.
I think it should be more clearly explained that one of the primary results of segregation is it made it easier to target black people with destructive policy/practices. In the book Color of Law the author talks about how once you sectioned black people off into specific areas it opened the door for other racist policies. You can have unequal funding for schools because of separate school districts, black areas were zoned industrial so you have factories in close proximity exposing them to more pollution and a myriad of other issues. The analogy of "The white man's ice is colder" is too harsh on blacks when you have this situation. When as a group you are stuck with all this failure then yes their "ice is colder" because they have all the resources and policies to make it so, not because we as a people are inherently inferior or feel we are.
they will always try to target never trying to interfere and sabotage whatever we have going on, but we have to be smarter than that. There was also power and numbers we need to start making more connections with Black people in the diaspora and above all else Black people in Africa. Africa has the resources that every other country depends on. We need in a word leverage. We have none here in America. We have to start collaborating with African countries join a African organization try to gain citizenship in one of the countries that makes it possible for African-Americans. This may sound unattainable, but a mini African countries are encouraging African-Americans to apply for full citizenship to start businesses there we need a much larger coalition Based on the Black people who’ve been shot dead by their white neighbors recently living amongst them is not a good option
Really enjoyed watching this video, particularly the Dr's observation of her pride in the kindness of her children. I agree. What we are presented with in America about what gives or adds to a person's value is contingent upon achieving what descendents of Europe have convinced us is required to establish our existence as valid, worthy even, and that's is not true. Even though the "American Dream" gives many children fodder for how they should live, it is limiting belief. Amplifying the effort and reward that comes from kindness is a truly defining trait. Thank you again for sharing your conversation.

All one ( a person) has to do is look and not want to be blinded to see massive difference, from morality to physicality.

It's successfully a mixed culture when the communication stays integrated in mutual respect. Not taking advantage of each other in ways where only one side benefits
Integration was not the goal. Desegregation was. The ability for black people to freely go anywhere they want or need to go. It's hard to imagine now. It was a real thing then.
Thank you for a great podcast. Would you be so kind as to leave a booklist in the description box. I am interested in reading your suggested books. Thank you ! 😊
It's so irritating that we so often take extra time in our discussions to assure non black people that we believe in all humanities and there was only one race and there's no real differences between people. Tell that to the ones crushing and killing us. Whether it's cultural, historical, or mere "superficial" difference in features, hair, skin tone, non atrophied pineal gland, physique...you get the picture? Example if It wasn't important that the figure of Jesus was black or white, there wouldn't be such a monstrous worldwide centuries long effort to make sure he's portrayed otherwise. If there isn't significance difference between the so called races then why are black people continually persecuted for it, and why are WE the ones always apologizing for it ?
Dr Joy I appreciate so much your comment that added relevence to the topic. We do not have to move away from black people because we build nice homes. I'm purchasing land in a black area. I love Dr. Joy, but I must say, it is sometimes difficult for me to watch some all women panels as they just talk over each other the entire time. This was a very balanced discussion and I enjoyed it.
Why are black people the only group who are obsess, desire, and advocate for integration.and interracial marriage. Our ancestors, under segregation, thrived, even after many black communities were destroyed by anti-black racism. Sixty years ago there were more thriving black communities with a variety of businesses, clubs, schools and hospitals, etc. But within the past fifty years, integration has slowly eroded the powerful resolve we had to maintain our own.
I am in IT (Help Desk) There was a time when connected systems had the "Master/Slave" verbiage. However, this has changed (Because it does not properly convey the relationship) It is called now "Server/Client" I could always tell when I have an arsehole, they would INSIST on calling it master/slave, even if I correct them, it was disgusting.
I love Dr DeGruy, she is always on point, and funny while talking about subjects that are anything but funny. They use to say, if you didn't laugh you would most definitely cry about how ugly our history has been. The beauty we did have in our history was stolen, and white washed to look as if it were white people. I.E. White Jesus, white Moses, white Cleopatra, that's just to name a few. The entire Bible is black history, people in Africa, (African's) looking white in the movies. Yep, when ever our ancestors picked themselves up by their boot straps, and built an entire town, on more than one occasion, envious where's have made up a reason to burn it, all of it down. God help us.
BLACK & WHITE are colours not person's/ppl And that book that is called the BIBLE which has been tampered with has nothing to do with not a continent but section/area that is being called AFRICA today nor the ppl
Atlanta Native here. Although GA seems to be a global "mecca" for many different groups, I've realized how the old systems which were not successfully dismantled have continued to spoil generational wealth of affluent Black communities. Once we become more shamelessly vigilant about protecting our gains from destruction (answer to @11:28 mark) We will be able to maintain for future generations to come. There are solutions to these problems

And SADLY, w/ a Black Mayor (Kasim Reed) here in Atlanta, Ga, there were Several Black "HomeOwners" who had their HOMES (already paid for) TAKEN by the City of Atlanta under "Eminent Domain"!!! They went to Court, w/o informing the Owners and had the DEEDS Changed to "Atlanta...." as an Owner on the Deeds! This was done in 2019!
When I heard Bahia mention Fisk, I let out a huge whoop and broke into the alma mater! I spent my freshman year at Fisk. This is an excellent conversation. Thank you!
I love when we (African Americans) consciously choose to build up our own culture. It is much less frustrating when we cease to concern ourselves with the idea of inclusion ( the exception being when government grants and other free monies are made available -- which is our cue to be included). Other than the money piece, we are quite capable of doing for ourselves.

It's about control. The majority want to be able decide where we live. They feel comfortable only when we live in a area that is low cost, low value, heavy police presence and businesses are not black owned.

When I explain to them what we are trying to do for us and them they say that’s great but no one is get off their buts to come. This baffles me to no end.
It's not our job to teach them anything.
Time would be much better spent teaching your own prople about racism and their cultural history. Outside groups created racism and they steadily working towards their agenda. What are blacks doing worrying about what outside groups do or don't understand?

Big facts
I sometimes think I need to start being horrid back to people because there are times I continually give and what I get back is deplorable. However, my natural being isn’t inclined in that way and you give me hope. Thank you Dr Joy and Bahia 💜🖤💜

The whole “master and slave” oven was a real eye opener! We have ovens like this in my kitchen and I never knew this was the description! I can only imagine the conversation this description would bring in white setting. Those American 🇺🇸 appliance companies knew what they were doing! Frigidaire….🙄
I can only imagine what the white lady electrician’s response was like with white home owners.
We are not one species. You can look at us and tell that. You can also look at our behaviors and tell we're not the same.
We ARE one species. We also have obvious differences based on culture, ethnic background, evolution, history and for some reason many people pretend as if none of that matters.
Yep. And just study genetics. They are pushing the "WE ARE ONE AGENDA" like they did integration to save them but it won't work this time.

WHAT how did I not know about this channel. Here now, got my notebook out and ears open
Dr. DeGruy I so enjoyed this discussion; I shared it on all my social media groups. Packed with wonderful information, humor and truth. Thank You.
This may sound unattainable, but a mini African countries are encouraging African-Americans to apply for full citizenship to start businesses there we need a much larger coalition
Based on the Black people who’ve been shot dead by their white neighbors recently living amongst them is not a good option
Amazing discussion and book selection, thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much for doing this and doing so much work for the betterment of all of us, love you both
Awesome conversation. Great topic and great list of books to catch-up on🤨
Really enjoyed watching this video, particularly the Dr's observation of her pride in the kindness of her children.

Why are black people the only group who are obsess, desire, and advocate for integration.and interracial marriage. Our ancestors, under segregation, thrived, even after many black communities were destroyed by anti-black racism. Sixty years ago there were more thriving black communities with a variety of businesses, clubs, schools and hospitals, etc. But within the past fifty years, integration has slowly eroded the powerful resolve we had to maintain our own.
Thank you Ladies this is very informative while being laid back.
