I started sewing 2 months ago and was making my sister a foldover purse. I only had fat quarters so I had to mix and match fabrics and came out amazingly!!!!
Yes, I bought two different fabrics that share similar colours and I intend on combining them in a dress. I’ve cut out the dress pieces in one fabric, just finalising my design for how I precisely want to integrate the second fabric. You read my mind Juliet! 😊 I love your channel btw, although I’ve been sewing through experimentation/intuition to date. You were fantastic on The Great British Sewing Bee! You deserve many more subscribers that you currently have, keep up the fantastic work! 🤗
I love your fabrics, I think that matching up 2 different fabrics together is a good idea. I like the first 2 blue fabrics that you had together an I like the purple fabrics together.
Your suggestion on how to pair is going to be very helpful in the future. I have quite a bit of Ankara fabric so now I can strategically think about combining them. Thanks again.
This was very help as all your videos are! I think I will start purchasing two prints at a time just to see if I can master the "mixing" of prints! Thank you for sharing!
I apologize sis, I thought I had subscribed weeks ago. Thank you for all the important tips. I will be watching this video again when creating. After watching 2nd time, the green patterns go together as does the burnt orange pattern.
Hi Juliet, it is so refreshing to find you on you tube...just found you about half hour ago... and I am elated. I followed your journey on the Great British Sewing Bee and enjoyed watching you episode after episode... congratulations on your success although its been awhile since..I am from the Caribbean and no longer is able to get the sewing Bee in my parts.. finding you this morning is awesome. You continue to inspire, I love to mix and match prints and colours also..
Hi Juliet I totally agree with you my mum always made outfits out of African prints in different colours and they go so well together. I have also notice that some African fabrics are now mixing some prints from one pattern to another pattern making the fabric one whole piece fabric. I like both the blue fabrics either way will go but it does depend on what type of outfit you are going to make. Good to see you on your you tube as always keep up the good work :) :)
I really like the mix and match fabrics i never tought of doing that but now i will. The 2 blue prints are nicer together then the one with the big brown and blue pattern... i really love this!!!!
Hi, Yess ur right. It can be really nice to mix some fabrics. I saw it in Vlisco video's last year. I kept it in my head. I bought some ankara's last week. And i did what u show us. Different patrn fabric , but 1 or 2 colours are matching. Like the last 4 fabrics it can be nice to put ...i dont now how u call it "bias tape" between the garment.i think the brown, green, orange and white is perfect for that. It give's a great accent ... I think. But u are the expert here. Me i see sometimes and not as good as u are :-))
Love the green and pink, the 2 blues for sure but it would to grow on me about the 4 at the last. I can see the appeal - I recommend living with them a while till you know for sure. I love your method of teaching
I have enjoyed all your tutorials. I have been looking at using the Ankara prints for quite some time. I had selected a few pieces but didn’t purchase them after watching your video on purchasing them and different qualities, we do not have a supplier near where i live, is there a particular online supplier that you could suggest. Many thanks. Debra (UK)
The purples definitely work together. you could make a dress. the top in the small scale fabric and the bottom the ring fabric. I love that combo Really like the greens too
Thanks so so much. These fabrics.... hmm... some from online stores, some from Nigeria sent to me by my parents , some bought from London fabric markets- like Liverpool Street market, Deptford high street, Brixton market etc
I lived in Togo and Cameroon before and love the fabrics! But I really have tough time to match them! I have some of the same fabrics you have here too! But the colors just look so gorgeous to dark skin and I unfortunately am Asian. Some big circles are especially hard to cut and make an outfit without feeling like a darts board! Can you make video to teach us how to cut the fabric to make the patterns shine? Also, is there a technique that we can mix and match with other fabric to create a chic and modern look outfit? Many thanks!
Thanks for a great video. Personally I’m not convinced by the last 4 - they don’t sit well to me. The other combos were great except one where the blues were not similar enough to my mind. I agree with all your concepts though but have never really analysed it before! Diana
This would be so much easier if the web sites for these fabrics had accurate colors on their photographs! I miss being able to shop locally for fabrics!😥 Do you sew just for yourself or for others too? I always have more ideas than bodies to dress!
Hi Juliet I was wondering if you could help me with a Macalls pattern 8653 button through dress which I can’t seem to buy anywhere. If you know anyone who would sell it I’d appreciate it. Needs to be a 14-16 size. Thank you in advance if you can help. Cheers x
Juliet, do you know anywhere in London that’s currently fixing sewing machines? The hook timing on my machine seems to have gone suddenly (again, for the second time). Not caused by my using it, so I’m looking into the cause and a final solution.
Oh no!!!! That’s so frustrating. I take my machine to a machine shop on deptford high street but I’m not sure what they’re called🤔🤔🤔 please search on Google for their address. I’ve also heard of Wimbledon machine shop
@@JulietUzor_ Thank you Juliet, the timing on it went about an hour ago while I was taking a knitted dress in. 😭 I’ll look into the places you mentioned.
Hi. I really enjoy your vlogs. I have once bought some african print from Vlisco. But when it arrived, I found it very stiff. Is that common - or is it about the price? I live in Denmark, and as I know it, there a no shops for african print here. So I have to buy online.
I want to make my own Ankara dress and Shorts. I buy and gifted Ankara clothing frim3 my Nigerian ppl but the quality and stitching and shape isn't for me no matter how I keep telling my auntie.. I love mixed patterns of the fabrics. What I will be working on for the rest if this pandemic. I'm taking a virtual online sewing class now and she will help me and I have a friend who sews clothing...
I've learned alot here about what to pay attention to when considering mix and match. Thanks a million for not beating about the bush
Thanks so much

oh Omotola... thanks so so much. You're so kind. 🥰
I like most of the combos. The 1st blue set overrides the larger blue print. Purples, green works. Never thought of matching prints, but I love it! 🙂
Glad you like them! thanks so so much
The blue and tan looks nice 👍🏾
You are a blessing you answered my questions perfectly.😊❤🎉❤

Matching patterns can be so tricky but with these tips... It doesn't seem so hard
I'm so glad you think so!

Beautiful fabric! Great advices! How could we get these fabrics in Europe? :S Thank u!
Yes yes !
🥰🥰
Purple and the green pattern work
The purples work well together if you'd have the larger scale print as the base and the smaller scale as edges or ruffles . My opinion
I love this idea
Hi Juliet, where did you buy the ankara fabrics?
Hello!!! I do buy my fabrics from a range of places and some in Nigeria. Are you based in south London?
I live in Oxford no way close to London.
Awesome 👌 Sending full support
Great 👍🏼
Thank you 👍
The purples would work well together.
I agree with you on that one 🥰🥰
This would be so much easier if the web sites for these fabrics had accurate colors on their photographs! I miss being able to shop locally for fabrics!😥 Do you sew just for yourself or for others too? I always have more ideas than bodies to dress!

The Reds would make a nice duster to me.
oooooohhhhhhhh.... I love that idea!!!🥰🥰🥰
What’s the name of online store where you buy Ankara fabrics?
I’ve bought from diligent hands on Etsy, empire textiles and Middlesex textiles
How flexible are the ankara fabrics? If not doesnt it distrub the African women? Or how do they taylor it?
Nice
Thanks
ah this is an awesome topic!
edit : 8:16 is it just me that keeps wanting to Appliqué the circles onto the other print?
Nope!!! not only you 😍 I feel the same way some times as well
Beautiful Ankara please where can get their name? Thanks 🙏
I'm not quite sure how to get their names either. So sorry
