David Gilmour and the Fender Custom Shop are extremely proud to release one of the most iconic and highly-anticipated musical instruments of the past fifty years, the Fender Custom Shop David Gilmour Signature Series Stratocaster, based on David's famous "Black Strat" guitar. A cornerstone of Pink Floyd's revolutionary and incomparable sound, Gilmour's Black Strat is featured extensively on The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, The Wall and his critically-acclaimed 2006 solo effort, On An Island.
The Fender Custom Shop worked hand-in-hand with David and his longstanding guitar technician, Phil Taylor, to create his signature model, a reproduction of the Black Strat -- complete with its unmistakable look, sound and feel. Featuring a Black (Black over Three-color Sunburst alder body for Relic finishes) with black pickguard, one-piece maple neck, custom pickups, and David's now-famous electronics and shortened vintage tremolo arm, the David Gilmour Signature Series Stratocaster is as beautiful, powerful and idiosyncratic as David's playing.
Additionally, David's signature guitar comes with a custom case, Evidence Audio™ high-end guitar cable, David's Live in Gdansk three-disc live CD and DVD package, and a copy of Phil Taylor's The Black Strat book.

Know a guy who made his own one. Quality parts and a loaded pick guard, all for under £650... And it sounds awesome.
I thought for sure that strat would light on fire when he started playing Miley Cyrus on it - Dear God.

That bridge neck combo must be what allows Gilmour to get clearing/cutting sounding solos but with the neck tone mixed in there. When I finally get a Strat I'm gonna a look into that...

I bought a MIM Guitar Center FSR. Basically the affordable gilmour strat with ceramic pups. I hope to place some alnicos voiced close to his. But honestly I seem to get pretty close to his tones by the comments in my videos. I suppose its not purposely as it just seems we share a certain melodic presence....I love the style.

The strange thing about these replicas is that the replicate the guitar in the final stage of its life. The guitar was nothing like this while the legendary music was being made....this stands true for all of them.
If you ever get the opportunity, you should do the Fender Visitor Center and Factory tour in Corona,California. I did it a few weeks ago and it changed my life.

I just bought a Gilmour pickup set....;and want to know ( as a starting point ), if you could give me the distance "polepieces-strings (depressed at last fret ) for each pup, on a Fender Gilmour CS strat, you have ? in /64 inch please....it would be amazing for me if you could take a little time to give me the exact dsistance for each pickup, bass and trebble side....best regards from France, gaëtan
This is mainly for die hard pink floyd/ david gilmour fans because you can build one of these for around $1500.

you dont always have to buy specially made guitars from shops like this or custom shops , there are people in the country who will hand make better quality and more authentic guitars to exactly what you want , a lot of custom shops tell you stuff but omit important details like the kind of wood used and where the wood was sourced from etc , the quality of the build and wood is i believe essential
Besides wood and type of finish which is so important all the hardware and the types of metals that where used make a huge difference in tone. Don't forget the strat has a ton of hardware and combined drastically can make or break your sound, along with pickups. Those vintage pickups and tremolo systems where made from metals that are not the same at all found in the new Fender Tremolo systems which they use on this guitar as well.
This Gilmour model is just for the look. the rest of the parts are all standard Fender garbage and they charge a ton of money for it.
I guess its the nostalgia more then the actual tone of the guitar.
As long as there are people willing to shell out tons of money for replicas, Huge companies will take total advantage using all the right buzz words that the hipster publicity people pitch to make money for the corporates LOL
you would have to either be crazy rich or just a super fan to want something like this. Most strats pretty much sound basically the same with the same pickup configurations. But I love a maple neck strat no matter what year or type
I could never afford one of these, so I did what I thought was the next best thing. I build my own. Using a Warmoth body and neck, I got as close to this icon of a guitar as I could. But it is what this guitar would have looked like when it left the factory, not after all of Gilmour's modifications. But it is my baby, and it sounds as well as it looks. But I wish I could get the real deal!

I know very little about electric guitars, but shouldn't there be a tremelo arm on this instrument?
Will fender update the relic to match any further wear to the original that has happened since the templates for these unlimited copies were first made? If not, these £3,000 guitars aren't copies,they just look like what the original used to look like years ago. Buy the pickups and fit them to any Strat and it will sound the same for only a few hundred pounds.

Personally I would have preferred it with the rosewood neck as it was at the time of Dark Side of The Moon.

If you're like me, and just MUST have something similar... Check out the Squier Vintage Modified 70's Strat in black. 250 bucks is a lot easier to swallow than 4K. Looks nice, too.

That's one of the worst songs ever and he's playing it on one of the coolest most bad ass guitars ever. Playing shitty hip hop on a guitar used for the great Pink Floyd just doesn't even go at all. Don't get fooled about putting a neck engagement switch on your strat, even if it's called the Gilmour switch, Dave never used that anywhere and he even stated that.

This is a guitar for dreamers. You can spend £1M and you still won't BE David Gilmour. Sounds like a Strat. What is the big deal? Why does it cost £4000? Get yourself a Black MIM Strat with a maple neck, then buy the correct pick ups and shortened trem arm. And after all that, you will most probably still have £3500 in you pocket..!!

can get the same sound with Mex Strat and same pickups.... saved a tonne of cash and does not look hacked to death.

I have played this guitar before. It looks like it was run over by a truck. Maybe its just me but I don't get the whole relic thing. I'd rather just get a deluxe strat and switch out the pickups.

No with the little switch you can Switch the Bridge pickup to a humbucker!
+brusekitt Nope. The bridge pickup is a single coil pickup. There is no way just one single coil pickup to work as a humbucker (double coil). The switch makes the bridge and the neck pickups activate, so it enters in humbucking mode because two single coils pickups are working at the same time
brusekitt not sure about that but when he had a humbucker in it the switch was wired to turn in on. The humbucker was in the middle position though.
I think kind of a ashamed from someone who does not obviously know Gilmour's sound.

Its an expensive piece of wood. I have my own 94 Strat and gear that sounds me, not Gilmour, But me playing him. If I were rich I might buy the gear, but it does not take that. its in the soul. Finger movements, vibrato, etc.

Its an incredible guitar but the price is not. You can buy a mex standard/am standard strat and just buy the pickups, toggle switch and a shortened trem arm. There you go

I don't mean to offend but why would anyone care about the guitar finish from past equipment on it? If it's got the same wood, dimensions, pups and bridge then it's good to go! I think the feel and tone are what really matter here.
Authenticity. Otherwise just stick Gilmour pups on any Strat and you're good to go.

fender will spend time on the Gilmour relic, the George Harrison relic but completely botch the cobain relic. they didn't even try to get that guitar accurate at all.

i dont understand the relic signature guitar with some other players scratches and dings on it...why would anybody want a copy of somebody else.s set up be it david gilmour or anybody else lets face it your never going to be gilmour are you...and you need to re~mortgage your house to be able to buy it......create your own sound and let your own instrument age along with you after all thats what david gilmour has done...i dont doubt its a nice instrument but it should be considering the price....but each to there own.....but i think and as fender themselves say......MAKE YOUR OWN HISTORY....

Why is he "rocking" the bridge instead of using the actual tremolo? This guitar comes with a custom arm that's shorter than usual, allowing you to palm it and still keep your pick right over the strings. It's one of the really "custom" features on this guitar and he doesn't even screw it in or mention it. Lame Demo.
Its a music store. It was probably off the wall with everything else still in the packaging. Most big stores dont leave the trems on the display guitars to keep them from being stolen
