Alan is a gigachad
I thought a chad was a bad thing(?) I’m old.
@@dmanstarr Ah jeez, it's complicated. Originally being a chad means that someone is viewed as an "alpha male" who has a lot of positive social traits, but over time people have used it so much that it's lost almost all of its actual meaning!
Hmm. I’ve seen it used to indicate sort of a basic bro and kind of a bland, nit-wit douchebag.
But regardless, Alan is an admirable man, fo sho. I want him to be my dad. Which would be weird since he’s younger than me.
I like how Alan wants everyone to do well, the way he gives all those guys help and advice, even though it’s a competition. That’s super cool.
Like a real strongman.
That's probably because he entered for fun not for a 2$ plastic medal
I've never been to a meet (powerlifter) that's not like that. I think it's the culture of the lifting sports, although maybe it's the culture of anything that's not cut-throat "pro" level stuff. You'd hope no one in casual competition would be so competitive they didn't want to give anyone else any help.
@@PinataOblongata yup. I did a Highland games and when the other guys found out it was my first one, they all started offering tips on the events. Same thing I first time I tried strongman.
@@patrickh9937 It's actually one of the big things I love about it. Everyone on the outside thinks of lifters as meat-head "jocks", but that is actually the ball-sports crowd, lifters are some of the most humble and nicest people you meet, in my experience, probably because if you've been around for any length of time you've seen people of all body shapes and capabilities and ages and walks of life apply themselves to the same struggle, and you have some insight as to what that struggle is like (pushing yourself to be consistent, coming back from injury, working out weaknesses, the nervousness of a meet, etc.). Perhaps I don't know enough about other sports to say that camaraderie doesn't happen in those, but I've def had better experiences in non-team activities.
Alan giving a full MTV-style crib tour of his half tent is the funniest thing I've seen today.
"Yeeeyah!"
Top comment for my boy Zach, let's goooo brah🤙
MAXIMUM AIR FLOW
@@ricktunnissen3407 I MADE IT, RICKY-BOY!
TFW when you sign up for a competition in a sport you've never done the day before it happens and take first place in every event
The "i don't know how i placed" chad
What I learned from this video is if I enter a random competition with no training I will come in first place.
If your wife makes you diet down from recreational hugeness, at least.
You missed the bit where he is familiar with several lift/throws...and is a powerlifter. Apologies if you are a power lifter or the like. If like me you're a tubby and under trained stay at home at watch on youtube.
alan is so cool that he signs up for a higland comp the day before it happens at the same time taking care of two small children
Nice event. Thanks for show this experience to us. Greetings from Germany 🤩🦾
Your kid's greeting knocked me down. Very adorable! God bless you and your family.
Good for you for helping out the newer guys with the tacky. That’s the great part of the lifting community.
A really wholesome moment. Alan is the dad/teacher type through and through
If Alans about six foot and 200 lbs, that ref in the straw hat is a beast of a man.
Alan, 47ft in the 28lbs weight for distance w/o practice is huge! Dude, get in the Highland Games. You move well and HG events are a ton of fun!
Im wanting to one in Michigan at the end of June I noticed a lot of them are invite only, do you what the process for this is? Thanks!
Alan can’t help but be a helpful coach. The world needs more like this.
Hell yeah man! I’ve been attending highland events for a decade and practiced with my uncle who competes. These events are tough but very fun. Great work and love this content!
Brandon, how do you find events? I'm having trouble browsing online.
@@joeyd219 Sort of just being involved in strongman/highland groups. They’re very in tune with it and know about them. But it’s usually traveling a few hours to a university on a Saturday or Sunday.
Whenever I feel strong af, i will watch a video of Alan to feel weak af again. Good motivation.
Love how often you share this attitude of just giving stuff a try for the fun of it.
I'm surprised there wasn't a caber toss. Pretty impressive result as well Alan
Highland Games without a caber toss is like an air show without a plane crash
Allan, I am from brazil, and I ve learned so much, by seeing your videos. Congrats
thanks for the video. I'm participating in my first highland event in a few weeks...super excited!
Nothing like Highlander events 🏴 well done
Alan on a whim kills the competition AND shows everyone how to do strongman??? #victory
Gotta love the guy that signs up the day before on a whim and then smokes everybody the day of competition.
Untamed to the core, man. Great work, love to see your event performance as always! Especially with implements I’ve never seen
Seems like there used to be a lot of these highlander events going on, but I haven't seen a lot of them lately. I hope they're making a comeback.
8:03 - I love her fantastic giant hat.
Also I think she beat ya on the atlas stone there. The old under-roll technique. Heavily frowned upon, but effective.
This is really fun content thanks for posting! Like the idea just to give a go for competition! Had a blast watching how you help guys apply tacky for the first time!
But the biggest struggle, was that Alan had to listen to Scotland the brave the entire time 😂
Loving the comp videos.
man you got such a great energy, always feel better and more positive after watching one of your videos.
P.S.: Hi Benji! Hi Evelyn! 👋👋👋
Thank you Allan for showing how you balance fatherhood and your lifting. You recognize both are important and do both the best of your ability. Also, I too, appreciate that you share your knowledge with others. You care that they like the sport and do well than you being the top dog. Thank you. From a powerlifting Mom who's balancing things as well as she can too.
just some really great stuff here
love this video alan!
That looks like a lot of fun! 💪
I did my first strongman event in April came in 7th out of 10 people but had a blast two of the implements I haven’t even trained and gained 1st and 2nd in those events. Thank you Alan for sharing this and don’t know if you’ll see this but I’ve used your videos for training since my first powerlifting meet when I was 19. I’m doing two more strong man events this year and planning to make top 3 for at least one of them. 🙏🏽
This was lots of fun to watch.
looks like a great time. Nice video.
YOOOO didn’t expect this, this is awesome! I’m currently training for Highland games myself, hopin to compete next year!
This was such a fun video!!
you've inspired me to check out the local competition, thanks man
Great job Alan
Damn dude that's impressive. All that training has paid off.
In your throws for distance, you need to "switch" your feet. It's a shot put thing, where you jump a little and your feet switch positions. The switch puts your throwing arm further forward, the jump gives you more power, and the landing gives you a specific time to stop the momentum of your body. I bet you'd get about 4-8' extra.
Yeah he hardly had any weight on the back foot. With practice in the throwing events he could fling those implements!
@@tommyromanowski yeah if he's winning or in contention with those movement patterns he could be crazy with a little practice.
Loved the final message Alan, will try to sign up for a comp, just for fun
That looked fun man. Nice first place
Highlander FTW!! Go Alan!
I'd love to try one of these
Great video
I love the women's hat at the end!
I was a little nervous about her getting sunburned
Great job lifting and throwing!
nice tent!
Good job Alan
Scotland The Brave in the background. Ooch Aye!🏴
Love it! So Highland Games next??
I competed in some Highland games competition in college, still looks like fun!
Great results. Know I could teach you something about tossing a stone. Keep on!
Sport Kilts is one of the best kilts you can get for games if you want to do another games. I've got 2 and I love them. USA Kilts are nice but they can sometimes be a little bit thicker with material.
Nice work
“My first…..”
But all Highlanders know, “there can be only one” 😅
I've done one competition myself and have my next one this weekend. I'm a bit surprised you didn't have to do the single hand 56lbs weight over bar.
LOVE IT
I fucking love that tshirt man
That looked like a good time.
The half tent saves a lot on heating and cooling costs.
Train Untented!
Strongest man in California!
Well, probably true. AFTER WSM finishes up this week and the competitors all go home....
Kiddin'. Go Alan! Better buy a kilt next!
Alan is the G.O.A.T.
Looks like fun
If you're gonna get a kilt and keep doing highland games type events you need the Leatherneck Tartan, aka USMC.
Slow is smooth smooth is fast. Learned that from Jeff at Norcal cycling orrrrrrr just coincidence (^^)
Thats a great lawn there...
I did this 20 yrs. Worlds and National in 2007
We have the same dakine backpack. Ive had for atleast 2 decades.
I wonder how many people at this thing had no idea who Alan was and were just like "who that fuck is this random guy showing up and wrecking everyone?"
More videos in jorts please, thank you
Hahaha the crib bit was awesome. California is so expensive
Get a kilt! Slainte! And watch Outlander. Great video!
No caber, sheaf, or hammer throw? You're missing all or the most fun events! Still looks like a good time, now you'll have to find a full festival and compete with some Men's As
💯
I'm kind of surprised they didn't have a natural husafell stone event
Alan Thrall is that you who added the pipe music or is those pipe & drum bands in the back ground? An do they know any other tunes than “ Scotland the Brave “? lol
You can't have Highland Games without pipes. It's the rules. 😉
@@jasonscheffler9813 No 💩 I’m a bagpiper.
Love your attitude, Alan. Anyone know what he was using to clean tacky?
WD40 usually but it wrecks your skin a bit
I use goof off for most of it, and baby oil for getting the last little bits -- usually ends up being nicer on the skin than some options. Any kind of oil or oil based soap should do it.
Correction sir, that rock is ONE THOUSAND pounds
I’m never in the loop. Where was this promoted?
hello from scotland
I wonder if Alan is running any of the Barbell Medicine templates? I ran the beginner template and thoroughly enjoyed it. I would like to know which template to run next that would get me to a general strength and conditioning for CrossFit?
The Titan template is what you want, it’s your regular BBM programming but with WODs for conditioning.
I want to do this.
Wasn’t there a caber toss? 🏴
It’s basically throwing a tree only you’re trying to get it to land perfectly straight
Hi Alan!
Nothing close to events like this where I live. Hell, not even in the State. Glad you had fun. Everyone there seemed nice. Did you win every event? ... Thought so.
Where abouts are you (state or country level is fine). There are highland games almost everywhere in the US at least, we have one in NM this next weekend even.

Who is that big unit in the blue kilt at 6:04?
slow is smooth, smooth is fast.
Under 200lbs also known as the children's division at the highland games.
Seriously though the guy running the timer probably tosses cabers like toothpicks. I went a few years back and it really is a fun event. Looks a lot smaller post covid.
How can I find events like this? It looks like a lot of fun.
Google and facebook?

slow is smooth smooth is fast…ryan crouser quote
Aight as far as entering these events 'untrained', where would you guys draw the line? Even though you didn't train especifically for a strongman/highlander competition, would it be advised to at least have solid lifts on the bench, ohp, deadlift and squat? If so, what would be considered solid lifts as far as this goes?
Usually they list the events and will give the weights. Obviously dont enter if You've never lifted a 250lb stone before if that's what you are going to carry

How do I compete in this
