    Thanks for the reply. Yes, some of the battery manufacturers and articles on CandlePowerForums recommend not storing 18650's at >40% charge to extend longevity... but a 40% charge won't help much when you need them in the dark on high power out on the water. I couldn't find any practical info on how badly it really effects life if stored full or mostly charged. Your answer was exactly what I needed... I'll keep my spares charged. Thanks again and looking forward to more reviews!

    Thank you! I'm glad that you enjoyed it. The TK75 is as you described and the tint seems to be better than the current olight and foursevens lights. Nitecore's tints have been a bit on the cool side depending on sample.

    It's a home build 300mw red. I didn't know about the nyogel, thanks for passing the info along!
    Petroleum products tent to swell the o-rings ...so just be aware.
    I'll see what I can do for you guys on the battery front. I'll have to give some thought to presenting it to those who are new to it. Thanks for the feedback!

    This is a great review; you present the product in a professional way that's easy to follow and enjoyable to watch. I have a Fenix LD40, I might be upgrading to the TK75, soon. I prefer a mix of good throw with a slightly floody hotspot along with maximum spill. I basically want a balanced beam, which is what the TK75 seems to offer. The TK75 also seems a bit more neutral in tint than other triple XML lights, so overall it matches my preferences.

    Thank you! I'd have to know what they're referencing when 'they' say not to store them charged. If this is about battery life span, you can pretty much ignore the suggestion. In practical terms the difference between storing them charged vs. uncharged is a matter of weeks over the period of years. It's insignificant compared to the necessity of having charged cells at the ready for the reasons of safety or even convenience. Or store them at 90% then & have solar,12V, or 110V charger ready. :)

    it's not the battery size that's associated with LSD, it's the chemistry. The 18650s we're talking about are li-ion which is LSD. li-ion comes in 18650 17670 14500 26650 etc.

    Thanks for another great review video! Thanks to your reviews I got the TK75 and love it!
    Question on carrying spare batteries. I will be taking the TK75 on the boat and occasionally for extended cruises. I planned to charge up a spare set of the Orbtronics 3400mah batteries that I use and keep in the boat tool box for spares, but I have read do not store these batteries fully charged. An option would be the battery extender tube but don't want the extra size. Thoughts on carrying spares?

    I would suspect a cell issue first. Those cells should be just fine as far as discharge rate and capacity, however, if there are one or more cells that are faulty, that could be cause your problem. To diagnose, get a know good set of cells and see of the problems goes away. If it doesn't, you'll know the light has a problem. The EAGTAC 3400, Redilast 3400, or Panasonic 3400s, are all great cells. Google to find sellers but I use the EAGTACs from Going Gear.

    I have damaged several flashlight by dropping them bezel first. Stainless steel bezel is a really good feature, in my opinion aswell.

  • @Patriot36
    @Patriot36  12 років тому

    The ARBL2s are decent quality cells however if you have one or more that's not performing properly it might not be able to sustain turbo mode. Since Fenix specifically recommends that cell (any good quality 2600mah or higher cell should work) I would contact fenix. If you don't feel like doing that, purcahase some Redilast, EAGTAC, Callie's Kustoms or Panasonic 3400mah. Again, yours should work but one or more cells might have an issue.

  • @canoeshoe

    I'm actually considering getting some AMPMax 3400mah18650 and the TK75. I was hesitant in case of an emergency where I would not be able to find 18650's laying around. So even though, I'll get the TK75, i'll still keep the TK41. I couldn't find any solid data on whether 18650 are inherently LSD batteries though.

    Ok the best way to answer is with an analogy. It's like asking why Peterbilt trucks don't use lawnmower engines to power their semi-tractor trailers. The answer: Because lawnmower engines don't have sufficient power or capacity to generate the workload required by the tractor's mission. Likewise, several AA's might be able to drive a single XL-M LED to spec, but not an array of them. In other words you shouldn't put a 1 gal fuel tank on a Formula1 car. It might work but it won't last long.

    What laser light was that?
    It is unlikely that your Nyogel has silicone in it; silicone uses moisture to work / ad-hear thus promoting corrosion. CPF reviews has some info..."silica thickened, synthetic hydrocarbon grease". Sounds like awesome stuff! I'm sure vasaline will work for the rest of us with non $1000 lights.
    Thanks for the video review Patriot36; you defiantly had to work to get this one out!

    In short, there's no free lunch. That is to say, there's a reason why cheap lights are cheap. Enthusiasts are quick to recognize the best lights regardless of price, as well as the best lights for the money. Some DONT pass muster. Others are slight compromises but acceptable at the given price point. I can't point you to a quality triple under $100 however there are sales, like the TM11 that were selling under $160 or the thrunight TN30 that are great lights for the price. Check CPF too.

    Also what in your opinion are some of the best value triple xm-l lights right now... aka around 100 dollars. I think I remember seeing a few reviews of "cheaper" multi xm-l lights. What are your opinion of those? I have a E50 which puts out close to 800 lumens, but would like a cheap but good quality way to get into the ~2000 lumen range. So probably 4 18650 light that is.

    It's a great light but I probably wont be doing a review on that particular light. In short, it's the world's floodiest triple xm-l, in the triple or quad 18650 class. While unique, it's doesn't really interest me due to it's lack of throw, falling in well behind the TM11.

  • @tinyphantazma
    @tinyphantazma 12 років тому

    • @Patriot36

    Hi there! I bought my TK75 last week along with the fenix 18650 ARBL2 I am aware of the battery specifications of the TK75 but even on a fully charge? The TK75 won't stay on a turbo mode for a minute specially if left cold in the car during this season, that is one thing I have noticed about the flashlight. What battery brand can you suggest and where can I buy them and what seems to be the problem with my TK75? It was working fine the 1st day after I fully charged the new batteries from fenix

  • @canoeshoe

    yea, I was hoping they'll be as good in discharge rate as eneloops.

  • @martinaee
    @martinaee 12 років тому

    The TK41 uses 8 aa's to output around 800 lumens from 1 xm-l emitter....
    You would need probably 24aa batteries to achieve the voltage necessary to run this beast on the highest output.
    Do you use 18650's? If you get high quality protected 18650's with a high quality safe charger you won't want to go back. They are so easy to charge, have really high capacity, and high voltage to run higher output lights and emitters.

  • @martinaee
    @martinaee 12 років тому

    Well sort of.... Li Ion 18650's are fairly low self discharge, but I think some techs like in NiMh eneloops are even more low self discharge. I wouldn't worry about it though--- if you are wanting to keep a 18650 light as an emergency light just top off the batteries (if you aren't using them) every 1-2 months. And if you are getting really high capacity 3400 mah cells it won't even matter that much. A lot of cells are 2600mah which is still a lot.

    Thats a battery fault, dont worry, I had the same problem. On turbo mode less than 20 sec, I was not happy. I used original high capacity Panasonic cells, specially bought for my fenix :D. What I did, I change into "cheap" less capacity ultrafire battery and problem fixed. hope it will helps some of you. I love this torch 200h on low mode !!! turbo is incredible for such small toy.

  • @Patriot36
    @Patriot36  12 років тому

    Congratulations, after 7000K views you've just posted the most ambiguous, non-succinct, silly comment to date, which begs the question, "failed" compared to what? The bulk has more to do with the size and depth of the reflector REQUIRED to produce the target lux the manufacturer was shooting for. The body is compact for a 4 x18650 torch and with 3400mah cells will run 16.5 HOURS at 400L. That's two nights of 400L output. Either you're from the future or I've missed your point completely.

The idiot who opened the thread proved to be a troll or irrational and I eventually bowed out of the conversation. There are also beamshots posted of the newest fenix RC40 in the RC40 thread compared to other lights including HID. I'll let you be the judge. :)

    It's a strange and futile wish because someday when LED catches up to current HIDs like the Polarion, new generations of arc lamps are going to be utilized in new, expensive, Polarion like lights. The surface brightness of the new generation of lamps is magnitudes higher than that of LED even if we project 10 years into the future based on the current rate of development. As far as value goes, yeah LED uses less expensive components but whatever makes you feel better man...lol
