Hey Matt, a little advice from a trucker. When you stop don’t shut off the truck right away, idle it for about 5 minutes so that the turbo can cool down. If you don’t your turbo will go out a lot sooner
Actually, that 'fishing lure' is actually polymerized fuel. It's diesel that's come in contact with RTV silicone sealant. The RTV sealant causes the diesel fuel to polymerize into a rubbery thick jell at the point of contact. I recommend checking if your fuel system has had any gaskets installed with silicone sealant on either side of the gasket. If that's the case, then this episode will be a recurring problem.
Isnt that the same as what is common in yachts? Like diesel thats stands still for very long time mixed up with condensate water and bacteria? Seems like the didnt do a very good job with refurbishing the truck. This shouldnt happen to a freshed up motor!
@@deeperlayer how? He's off the clock, and it could have been someone (probably like you) that won't tip anybody for taking time out of their day to help somebody in need. Hey Matt, that wasn't a fishing jig, that was fungus/algae that grows in bad fuel. You'll definitely want to get some fuel system treatment for that or you'll be doing injectors next. Just two scents from a heavy equipment mechanic.
Also diesel mechanic. That didn't look like algae/fungus. Algae is more stringy also algae doesn't plug up in fittings like that, it plugs up the filters. The way they pulled it out with a pick it looked to me like something made of rubber(fishing lure).

The good part of this trip is it helps identify all the things that are important to change for future intended use. A short trip in better conditions would have left you hanging for future preps. Someone can soften up that suspension for you if you're not going to need the full capability for cargo or towing. The heater cable looked kinked up but can be repaired or replaced. Plus the defroster open/off damper could be fitted with a hard plastic seal to shut off the heat. A good cleaning of the entire fuel system wouldn't hurt just to prevent more junk from clogging injectors, etc. Looks like you need either a larger or an auxiliary air-conditioner because the cab is huge. And you can replace the air wipers with electric ones. Have fun.

That worm looking thing, looks like the Diesel bug, the whole system needs to be treated and cleaned. It happens with diesel that sits around or from a contaminated source.
Hey Matt, my wife and I have been fans of your channel for awhile and we just saw your tungsten video and I thought I saw something familiar, a Habersham County, Georgia tag. It's neat that you visited my hometown and congratulations on the new 5 ton!
Drove many, many 5-tons in the military. They have a "cruise control" on M-925...it's actually a throttle controller with a knob you can pull toward you to increase the revs. We called them cruise controllers, which they aren't, but they kinda sorta work alright when driving on the highway
Well, in the guys eyes the truck was mechanically fine, the fuel however could have a microbial contamination which kinda looks like the shit he pulled out of that orifice. Which can happen if a truck sits for a long time sometimes.
So the reason he uses the home oil diesel (red) is so he doesn’t get it confused with gasoline when he’s out helping people. Home oil is the same as car diesel. They just dye it for tax tracking purposes.
Nick Mango no. I’m pretty positive this is not why he has red diesel. If you notice he was in a united rentals work truck. If you don’t know what that is; it’s a company that rents out equipment. Forklifts and cranes and such. Which have Diesel engines which need repaired by this man. And they use red diesel. That’s why he has it on his truck. If you noticed the can was yellow. Yellow is usually diesel. Red is gasoline. 🤔🤔
Even if he was the motorist assistant, it's impossible to get diesel and gasoline mixed up if that's your job. They smell completely different. Him using red diesel to help motorists would be illegal anyways.
Hey dude, old diesel fuel sitting for a long time can turn into a jelly type substance in the bottom of the tank like your fishing worm in that pipe. Long trip and running fuel tank low would of sucked it up. I suggest draining your fuel tank and lines to flush it out otherwise it’s going to happen again. 👍🇦🇺
Matt, I am an engineer and after watching you engineer the air conditioner vents I can honestly say your engineering skills are every bit equal to my veterinary skills. Kidding...Actually that was a pretty clever solution.
2006-ish mandated ultra-low sulphur fuel, which destabilized diesel and makes it pretty shit other than for immediate use. Especially if you have an older diesel engine.

Hey Matt, my wife and I have been fans of your channel for awhile and we just saw your tungsten video and I thought I saw something familiar, a Habersham County, Georgia tag. It's neat that you visited my hometown and congratulations on the new 5 ton!
With spray paint or a sticker, put "Able" on the 5 ton because he's such a great guy and helped you out
up
It’s probably spelled Abel but yeah. Without him they wouldn’t of been “able” to make it.
@@Surago omg. 😂
Either way, put it on the truck somewhere
Drove many, many 5-tons in the military. They have a "cruise control" on M-925...it's actually a throttle controller with a knob you can pull toward you to increase the revs. We called them cruise controllers, which they aren't, but they kinda sorta work alright when driving on the highway
Gotta say Able restored faith in humanity. Any man who goes out of his way to help somebody in need is a good man! Much respect!
I agree with the care package!! A shout out is cool and so was the music. Abel you rock !
I love it how the guy who made the truck was like "it'll get there no problem."
To be fair, it was reasonable to not expect sabotage lol
some problems only show themselves in use
Yeah I think he messed it up on purpose
Well, in the guys eyes the truck was mechanically fine, the fuel however could have a microbial contamination which kinda looks like the shit he pulled out of that orifice. Which can happen if a truck sits for a long time sometimes.
Name the truck Abel after he went out of his way to help you get going again. Sound like a good truck name "Abel to do anything".
You should invite Able to Demo Ranch. At least send him a t-shirt.
Abel, what a fitting name 😂 legendary mechanic work.
I think you need a “Thank You Abel” shirt made bro
Blah Blah 13:05 “motorist assistant patrol”
@@NickMango Able was not the motorist assist patrol. He came along later.
Nick Mango 14:09 you can see the logo on the truck.
And as dan said he shows up later. His truck isn’t the same one that showed up with the lights.
Even if he was the motorist assistant, it's impossible to get diesel and gasoline mixed up if that's your job. They smell completely different. Him using red diesel to help motorists would be illegal anyways.
And this is why most ex military vehicles travel long distance on trailers
And not build for highway speeds and distances.
@@GM6.7 but this one is tho this man really said it's not intended for extended trips? When it was purpose built for stuff like that???????????
Cuz fishing lures usually end up in the fuel line? :P
💀😂😂
@@LordGopu it's the obvious place to keep them
Epic save Abel!!!
Thank you!
Bro Able you are the reason America rocks! Being able to have people like you ready and willing to help out is a blessing.
Matt gets a 5 ton. Breaks it the next day:
Don’t tell Mere
Mere knows everything. And she may be getting quotes to wrap it..
Matthew Horne 😂😂😂
Thank you Abel! What a great guy!
Imagine driving that with an air seat that doesn’t work and it is up-armored. Done that in the Marine corps for 6 years. We drove 7 tons though
Lunker's is trying to sabotage you with his Googan baits
that's the first thing I was thinking too as I was watching this! LOL
Lmao 🤣
Beat me to it
Yep.... LUNKER’S fault!
@@theziadragon4322 me too! Noticed after commenting 🤦🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️
Matt, I am an engineer and after watching you engineer the air conditioner vents I can honestly say your engineering skills are every bit equal to my veterinary skills.
Kidding...Actually that was a pretty clever solution.
It's pretty common in military vehicles and police cars to run hosing so you can stick it up under your armor.
I drove these and Deuce and Half's for 10 years with no AC and loads. Never had a single breakdown. Someone punked you while you were sleep'n.
Could been that guy asking for weed, but got bum instead
Maybe it was for the bad parking job. People get pissed when you take to much parking space, even if there's plenty of space in the lot.
Polymerized fuel, if diesel comes in contact with a silicone sealant, it becomes a thick, rubberized goo. Not a fishing lure👍🏻
Diesel worms are back I thought we got rid of them in the 60's.
2006-ish mandated ultra-low sulphur fuel, which destabilized diesel and makes it pretty shit other than for immediate use. Especially if you have an older diesel engine.
