Let me tell you this is an extremely well done, clear, complete, compelling tutorial. You managed to take a game that scared me a bit in a very simple, linear yet interesting experience. Thanks!
As a clarification, at 18:03, I would add that the blue disc is moved back to the blue player board (not removed from the game). It is said later in the video, but I feel it would be useful at that time too.
I have watched this video three times so far. Such an excellent tutorial. You make the rules so accessible and easy to understand. Everything just makes sense. I cannot wait to introduce BTS to my gaming group. Thanks so much for this.
I've played a couple times on Board Game Arena and I was still confused about some things. Your tutorial helped immensely. Things I learned: Population icon with an X doesn't destroy a cube, it returns it to the column. Colonization means you take the planet card and a new one takes its place. A couple issues with BGA: it automates a lot of moves. This is great if you don't know the game well, but it doesn't help you learn the game either. Also, even in full-screen mode, you can't see the entire board. You can't see how some actions work unless you look back at that part of the board which may be off screen. But thanks for the tutorial, Jon. Well done. A friend of mine just bought BTS and we may play it later this week. So looking forward to it.
Jon, a question. colonization is not clearly explained in rules. I assumed you could colonize at any time when you had the required power, but you seem to indicate that it can only be done by putting a worker on the terraforming spot, for example. The rulebook under ‘eligibility’ says nothing about needing a worker placed on a ‘colonize’ spot. Can you confirm this because there are no answers to this in the rules section on BGG.
Starting on page 12 the rulebook shows a long list of the actions associated with icons that show up on worker placement spots. With this in mind it seems clear to me on page 20 that when you go to an action with the colonize icon then that is when you perform the associated colonization steps.
Excellent video as always. This really does look like an interesting game in terms of mechanics, lots of things to consider and avenues to get ahead. That's the sort of thing I like in my games.
Fantastic tutorial. One mistake: Your wormhole option specifically said it cannot be used from Sol or Deep Space (you jumped from Sol). Based on this tutorial I have just ordered a copy :)
This wasn't actually a mistake. That restriction applies to future moves, but it doesn't apply to the "immediate" effect since you perform the immediate effects before the rest of the effects on the card.
I SAW MY NAME!!! @47:14 Not gonna lie, you are probably the first person to have ever spelt my last name correctly first try. Also, side bar how interested are you/this community into seeing a totally average guy painting random average minis to games? I have friends on dischord that I extend a live stream of me painting minis at my desk and I'm honestly pretty shy about it, but my friends love just watching my push paint chatting and listening to music.... I don't think it will ever be a thing that blows up, but I'm just trying to build a positive group to hang with online even if its random and doesn't have a schedule. It's just something that helps me manage stress in the Navy and keep my friends close at home while I'm away which seems to be all the time. Sorry if this comment seems about me, but I feel I can be more open here than other places. I love your work Jon!
I did write it incorrectly at first, and then noticed the lack of "n" :) Regarding your idea, I say just go for it and see what happens. I have no idea about demand for things like that, you don't know without trying .
@@greglott4977 Ah, I actually think I did this correctly. The immediate effect says jump anywhere, but after that for future jumps the restriction is then in place.
Hi Jon. We just had our first play of this game. Everyone in the group loved it! But we all have this question mark ❓, can one research several times the same level 1 technology? And is there a limit of population cubes to place in the rectangle next to the research card? We found that we needed to take the automation actions to increase ore population production! ?
Each player can only research the same technology once, but all players can research a tech so the max is 4 for each. Automation is good for population, but a quicker way to increase it is by controlling plant planets.
Wormhole Technology says "except when leaving Sol" and so there seems to be an error around the 38 min mark for purple when they jump two ships from Sol.
I think you made a rules mistake at approximately 37:30. When you took the Wormhole technology. It specifically says you can move anywhere on the except when moving from Sol.
This was pointed out before, and I actually did it correctly. There is no restriction on where we can go with the "Immediate" part of this effect. The restriction from moving from Sol only happens when you activate the action later.
Question here for the (at end of turn) text in the achievement cards Does it mean at the end of the turn of the player claiming the achievement or the end of the turn is after all player ahve played their turn for that round ?
The (at end of turn) text in the achievement cards. Does it mean at the end of the turn of the player claiming the achievement or the end of the turn is after all player ahve played their turn for that round ? An example for this confusion. PLayer 1 is first player, just claimed control over two planets this turn that allows him to put two food production disks. At the same time triggering for him the Achievement to have an entire row of production's disk emptied. Can that player claim the achievement or do we need to wait for player's 2 turn to end ? BEcause if so, player 2 can come contest the claim on the planets and put the food production disk to player 1's mat. Which would mean the achievement would no longer be compelted (At end of turn)
You check for achievements after each player turn, so in your example Player 1 would indeed gain that achievement before Player 2 came in and moved some of their discs back.
I rarely use that scale, so I'm not super confidant in using a number. I've also never actually played a full game of this one (I hope to soon) so I"m not sure how crazy it gets near the end.
Geez. Wonder how many hours spent learning this game let alone everything going on. I dont know how you learn the game play it and score well 3 times everytime. That’s what boggles me I almost just want to skip to the end just to see the final scores. I can’t even get terraforming mars to the table. Awesome visuals👍
Man but Jon gets games. This is my goto for all walkthroughs. Thanks!
Let me tell you this is an extremely well done, clear, complete, compelling tutorial. You managed to take a game that scared me a bit in a very simple, linear yet interesting experience.

Jon, you really know your stuff. The way you make yourself clear is out of this world!!!

Well done, mate. You've given Rodney a run for his money with this tutorial! Clear-cut and lean; just the way a rules video should be!
You have the best Board Game channel on UA-cam. Just thought you should know 👍
watching this video, made me realize that I will love this game. it just clicks with me. great video man!
It's a great game. I have it in my game bag right now with the hope of getting it played again soon :)
First play is tonight. This is a great tutorial. I feel like can compete! Tx !
The game seemed dry and frightening, you've shown me it's a very interesting one. Thanks Jon!
Amazing job. By playing through the game, the rules explanation is crystal clear. I am excited to play this with my friends tonight.
Glad you liked it, hope the game was fun :)
Best tutorial I have seen for this game, for sure. Congratulations and thank you!

Wow, three times?! I'm glad you enjoyed it so much :)
Great overview of the rules. Very clear and without excess expository. Well done.
As always a fantastic well articulated gameplay tutorial Jon!

Great Playthrough! Best way to teach these games 👌🏻
this was so well done, thank you! played it on bga once before watching this, looking fwd to trying it again with a better understanding now
They have this on board game arena now. Going to play with my sister/brother in law thanks to your expert tutorial. As always thank you very much!
Now THAT'S how you make a space-themed player board!
Perfection as always Jon. Great video, you are the real MVP when it comes to tutorials.
Thanks for the super awesome and complete tutorial!
Very clear, very detailed. Thanks!
A great video as always. Thank you for helping me play the game.
Thanks Ignacy, I hope you enjoy the game :)
Clear and concise as usual. I come up with questions in my head and often you answer them in the next sentence... :)
This one is on my watch list. Let's see if it may stay. Thank you!
Great video. Much simpler to understand after watching
Thanks for the explanation. I really like the tech tree component of the game.
I'm so excited for this game. I'm a big fan of tech trees, and you get to determine the tech available? That's fantastic.
I'm the same. I had to send my copy away, looking forward to an actual play of this one in the future :)
Great tutorial, as always!!
brilliant tutorial - if it wasn't for this video, would never have tried the game!
Superb tutorial, am very excited to give this game a go - though pretty expensive to get a hold of at the moment.

For what it's worth I've now played it all the way through twice and I'm actively looking forward to my next play :) I'm really enjoying it.
Your channel deserves more subscribers ^^
I liked this one. Maybe Innovation made me unreasonably fond of games that are 90% tech trees, lol.
Huh, I hadn't thought about Innovation in a while. Interesting comparison.
Another great video Jon! Thank you.
HOW did I miss This playthrough ? YAyyyyy

Added this to my wishlist.
Thanks for the video, great as always. Btw, Wormhole Technology doesn’t let you jump to a non-adjacent space from Sol or Deep Space.
Yeah that is true, did I jump incorrectly in the video?
Yeah... 37:41
@@greglott4977 Ah, I actually think I did this correctly. The immediate effect says jump anywhere, but after that for future jumps the restriction is then in place.
Ahh! Cool. :)
35:55 III Tech - Event B) - Could you have grabbed the population from column B?
No, unless otherwise specified you always have to go from the left-most column that has a cube on it.
@@JonGetsGames thanks 🙂

Rodney out, Jon in!
Why not both? :)
Great video 👍
Wormhole Technology says "except when leaving Sol" and so there seems to be an error around the 38 min mark for purple when they jump two ships from Sol.
"Except when leaving Sol" only applies to future movement, not to the "immediate" effect from starting that technology.
Game looks great.

RTS tech tree, the game? I'm so in.

Hey Jon - thanks for the review - using the BGG complexity scale as a reference, what complexity would you give this game ? Thanks
I rarely use that scale, so I'm not super confidant in using a number. I've also never actually played a full game of this one (I hope to soon) so I"m not sure how crazy it gets near the end.
The only think confusing me is when picking new technologies it says pick the left the one to the left what exactly does that mean?
Hmm, I'm not sure what you are referring to. Is this something in my video?
Pro Cylon!
Came to comments to see if anyone else noticed he pronounced procyon wrong. 😂
@41:33 About the note. What's the point to put a placeholder token?
I asked about this as well and was told it was simply to emphasize that the card is a colony since all colonies have 2 discs on them.
At 11:47 you say "any of these technologies" which should be "any of these achievements."
Oh, oops! Thanks for catching that.
