  • Iracing Rage Has Gone Too Far.....
    Hey Guys, have you ever been on the receiving end of someone hunting you down due to an incident that happened in Iracing? Rage quitting has always existed but with everyone seeing your full name in Iracing, is it too easy for people to take it too far?

    I've never had this happen to me but I sort of like the idea that if it did happen I would also have their real name to report it to the police if there were threats of violence or something serious of that nature. The idea that the real name is default and people can change it however adds an interesting dynamic, new naive users are exposed while toxic people may hide behind some form of anonymity. I think that there should be harsh punishments for stalking online and any threat of violence should be a permanent ban from the service. It's understandable that someone can lash out on voice chat in the moment but going and stalking them later is unacceptable.

      Very well said my Freind! I completely agree with you. It’s one thing to make a comment in the heat of the moment but to make a conscious decision to stalk somebody after an incident is unacceptable and should be dealt with accordingly

    Interesting topic I see both ways on this I was able to report some one to the Australian Police (the fixated persons unit) because the muppet had used his real name on Iracing before he stalked me so that was helpful the Police did not need to go through Iracing to get clearance or whats-app or facebook etc . I also believe less anonymity can ( not always) help people behave better if their real Id is on display. I think my biggest issue is how iracing report back on these issues people deserve a comprehensive outcome. Not just "thanks (insert name here) the issue has been addressed ... Yeah right! I check I racing person is still racing.... When the police got back to me i was clear in what they had done and what happens next should it heppen again

      That is actually such a good point. So maybe instead of being concerned over our names on display we should potentially have a more fitting repercussion for the person in the wrong?

      That’s crazy! I can’t believe people get that upset over a video game that it leads them to commit real crimes

    Thankfully I'm more than smart enough to make sure my data is secure and nobody inside of iRacing can contact me.
    But the fact that hundreds, if not, thousands have been stalked over a video game is revolting.

    • @KyleSpoor
      @KyleSpoor  Рік тому

      Agreed! I think some people are more private than others when it comes to social media which I guess is a decision that changes from person to person, but 100% agree! Regardless of your “privacy settings” on social media, no one should be stalked over an interaction in a video game!

    Also, can you imagine if this was the standard for all games...I mean just imagine Call Of Duty lobby's...wow.

    These examples and this story is crazy. I would never ever chose iRacing for the name reason period.

      Mr Social Hardware himself 😮 haha. It was kinda confronting when I started using the service. And I 100% understand that it would be a no go for a lot of people! If you could use a “gamer tag” when you start would you be more inclined to try it out?

    • @SocialHardware
      @SocialHardware Рік тому +1

      @@KyleSpoor Haha please. I'm just a regular guy. I think a gamer tag that can never be changed is a better way to about things. If that was the case I would definitely consider jumping on but also at the same time I think from some of the other story's I've heard the iRacing scene can be incredibly intimidating and if you're just getting started and learning literally how to race and be competitive the fear of making a mistake and then being virtually harassed makes it a big turn off..maybe that's just me though.

    • @KyleSpoor
      @KyleSpoor  Рік тому

      That is a good point too, I understand that it could be intimidating for new users in fear of making a mistake. I was exactly the same when I started and I’m still the same now. A friendly culture will
      Always Ben more welcoming.

    i had this happen when i first started but in a iRacing Privet message but after explaining it was a mistake and i was new he turned out to help me out.
    i like the idea of having your name but think it should be like Real Racing and just be like A.Proctor on it not my real name it would be better and the only time you can see someone real name is when you are friends on iRacing.

    • @KyleSpoor

      That is such a good idea! your " full name" is hidden until you are mutal friends with that person on iracing! you could be on to something! 😀

    People don’t always use their real name. Unless some dude is called blinky bill.
    You can request Iracing change your name also. I’ve seen many with just an initial.

    • @KyleSpoor
      @KyleSpoor  Рік тому +1

      Fair point! How many people know that there is an option for that? My main concern is people aren’t given that option when they sign up. It’s something they have to organise after the fact and I think that sometimes confuses/deters people from doing it. 😄

      But you can only do it once and changing your name it still has to be close or shortened version of your name. As far as I know

    Managed to get a name change with iRacing to simply exclude my last name, but the name being used is still too close to my real name to be safe, therefore I can't use iRacing. Lost a bit of money, but hey ho, and it's not like iRacing is the only game in town these days. To be honest with regards to physics and graphics it's looking decidedly dated and is bettered by just about everything else out there.

    • @KyleSpoor

      Thanks for the info! What was it like to get your name altered? Was it an easy process and do you think new users would be able to find out how to do It?

    • @slaphead90
      @slaphead90 Рік тому +1

      @@KyleSpoor For me it was simple - I just went to the support page and, if I remember correctly, there was an option to request a name change. I explained the situation and they changed my name. However I was a brand new sign up, so that may have affected the ease with which I was able to get a name change.
      As a new user I found the option quite easily, but I guess if you can't find the name change option then you could just send a support request.

    Life has consequences wether it be online or offline. If someone decides to take it 'outside' raise it on the online service, so at least its recorded. Then if they persist. Speak to the police?

    “This not real life…”. Neither is social media , block the turd and move on. granted iracing protest process have become a joke. It’s imposible to get someone suspended or kicked

    • @KyleSpoor
      @KyleSpoor  Рік тому +5

      I get that, blocking them and moving on is absolutely the best way to avoid any further altercation with that person. But what if “moving on” isn’t as easy for that person? We all deal with conflict in different ways and for some, looking the other way and forgetting may not be as easy. But I agree with you on the protest side of things. If protesting users is our way of dealing with this there needs to be a better process that’s enforced.
