NYC Subway HD 60fps: [RFW] R42 M Shuttle Train Wrong Rail Round Trip Railfan Window Rides (9/4/17)

With Phase II of the Myrtle Viaduct Reconstruction starting back on September 2nd (two days prior), I set out to document the unique shuttle service that is now operating between Middle Village - Metropolitan Avenue & Myrtle - Wyckoff Avenues. This service is being operated by a fleet of 24 R42 cars, divided into four consists of 6-cars each, with two trains operating at any given time (which leaves a 50% spare ratio). Because of the presence of a single diamond crossover interlocking just south of Metropolitan Avenue, service is being run similarly to the Times Square Shuttle, with one train on each track travelling in both directions. This service pattern will remain in effect until Phase II of the Myrtle Reconstruction is completed some time around mid-April 2018.
In this video, I ride both trains on both tracks for two round trips. The "wrong rail" direction RFW footage comes first, followed by normal running RFW footage. Visible here is the new Fresh Pond Bridge, which was replaced during Phase I of construction. Of the two trains that were placed into the service rotation this weekend, the one on M2 track (normally the Manhattan-bound track) already has dead motors on car 4789. You can hear the line switch opening up regularly under the car (clicking noise) when the motorman takes power, which seems indicative of some type of control group issue. The temporary inspection barn in Fresh Pond Yard seems to still be under construction at the moment, and it remains to be seen to what extent repairs can be conducted in the yard on the equipment.

How come Fresh Pond Yard is empty? R160's are usally there.

Well fresh pond is currently the yard for the r42 m shuttle trains till april 30th 2018 and then starting on may 1st 2018 the r160s will be back. The r160s for the M are currently stored at east new york yard.

Also the m trains 🚂 terminate at BWAY JTN IN BROOKLYN
