That voice... Goodness the acoustics really bring the emotion out. It's an amazing song to begin with, but I feel the passion is even more palpable with acoustics. 2:28-3:07 damn near brings me to tears. Beautiful performance on their part, glad I discovered Karnivool.

It's not all falsetto - a fair bit of it is disconnected yes - but at lot of it at least the stuff up to his second bridge is connected. That's pretty impressive - There aren't many rock singers who can do that. Maynard, Cornell, Buckley - he's in that kind of territory.

This is my sense of reality
This is proof of my coming of age
    This is truth in captivity
This is loosing a theology, I
    I'm a soul taker
    I'm a cruel, witted mind
This is my sense of reality
This is proof of my coming of age
    I'm a soul taker
    I'm a cruel witted mind
    Are you with me?
    Are you of my mind?
    Are you with me?
    Are you of my mind?
    Waking, falling, free of gravity
We just severed these umbilical wires
This is more than just affinity
We're moving further through an endless desire
    I'm a soul taker
    I'm a cruel witted mind
Come again, I feel a breakdown
    Let's go higher
This is the sound of your
    Reason to wake
    Have we forgotten now?
    Can we relate?
It's backwards, it makes no sense
So real that we can't pretend
It's backwards, it makes no sense
    It's harder to just pretend
    Say it once more
    Say it again
    That this is the end
    Of all I know
    Say it once more
    Say it again
    That this is the end
    Of all I know
    Are you with me?
    (Can we relate?)
    Are you of my mind?
    Are you with me?
    (Can we relate?)
    Are you off my mind?
    Say it once more
    Say it again
    That this is the end
    Of all I know
    Say it once more
    Say it again
    That this is the end
    Of all I know

When the pick of destiny was released it was the bomb
And all the critics said that the deed was done
The sun had set and the chapter had closed
But one thing no one thought about
Was he d wound rise again
    Just like the phoenix
    We'll rise again
That's right the phoenix will rise again
'Cause the fiery heart of the champion
    Can not be quenched
By a failure or an embarrassment, no way, no
And the critics all agreed it was a stinky pile of cheese
But that does not mean that our hearts are not strong
    Just like the phoenix
    We'll rise again
    Just like the phoenix
    We'll rise again
Rolling thunder, when will it end?
Rolling thunder, there's a monster on the bed
There's a monster on the bed
Rolling thunder, when will it stop
Rolling thunder, will it take us to the top?
Will it take us to the top?
    But what if it's true
That tenacious d has died, what will we do?
    And what I'll we do
About all the fans that have the d tattoo?
    They'll have them removed
They'll have to laser off the d tattoos
    Tattoos
They'll have to laser off the d tattoos
Hold it cage, what's that on the horizon?
It's a big old fireball of hope
We can still make it to the top cage
All we need is our friendship
And I'll stick to it if ness
And one hit, just one, one, one, hit
    One hit
Yeah we're hoping this is it
    One hit
    Top 10 hit
    Top 40 hit
    Top awesome hit
I don; t care how we get there
    We'll sell the mule

I play some similar version with standard E tune. The verse is one guitar playing Em, then Asus2. Listen to the song to get the rythim and changes. I play the high tones in this part with octaves: G, D, C, B (you can also try to hit the first string in 3, 8, 5 and 3). The Chorus is C, Em, D and Asus2.

  • @ivanfawcett-gibson5786
    @ivanfawcett-gibson5786 9 років тому +8

He's not singing falsetto, he's making sure he doesn't drown the acoustics. His natural range is tenor, but if he did that next to acoustics you'd not hear them.

+ivan fawcett-Gibson He's definitely singing falsetto in the first verse, you can hear the timbre change from verse 1 to 2, it's very obvious.

    • @Krishach
      @Krishach 6 років тому +4

Missing in Venice is correct: he is using falsetto intentionally and switching to full diaphragm range. Verse 1 to verse 2 he does this, and its also perceivable in the album version. Its actually incredibly hard to get those two methods to overlap with any significant range, and its impressive as hell that he can do that live.
