Really great break down! Was interested in seeing the difference between the two. I wonder how many of the parts will be interchangeable.
Stelvio is the more cohesive and interesting design I think

I would prefer the Maserati for the goodies, the extra luxury, extra size ...and the potential for better performance or better mileage (due to the electric assistance).

The Grecale is a bit too understated from an exterior standpoint to me. I love its interior though but I would've preferred a traditional shifter in it. So, the next generation Stelvio would be greatly served to maintain a similar exterior design in general but with an interior highly influenced by a middleground between the Tonale and Grecale.

Very interesting to see how the Alfa engine cover has the blank spot for the Maserati logo. Makes you wonder how long they knew they were planning a Stelvio-ish Maserati.

I imagine the exhaust system of the Grecale accounts for the 18 additional HP over the Stelvio and some of the additional weight delta as well...
You can see the intake manifold are very different. Grecale have beefer intake and a lot more wiring under the hood. Also the mild hybrid motor will provide extra HP. The mean Grecale can easily tune to 310+ hp without too much issue.
Grecale hybrid is intriguing. I’d like to see Ron do a test drive comparison.
May have to do that next!
I'm having a disconnect here. I'm pretty sure our Stelvio Ti Lusso has a strut bar. Have Alfa removed it on the 2022s?
I thought all Stelvios had strut bars. Great catch there! ...I wonder why they removed it.

They should give a bit more premium feel to Alfa in next generation too!

Ron, you know I'd take the Stelvio! Its a no brainer. Hey, today in Redwood City CA, they are selling a new Porsche 911 model for $289k with an additional $250k markup! Incredible isn't it?
I even think the Stelvio looks better, side by side. The 5 hole wheels on the Alfa is better as well. Its all personal taste however. My 2018 Stelvio has the strut tower brace like this Maserati.

Funny, the 'privacy shade' on my Stelvio Veloce looks a lot like the one on the Grecale, not at all the one on the TI Sport.

The question that I have is why they didnt implement hybrid system on Stelvio and Giulia if Grecale can have it?
Stellantis' explanation is that hybridizing the Stelvio and Giulia would be an investment without a sufficient economic return

My 2020 Stelvio Ti Sport has the strut bar as standard...
I still think the older Alfa exterior design is more distinctive than the Grecale. Inside is where the Grecale shines and makes the Alfa look more dated.

Stelvio is way better looking car than Grecale, and it isn't worth higher Price at all. ✌️
Bigger doesn't necessarily mean better, but the Grecale is significantly bigger. The Grecale dimensions are closer to the segment above, than to the Stelvio and other competitors dimensions.
Stelvio is a looker for sure. I need to get the Trofeo vs the Quadrifoglio next.
6:11 Ron, you forgot to look at the numbers. The size is not similar at all.
The Grecale is closer to BMW X5 dimensions, than to the Stelvio / BMW X3 Dimensions.

Ron!!!...the Grecale is obviously more luxurious inside...and I think that's where Stellantis wants the model to be I'm comparison to it's cousin...The Stelvio is meant strictly to be more sportier but the Stelvio just falls short with their interior
I think if Alfa didnt cut back on materials and options that they used to have, they could be a little bit better shape now on its 7th year.

Stelvio falls short with interior? I dont know about quality of Grecale interior, but Stelvio interior design and functionality is way better than Grecale. Real door handles, physical buttons, no ugly glossy plastic, real shifter instead of ugly buttons integrated in display. I would say Stelvio has classic and functional interior while Grecale looks like cheap China product.
@@UnKnown-sf8ub I disagree somewhat with this statement. I think, in some ways, the Grecale is overstyled because of how far behind Maserati had fallen and overcorrected. They need to establish an interior design identity. This new design is a bit generic IMO, but they will probably continue to iterate. Stelvio's interior is far from perfect and could have been improved over the years with some usability enhancements, but it wasn't. This is an interior that has been essentially unchanged for 7 years. That is unacceptable in this class and at this price point.
@@darrell9616 Not at all. The Stelvio Interior quality improved significantly after 2019.
The gear lever, the central console, the option to have better noise isolation (double laminated glass on windows) better infotainment, etc.
If we opt for the leather finish over the dashboard console and upper doors we do get top quality interior. Not the fake leather we now see on many top competitors.
A curious comparison, Ron. These 2 SUVs share three things: the same parent, the same platform, and both are overpriced relative to their primary competition. I don't know why anyone would cross-shop these 2 given the vast differences in available equipment.
At least on this side of the Atlantic, the Stelvio is on pair with its typical German rivals. ...unless you consider it overpriced because of it.
And the Grecale is easily the biggest SUV in this segment with the comfort advantages from it. Despite being built over the same platform, it has an increased distance between axles and its way larger and wider.
@@miks564 I'm in the U.S. and consider the Stelvio overpriced because it costs the same as its competitors with significantly less equipment ( a long list). I don't know what you say about the Grecale is trust since I haven't been inside it or the competition. A spec sheet can only tell you so much. I do know that I can get a loaded X5 for less, with more features. I don't know if the Porsche is the same or not. I do know that it shouldn't be more expensive than the Porsche when the Porsche offers more features, and a more powerful engine, for the same or less money.
@@darrell9616 Well, on this side, the competition costs the same but offer less power for the buck. …and if start improving on the extras, the competitors became more expensive. But anyway, picking a Stelvio is hardly a cost based decision. Resell value usually ruins the deal from that perspective.
About the equipment, yes, there are a few things missing on the Stelvio like 360 cam, ventilated seats, HUD and of course the infotainment could be better.
But as I said I still have a better engine, better performance, better dynamics due to lower and correctly balanced weight.
And still get the “important” useful stuff like level 2 autonomous driving, lane assist, brake assist and all the three letter safety stuff.
I have trouble agreeing with the significantly less equipment. In the end I get a comfy ride that can be turned into a more stiff dynamic acute response whenever we want it for the sake of driving pleasure.
@@miks564 I'm with you on the driving experience. I've heard about Europe pricing. I accepted the tradeoffs when I bought my Giulia, but the market is a little different with SUVs. I can understand you making that choice, but we shouldn't have to. The Alfa should have the features you mentioned available. At least the Tenale does
That main reason folks would cross shop them is them being sold next to one another in the same network. You'd be surprised how many people will test drive on and then go on to by the other.

Built over the Giorgio platform with a Multiair engine it's clearly different than anything built over a VW MLB platform with a TFSI engine. ...but yeah, the look on the Grecale should have been a lot more aggressive.

Maserati having 2 liter engine for 65k is a joke. They probably sell 2 of them per year. I see that Maserati has bigger disc brakes.
Acura wants 65K for the 2 liter Integra Type S. I really wanted one but couldn’t justify the price. Ended up getting a Levante

Yet everyone still compares the two of them because the share said similarities. Its Alfas fault that they havent come out with anything significantly different in 7 years while a car from Maserati came out on their same platform and offered so much more. So this is showing the possibilities and potential Alfa had.
@@RonsRides Sadly Maserati is way more important than Alfa Romeo for Stellantis. It's the only luxury brand, while Alfa Romeo is paired with Lancia and DS in the premium segment.
@@RonsRides Alfa reminds me of Infiniti. That had some great products but let them languish. There's no excuse for the current Alfa lineup to be so dated and non-competitive in so many categories. To think of what could have been....
The Tonale is Alfa's new modern crossover.
@@RonsRides Alfa brought an evolution to the Stelvio in 2019. Maybe not on the exterior, but the interiors got much better. ...and now, they're launching already the facelift Stelvio and Giulia (on this side of the Atlantic) with LEDs headlights and digital dashboard.
