- Buying Ankara fabric ONLINE VS IN-STORE is the challenge of the day!
In my Fabric shopping video two weeks ago, your request was for me to bring you some tips on how to buy Ankara / African wax fabrics in-store and online.
So in this video, please come along with me on a trip to Deptford High Street to buy Ankara / African Wax fabrics. There are many other places to buy African wax fabrics in London: Brixton, Deptford, Dalston, Walthamstow and the king of them all which is Spital Fields Market (near Liverpool Street Station)
If you have any other African Wax fabric shopping spots (in-store or online), do share with everyone else in the comments section below.
Love and Light,
Juliet x

those are beautiful designs of fabric choices! i love it! reminds me of this fabric store here in the US that i buy from on line, Tess World Designs! gorgeous fabric! i created fabulous bags from her fabric. my birthday is comming up in two weeks and i want to do a field trip for my birthday to go there in person.
Wow! I've never seen a store that carries so many ankara fabrics in one place!
It’s like wonderland for me 🥰🥰🥰
My younger sister just started staying with me and she's a stylist...your channel will favor her alot now
Thanks for sharing this sis😊
Gladys Amah thanks so so much sis
thanks for this video Juliet, I just wanted to add that your comments about how easy it is to buy the fabric in the store are only relevant to those living in London or other cities that have these stores.Living in Devon there are no stores selling Ankara fabric so online is the only option.
Oh my goodness!!I have missed you Juuu, glad to be back.Honestly, going to the source is 100% better than shopping online.I shop from Empire Textiles online, but going there gives you the liberty to select what you really like than just buying what you see online...😍♥️. Thanks Juu,have a great day ♥️❤️😍
Hey Jenny! Long time 🥰🥰🥰 I hope you’ve been well?
@@JulietUzor_ thank you dear,I lost my dearest mum,I had to go off for sometime, but glad to be back again...😍😘
Girl, this is an interesting video! I checked out your channel, bc I need to up my style and make way more Nigerian clothing.
Wha??? You did? Thanks so much 😁😁😁
I have a peeve about two things: 1. The stickers on the fabrics and 2. Seeing people who sell fabric online lay the fabric on the floor or dirty carpet/rugs. Thanks for the teachings.
Akedah these peeves are so valid. Also I’m pleased you found the tips useful
@@JulietUzor_ Thank you
I enjoyed the tips you gave us on looking for quality fabrics and that will help me when I am shopping for the best. I hope you have a nice day and a great weekend, Juliet.
Thanks so so much and I’m pleased you found it useful
Best consultant for everything Sewing and Ankara
Hang on this is Juliet winner of Great British sewing bee Sooo cool!!!
Hehe 🙈🙈🙈🤣
You made right choices of fabrics. They look vibrant and beautiful. Another thing that drives me crazy is the cost of shipping in an online store🙄
At times the cost of shipping outgrows the cost of product🤣
You hit the nail on the head! 🤣🤣🤣
Exactly .
These are amazing tips and I would love to visit that Ankara heaven when all this clears. Thank you for sharing. X
I think you’ll love it there, Josie 🥰🥰
Lovely!!! I would like to try making the dress you are wearing, do you have a tutorial for it?
Bought you a ☕️ 😉 Keep up the inspirational videos! Your going 💪🏻 xx
You’re sooo kind. Thank you so much for your lovely support.
I will definitely be looking into purchasing some Ankara fabric for next spring/summer. Itsnigh impossible to find them in stores here, so it'll be an interesting journey 🤣
Hi Sissy
I am thankful for the tips
New subscriber here!👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
I came because of the fabric, I stayed because of your jumpsuit (blouses, dresses, encouragement from your other videos I watched at 3am). Do you have the pattern to that jumpsuit?
Thanks for this information, I'd like to no the name of the store you went and were its at.
The stores I tried visited were on deptford high street - opposite the Tesco mini. I don’t know their names... oops 🙊
@@JulietUzor_ What's the name of the fabric store you visit in the video?
@@Mentis-de unfortunately don’t remember the shop’s name.
Hey Juliet I thoroughly enjoyed Great British Sewing Bee when you were on.... is it possible for you to put up that which was recently concluded?
Oh thank you very much. The recent one, I think, is on BBC iPlayer. I hope you do find it there. 💝
Thank you so much for this video, Juliet!
Hi Paule, thanks very much for your kindness
Hey Juliet please can you link the online stores you tried out and the store in Liverpool St Market?
The online store I tried include Middlesex textiles and empire textiles.
Hey Juliet!!
Hey hun 🥰🥰🥰
Hi, i am trying to open ankara fabric store and it is taking all my time searching for the right wholesaler.... Do you have any advise?
Thank you!!!
your vids are great!!!
Thanks so much 💙
Hi Juliet, I love Ankara fabric and enjoyed your video on shopping for such. Do you usually purchase the fabric that has a wax finish? And do you normally launder you fabric before sewing? Thanks and keep up the great work!
Thanks so so much. I don’t like the fabric with a wax finish for clothing. I don’t mind it for bags and home soft furnishings.
Oops I forgot the second question. Yes,! I do wash them using a mild soap using the hand wash setting on my machine.
Hi Juliet, I enjoyed the video, thank you and keep them coming. is this on the main road or tucked away? What is the name please? Thank you..
Also, I found Middlesex Textiles in London quite friendly when I visited and posted my materials to me in 3 days. Empire, I walked round and the chap ignored me and stayed on the phone, despite trying to ask for assistance, left the things and went round the corner to Middlesex for the first time. I am hoping to start sewing soon so bought some cheap ones from their online store to practice on as well. Best to visit and get them posted if you can not carry them more to choose from. 😀
The shop where I actually bought the fabric is on the main deptford high street - opposite the Tesco express 😘😘
Am early let me watch
Yay!!!’ Hey Jen
I get my fabrics from there !!! 😍
Ooohhh… that’s lovely. I’ve not been there for a while now. All the best, Juliet
Holaaa soi Antonio bacale kiero saber donde estáis con la tienda esta ahora
How much did you buy the fabric in Deptford market please 🙏
I bought them for £25 in total
I'm in south Africa, I just want to know if I bay maybe 6 yards how much in south Africa money?
How much is pound per Rand
What is that store
I bought some online because no way I would be able to find this variety in Modesto CA
Hi Juliet, love your videos. I would love to make a shift dress in ankara fabric. Should I buy 100%cotton ankara?
fatima sosa hello Fatima. Thanks so much. I would really recommend 100 percent Ankara - it lasts longer etc
Is there a particular reason for the fabric to be in 6 yard lengths?
That I don’t really know....I would really love to know why they come in 6 yard bundles. Hmm 🤔
@@JulietUzor_ I believe sari fabric is sold in 6 yard lengths, so it could be that it is this length to make a particular type of garment.
It developed from the length needed from a traditional wear, people found they needed 5-6 yards so the orders started dictating the production. Women’s long wrappers and men’s long Agbada and such, Nigerians any way. And showing my age. 😂😂😂
@@FunmiLiving Ahhh! That's interesting to know. Thank you.
Thanks for your videos, great timing as I was looking at online stores that carry African prints yesterday but £8 for postage 🤔.
I love your haul especially the Julius Holland one, I think it’d wear best of all. Can you share which store you bought it from? Per adventure their shipping is reasonable.
Hello
☺️
I have wholesale business, you can buy from us if you want.
What is 6 yards in american dollars??
Hey Barbara, the 6 yards in American dollars would differ from store to store.
