We needed some food videos in between all these vlogs! This masala oatmeal was something fun I picked at the grocery store to try -- I thought it was so filling and once I take the salt out I could totally have it for lunch as well :) I'll show you where I lived in Jaipur next time...really pretty place. Sorry about the fever. It was one of those 24 hour ones and went away the next day, but was sort of intense while I had it😬 Anyone else here like a savory porridge or oatmeal??

I LOVE a savory oatmeal. I cook rolled oats with some veggies like spinach or finely diced something else that will cook quickly, and add a hot sauce on top, usually TRUFF

I never liked sweets for breakfast and almost always have some variation of savory oats. I like to add veggies but I'm lazy so I usually add the needed amount of water to the blender and whiz in some raw veggies and seasonings, then pour onto the oats and nuke. I'll even add some cooked lentils or beans if I have any. Endless variety and very satisfying. I even add a handful or two of old fashioned oats to soups and stews for body and "creaminess". So many people never consider oats as a grain like any other and think I'm weird because they insist it should be sweetened.

Oh I loveeeee using oats as flour -- I made a noodle with it once and the texture was so surprisingly al dente! But I love your way of adding veggies and lentils. When you eat oats as a porridge, I feel like it could be for any meal, which is lovely adn convenient☺

@@EastMeetsKitchenMe too, oats are so versatile. I'd love to learn more about those noodles!

I eat that stuff all the time. I love the masala version. I agree it is salty. My solution was to mix the mix with plain instant oatmeal, 1/2 and 1/2. I add a few frozen peas or veg to it to bulk it up. It makes me so happy in the winter. I prefer my breakfasts savory.

Oh that's a perfect idea!! I have these falafel mixes that I find are way too salty. So I kind of do that too and add more gram flour and veggies to water it down. But for sure...I think if I added another serving of just plain oats to it, it would have tasted nice.

@@EastMeetsKitchen I also don't bother microwaving it, I just add hot water and let it sit 5 mins or so so the peas cook. If I add corn or other frozen veg, then I microwave them a minute or so before adding the oatmeal and hot water.

Aren't things there super salty because it's such a hot climate? Like, cola drinks from there are much saltier. I like that you're continuing to post videos from your wedding trip; thanks for posting 🙂

Oh I had never heard that and just looked it up! Hmmm...I wonder if it's true though? -- Like how much salt is lost through sweat and whether you really need to up it a certain amount. -- But you know, I'm being a pain. It's a ready-made oatmeal and I'm sure the general masses like things a certain way.

I tried this item in the States.
Didn't enjoy it. Tasred too processed and the sodium levels were scary. And the texture of the TVP, or whatever the protein component was, was off putting.
    Just an opinion. 🤷

Yah I think sometimes tvp and wheat gluten do have a weird texture -- depending on what I'm eating, sometimes it puts me off too. Glad to see that most ppl are saying it was more on the salty side, though I see now that many ppl actually add more oats or veggie to it, so in a way I can look at the packet like a concentrated stock cube. I could probably make 4 servings from it by adding more oats😂
