Very interesting Old Rusty. I was intrigued by several of your techniques but when you attached the handles to the blade I was amazed to see you keep the integrity of the knife by not slathering everything in epoxy and clamping like so many artisans do. I liked the quality and craftmanship of measuring and counter-sinking the Chicago rivets. They look like they will last a life-time. I also noted a very handsome dog in one of your shots found elsewhere on your site. A dog guy is okay in my books! Kudos
I just completed one of these for a friend's mom. It was wonderful to see how you work on the knife and scales. I learned a lot and hope to find another old rusty.
That turned out incredible, really good work! I love those Shinto rasps for handle profiling, so much better to work with. Need to get myself one of those mini anvils as well, they’re great! 👏
Nice job. Please identify in future vids the liquids used (vinegar and ?(for the scales) in this vid) and also the grit progression during polishing. Also, for anyone wondering the fasteners OP made are readily available and are know as 'corby bolts'.
I've watched 3 of your videos in a row and I must say... you're fuckin good brother!!! I know it's not much but you got yourself a new subscriber!!! Now we just need some new videos!!!
Hey! I'm so sorry if this has been answered in other videos. Can you briefly explain the mason jar process? What is the liquid, perhaps how long is it resting in the jar? This is amazing and I'm going down a rabbit hole haha. I want to restore my family's 12" knife that looks like this one with the rust! Great work!
Awesome videos you make man!! I have a question, where do you get all these old knives ect from? I would love to find a old Japanese blade and try to restore it
(Google Translate) Excellent work. Your wisdom on the subject and your skill is wonderful. I would like to know what products you used, for the blade and for the handle. I mean liquids and products. Thank you so much!!!
Nice video and a beautiful result. To me it appeared you impregnated the wood for the handle by a vacuum process. With what substance did you impregnate the wood? Was it an oil or something else?
Hi, thanks for the review. This is a special compound for curing wood and not only wood. It penetrates very deeply into the pores and becomes fall resistant when heated to 90 degrees Celsius.

Should have used the original wood. Just saying. This looks identical to Japanese knife vid. Yawn. It looks like you are more interested in making handles than restoring knives.
One of the best Japanese knife restoration videos I've seen.
Really brought it back to life. Only really three tools needed in the kitchen,
A sharp, good quality knife and your two hands.
A beautiful knife is in the making. You are a Genius.
Very nice, glad I saw this, well done, am subscribed now. Thanks
Outstanding work absolutely gorgeous and ready for a few more years
Came out nicely!
Excellent job, especially on the handle.
Beautiful knife restoration. I love the handle! What kind of wood is it? Is it from a Japanese tree?
Love these videos so much! Beautiful work.
Beautiful job love the handle

Fantastic!! Great work!!!
Outstanding video. Thanks.
Bravo, absolument magnifique 😊
Frighteningly sharp. Fabulous turnaround on one that was unusable
Beautiful restoration, you paid homage to it my friend! That’s a stunning grain in the wood too. 👍👏🙏
Good job there buddy..nice restoration.
when I saw the tiny anvil at 3:05, all I could think of is "who's a big boy? yes you are!"
that handle was fantastic

I'm glad I was able to be useful.
Jealous. I've been trying to find an older piece to work on, but I never come across this stuff. I just keep working on new stuff.
Good very good 👏👏🌹🍀🌹
Absolutely beautiful work. Thanks for sharing this with us.

Nicely done.😊
Fabuloso
cute & sharp ...
Great work. Probably tone down those sharp and loud knife sharpening sounds next time, because it really makes the hair stand up on my back 😶🌫
Damn!! Well done lad!! Subbed!
Nice !

Thanks for the good advice. Special thanks for the "corby bolts" I was embarrassed to not know what they are called.

try google cactus juice stabilizing resin
What was that green stuff you were polishing the blade with?
Can you share where you purchased the knife.
Where did you get that sandpaper sanding block? I've been looking for something like this for a long time.
What is the wood you use on the handles .
This is a product of Yoshizane Ltd., a kitchen knife specialty store located in Kameido, Koto-ku, Tokyo.
Thanks for the interesting information.
Nice restoration, but aren't Japanese knives of that shape/length only supposed to have one bevel? Looks like you but 2 on.

What kind of sand paper holder is that?
Printed on a 3d printer. The model can be found here- www.thingiverse.com/thing:2846241
Beautifully made! How much would you charge for a knife like that ?
where do you find all these knives
Auctions and flea markets :)
Where do you get the knifes?
I usually look at auctions or flea markets. This knife and about 15 other knives were successfully won in a wholesale auction.
What kind of wood is that?
Betula pendula var. carelica
Might want to have the blade pointing down in the vise next time.
👍🇧🇷
vinegar ?
Yes
@@OldRusty why? I've seen it done before but no explanation.
@@JohnDoe-zw8vx Vinegar is good for softening rust. I tried to remove the rust immediately by mechanical means, but it's much easier with vinegar.
@Old Rusty thank you @ John Doe soak overnight the rust just fell off of a high carbon blade
@@budgreenjeans my mistake. I thought it was vinegar the wood was vacuum sealed with and then baked. That process (and liquid) are my confusion.

Erotically sharp! When steel quality and honing angle join at the sweet spot to make a superb blade.

Asian knifes are ugly, can't they come up with better shapes
that was pretty sick !!!
