This build took 18 labor hours to complete! The end result was a very authentic vintage feeling late 60's strat with a really authentic Gilmour tone and versatility provided by the mini toggle switch and pickup combo. Was hoping the “play test” was going to be the final solo. That was a super cool build, and a very well timed video.
Rory Galagher strat replica would be legendary!
IMO it would be unnecessary, because there already are lots of replicas and even custom shop models of it. Guitars like Frusciante Strat or Billie Joe's "Blue" etc. are much better to make videos since you can't find good replicas of them

Had the privilege of seeing Mr. G himself perform that Comfortably Numb solo on Blackie backlit by a half halo projected around him as he was standing on the Wall at the London Pink Floyd Wall concerts at Earl's Court in 1980. Not a bad rendition by MCG here !
That looked to me like he played along, but the audio was still Gilmour.
Blackie was Clapton's name for his guitar m8, believe the only named guitar DG had was a Tele called the Workman

@@neilaspin008 So your saying when he played the second solo of Comfortably Numb in this video that what your hearing is David Gilmour and not the guy that built the guitar. If that's what your saying no offense but you surely need to either get your hearing checked or go listen to The Wall studio album Comfortably Numb a few times because what you hear in this video is 100% the guy that built the guitar and Not David Gilmour. I have listened to the studio track of Comfortably Numb probably over a thousand times changing, adjusting, and fine tuning my guitar playing to sound closer to Gilmour, and I can Guarantee you that what your hearing on that second solo is not David Gilmour. The only time you start hearing David Gilmour's playing is at the end at about the 9:12 mark.

Thanks for sharing your passion....I really dig recreating masterpieces like this. I have made several my self from other artists and they are incredibly satisfying to play. I found I can make these instruments for a fraction of what Fender is asking, and in the end they are better. Absolutely no compromises, and the attention to set up boarders on total perfection. Its an inspiration to work on and create.

Amanda Brothers Supposedly, Hendrix never had it. It was just some story made up by Frank.
Duncan's Vlogs and Challenges it was given to him by one of jimis roadies. It wasn’t anything jimi played just something they had laying around for parts. And that mirror puck guard dweezil put on it later is hideous!
Jimi never played the guitar Zappa has.
@@taylorgrant23 I much preferred it with the tortoiseshell pickguard, so much so that I built my own replica of it. Nowhere near the quality of these one though!

Thank you for all of the detail. This is an amazing build to watch and exactly the information I needed. I'm just building the loaded pickguard for now. The Fender Fat 50's neck pup is getting nearly impossible to find by itself. I wish Fender still sold their pick-ups individually like they used to. Ended up finding a Fender 59 (I hope. If the Ebay gods have smiled) instead until I can get the Fat 50. It's described as being wound with the same type of wire that I could see and has a similar impedance range. Won't sound the same, but it should be close enough for my goofy ass. I already have the SSL-5 and the Custom Shop 69 mid. Now, I'm debating on whether or not to duplicate the wired-in toggle or just get the Obsidian pre-wired kit. I'm not a purist, I'm just trying for a similar sound in a DIY. Thanks again.
