MRI Sounds

- Watch this video to see how it sounds inside an MRI machine. It is a very hostile environment inside an MRI machine. The Noise levels can reach up to 120 dB, similar to a Jackhammer a few feet away. To illustrate it, we recorded a few sounds inside the MRI machine at UCLA Semel Institute of Neuroscience.
This led us to develop a new headphone with SMRT Image for Acoustic Noise cancelling headphones for MRI machines.

Had a mir scan yesterday and it sounded like a European dance rav party concert and that bass goes right through your body
Literally! I was actually enjoying it a lot! xD
Bu sese bayılırım ben çocuk yatıyor
I've been inside this 3 times, every time for around 45 minutes, I actually found the noise very relaxing, and fell asleep last time I was in one lol.
ah yeah i've been inside one today and yeah it is pretty relaxing, except echo planar which jumpscared tf out of me and i jumped like the first time i played alien isolation
@@homomad9163 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Same here. The noise is very soothing. I don't ever bother with headphones anymore.
Μe too, yesterday
Same .. good for sleeping 😅
This clip may sound cool, but I just had an upper body mri and it's anything but. The sounds on this video are very accurate, but imagine them 100 times louder (can be up to 120 dB), right around your head (because the scan was of my upper body), and very intense, even though they give you headphones to try to block the sound. And of course, you can't move a muscle while having this test. For the mri I had, each sound lasted several minutes, then cycled again...for 45 minutes total, with only seconds of break in the sound between cycles. I came close to losing it (they do give you a panic button), and wished I had taken the optional sedative my doctor had prescribed. (I also wish I'd heard this video before my test.)
Soon, you might be able to go to one of the centers where our CRBN noise cancelling headphones are available.
I have my first MRI ever tomorrow and I wanted to get used to the sound before doing it due to me having anxiety. Any tips?
@@nevaeh8825 I got mines, today, and I did great they will put earbuds in your ear and put on the music you like, and then put you in the machine, I can tell you, is to relax and think about something that you like or make music out of the sound and it's very fun to do that and yes, when I was younger I was 100% afraid of it but now that I'm 19 years old, I passed that thing like a test.
I just had an MRI yesterday and everything you made mention of is exactly the same experience I had. One thing that added to my stress level was that I had to facilitate a meeting an hour in a half after my MRI began and I could not get out of it.
Chauncey Tabby, it doesn't sound like it was a good day for you. Sometimes the best thing about a day is when it's over. I hope the MRI at least showed good results.

Here's to hoping they sample an MRI machine.
Just had an mri scan couple of days ago and actually found it very relaxing. Yes it’s loud. Very very loud but I wasn’t scared just needed to scratch an itch but apart from that nothing extraordinary. If you’re having an mri scan don’t worry about it just relax and it’ll be fine.
I needed this comment. I have this tomorrow!!! Thank u because I'm little nervous
If you have tinnitus, this is a torture
5 times trying to do it none of them goes well 😢 today i tried but i couldn’t
Yes sometime I fall to sleep or make music to the rytmus in my head.
I like the last one. It cracks me up every time I get an MRI & it reminds me of the beginning of "Highway Star" by Deep Purple & also of the beginning of "Revolution" by the Beatles.
I enjoyed the part when the mincing blades emerged from the sides and started to spin and whistle. Another highlight was the trunnion mechanism which drives the ceiling hammer. The padded end ensures a nice thud. Finally the horizontal piston that pushes you off the table onto the floor after the retaining banding is cut is a very pleasant experience :)
Lol
Very good. I had my first (& hopefully last) MRI yesterday & did think it sounded like the soundtrack from a horror or sci-fi film.
@@valparry4648 very weird isn’t it ? I’ve got another one coming up the 18th and im not looking forward to it ! Hope yours had good news 🥰
@@loriwalker6669 lower back & hip pain. Probably Sciatica, but will get results next week hopefully. Hope yours goes well 🤞
@@valparry4648 im very glad !! I got slapped with a little more, but I can be fixed so im thankful 💕 and know all of us that sent in usually have some “good “ reasons to have to be in there. Neat to have a tiny outlet here to vent alittle 💕
Comfy mri beats, especially when the machine starts to vibrate. Feels good.
It's so cool how this you can lay in a tube and listen to the AOL dial up sound on full blast for 30 minutes and then you get a picture of your insides
I just had an MRI like 3 hours ago, and I almost lost it! The sounds in the machine were like a thousand times more intense than the sounds in this video, and there was one that was like a hammering sound. Horrifying experience for me.
same here. idk why those people say that it's relaxing.
That's nonsense. I fell asleep during mine.
I just had one today. I can not get over the Loudness, the variety of sounds.....and I was on my stomach unable to breathe. I had taken anxiety meds....and it did not help AT ALL. Totally shell shocked!!!
@@robertlane370 you must of had a low intensity MRI
Korkuyorum
I came here to see if the noise from my MRI was normal because it was so insane, and yup this is what it sounded like, but way more intense and with a really loud jackhammer sound too. I had a DTI MRI for brain today and I wish I had seen this before to prepare myself for it. It was also shaking and vibrating which I didn’t expect. They gave me headphones for music but couldn’t hear the music over the sound of the MRI. Really intense especially if you’re sensitive to sound. And then you’re in a tiny space and have to remain perfectly still. I managed to not panic by focusing on my breath and my feet.
I fell asleep and it wasn't this loud
i wish this was longer, i might be weird but i liked the mri and fell asleep and was hoping for a nice tranquil loop of mri sounds so i could pick out my favorites
I’ve been trying to find a loop, my 5 month old loves the sound and falls asleep to it
I just had one and show it to friends. This is accurate. Same sounds, but this sounds last longer depending on the exam. I pray or imagine sounds.
I've had two. The first was in an almost futuristic room, with the MRI machine in the center. Very dark. No window light. No headset to drown out the sound. The second was in a regular office, but just a tad larger, and it had a big picture window. So plenty of light. Headphones this time, listening to classical rock, but I could barely hear it. Made the time go a little faster, though. The hardest part is waiting for the sound to stop for a moment so I could take a deep breath, since they don't want you to move. And the weird pants they made me wear fell down to my ankles when they were taking me back to my changing room, so that was fun.
@annihilatedreflection Not really. More intimidating than ear-splitting.
I had one yesterday. brain after a stroke that was my 3rd in 2years worst was having to keep still for 45 minutes . I'm 64 ex Navy, tough. but, yes, they're noisy critters! just go to that special place we all should have. mental toughness keeps you Safe thanks to alliance for scan and wonderful CA's
one of my relatives was hospitalized last week and needed me to enter the MRI room with them.
it was 4am and i had to sit there for almost an hour since my relative kept moving his head (bc of the noises) and they had to start it again. it was loud af, giving a headache afterwards 🥹🥹🥹
just had a mri scan today and it was very fun i wish i could go in there again with my synths and make cool cyberpunk music
I was in MRI few years ago and found it extremely relaxing lol
Had my MRI a couple days ago and when I heard the first cycle in the video I genuinely thought the machine was about to explode.
Me too the same
I had an MRI a few years ago. Nobody warned me about the sounds I’d hear. It’s quite intimidating for the first few minutes, but you get used to it. I told the doctor it’s a bit like being trapped inside a 1970’s discotheque. Then I realised he probably hadn’t even been born then.🙄
Ye same lol
Hilarious!
Ok, with my noise canceling headphones on at full blast, it sounds pretty accurate.
Except for those of us who fall asleep during an MRI without headphones. So relaxing!
This misses out the best sound. Like someome hitting the outside with a bloody big hammer? You feel the machine shake!
😭ikr
The machine shake because inside of the MRI it got a spinning scanner
@@noah192r alot more than that, a huge magnet spinning with helium around it keeping it cold
Everyone who is familiar with hardcore techno will enjoy these sounds lol
You really do need to expect the unexpected because background music is back but then suddenly a loud noise comes on
ジョックロックの漫才から来ました♪
I had an mri when I was a kid, and it was the most terrifying experience I had as a child because of how afraid I was laying there for 40 minutes hearing loud ass sounds with my eyes closed 💀
Yeah me too, I thought the bass was filename 1 from baldis basics.
The two times that I needed MRI, I couldn't stop to remember Floppotron performances!
We had an older MRI, it was nothing like this beauty. I was squeezed into an older closed MRI and it's like going into a coffin, everything is pitch dark, legs, arms, shoulders squeezed a little too snug. Not even 5 minutes the first time I had a panic attack, and not even 10 minutes the second time around with Xanax I still panicked. Wish we had a upright MRI or a open MRI at least
The camera never die😅
Thanks for the ringtone
Honey, new death grips song just dropped
Robotic kangaroos passionately hugging
I've had my first brain MRI in 2000 when I was 13 and always found the noise to be relaxing and cool. Didn't even have headphones at that time, and a scan took 45 minutes. 😅
i had 2 mri's when i was a kid, they didn't give me any earphones at both of them. i just vibed to the sick beat of this mfckin machine, and started crying after hitting the 20th minute.
20 minutes in is still impressive!
Just had my first ever today. The sound of my OWN VOICE is bad! I did not open my eyes once! I told myself don’t open your eyes! I didn’t listen to anything . I didn’t prepare myself at all. If you read this and want to, listen before. I wish I had.
I had this done twice both when i was 8 and one right after another because the first one couldn't get a reading, second one couldn't either, and it turns out the doctor had left a staple in my head. I had TEN which is why i got them
I am cronic patient of enxiety nurosis as well cronic for Tinnitus. Should I take sedative before MRI?.
As someone who has perfect pitch: Identifying all the notes out loud.
I kept wanting to sample the mri and make a song out of it like it sounded sick asf when I was in it today I had no idea it was audio intensive
Please do and send us a link to the track!
Had my first MRI today, sounded like a hard techno party...had trouble staying still...but at times the sound was also painful
THIS DUPSTEP IS FIRE 🔥🔥🔥
This goes very hard (it sounds like my alarm in 6 am!)
Both times I've had an MRI I have fallen asleep. For me I didn't know it makes a sound like this.
I’m so glad I was put to sleep for this
Okay actually
I just had an MRI and at first these noises were really annoying then I swear to god this was fun xD
I was just thinking about stuff all the time like "omg this sounds like I'm in jewelry store and robbers just broke in" then imagining the situation
I even almost fell asleep like 3 times even tho the noises were really loud
How’d that camera survive?
I just had one yesterday as well! It took 3 techs to find a good vein
to inject 😅 the contrast dye! THEN I was in that damn tube for
3 & a 1/2 hours! They gave me the
panic ball to squeeze if I was having a problem. I finally squeezed it and it seemed like
minutes later she stopped it and
got an attitude with me because
I stopped it! I told her if she was going to bitch about it she shouldn’t have given it to me! IT
WAS TOO MUCH WITHOUT A
BREAK!
Next time I’m taking a pain pill and ask for headphones with music!
I like it, my favorite one is the last one

I imagined myself lying on a beach being faxed to some alien planet.
I have just been for a MRI scan and had two in the past nothing compared to this torcher chamber. My fingers toes went numb and tingling and I felt dizzy/sick never felt like that with my other two scans. They also let me in the machine with my jeans on with a mettle zip and button no gowns. I did tell I had a metal zip and button on them and they said it's ok.
Going to an MRI machine with anything medal on you is not good. Not an expert so this is pure speculation, but that may be the reason the experience got physically unpleasant for you. They do use massive (non-harmful) magnetic waves which do interact with metals. In any case, the procedure itself produces no physical symptoms so it is something external that is causing the physical discomfort.
Don't let a single bad experience spook you. The medical diagnostic benefits of the procedure are amazing. Just be prepared, follow the instructions, and trust the staff.
Best alarm
How you do this clip when in resonance you can't have ANY metal things! But telephone is metal thing
This sounds like R2D2 after eating Taco Bell.
I just came home from a Rave, oh, I mean, an MRI. It was so enjoyable when you pretend you're listening to metal jams or techno. It kinda relaxed me. LOL. I was in there for about an hour, so...
How I see my bed when I was a baby:
I had earplugs and foam over my ears today and ended up feeling quiet relaxed by the noises. They reminded me
Of some electronic dance music songs Here’s Johnny by Hocus locus came straight to mind 😂
I had it today and the 0:10 was definitely the worst 😂 i was sweating so bad just to not move from the shivers i had 😂
😂 the same! Horrible
Same lol
😂😂😂😂😂 0:10 At that moment I didn't laugh, I brayed
I took 4mgs of diazepam before I left for the appt. Low Dose, I had not had any for years. That made a ton of difference. I Kept my mind clear, dreamed of my ears getting fixed, surfing and closed my eyes until the last 2 minutes of 45.
So it basically sounds like a dot-matrix printer.
Only at 120db instead of 65db. Ouch.
More like a sledgehammer a few feet away.
How did you record it… i thought scanners would rip the coils out of any microphone! This sounds very clean… my recent experience was more thunderous but quite fun 🤓
Probably a metal cage
The video was probably recorded in advance, as for the audio that thing can be heard from miles away knowing how loud it is.

As someone who's had at least 70 MRIs(brain ones), this clip had a majority of the sounds but a few of the main ones isn't mentioned on the video.
Are you alright? I'm genuinely scared about the big amount of MRI you had

@@its_nuked yep had my other mri recently.

Yesterday I had an MRI. I spent more than an hour there and my head almost exploded. I got headphones with songs, but imagine that you hear these sounds of the device and with that "rafaella carra - pedrro". 🤣 In the end, the engineer told me that we have a minute left, but I think she lied, at least five more minutes had passed. 😆
hostile? that sounds fire
I had an MRI of the brain today and the sounds were intense. Reminded me of the soundtrack to a bad 1970s Sci Fi movie or torture scene from a spy movie. I would not recommend it, if a doctor offers you a sedative or similar to have beforehand then take it.
Best techno music
I did it today it gavee me a veryyy very head burn and so bad headache... i felt dizzy in it felt to black out but couldnt say a thing rlly I wanted to shout and cry :(.. it took 60 mins head and spinal chord and pelvis scan... when i finished i was so dizzy couldnt move at beginning
😥
Crap. I've had MRIs for other body parts and found them relaxing. ?! I go for a brain one tomorrow and was looking forward to the noise. Now I am not -- these noises are going to freak me out. Sigh.
this is where the Dubstep Raves happen at 3am in the morning.
i have had two mris and i fell asleep both times lol

Popular American "dubstep" to be exact. Blech.

Recently had an mri and i can say I rather get a 4 hour tattoo done than get an mri for the 30 minutes it lasted.
Add some beats and this could be a cool techno music! :P

I paid for a private mri scan and the sounds were no way as near intimidating as these….
one of the worst experience of my life, lol 😂😂
Kind of like listening to Lou Reed's "Metal Machine Music" ...while laying in a covered bath tub.
I listened to this voice loudly and felt unwell. I can't go into an MRI like this.
They can be very eerie!

Would it be possible to get a longer clip? Trying to train my baby for an upcoming scan.
had to sit through an mri with someone. i was going crazy and started shaking in the middle for some reason. after about 30minutes i started imagining sounds to the point where i had 100 gecs play out in my mind. not a good experience at all i am very weak and sensitive when it comes to sounds ig
I've been in an MRI scan 1 time to check for any seizure activity they did find a seizure disorder but while I was in the MRI scan the noises are very loud and I couldn't move one single bit and I had stay in for 1 hour.
Yes I also fall asleep to the sounds! I quite like them. But I do think falling asleep is more to do with fatigue and exhaustion. The radiographers are always like, What??? You fell asleep??? And they have to wake me up to re-do breathing instructions if I missed any.
i love speedcore!

when i had MRIs as a kid, I would always fall asleep during it and they had to make sure I was okay lol (the mris were apart of a study i was in to study the development of the child brain)
sound like dial up internet 😅
The hardest thing I had to do in an MRI during a screening with sounds like this: Concentrate on an image and let my thoughts wander, then take cognitive tests and reaction tests.
Is it possible to download these sounds and use them in my music?
True. The idea is to keep the patients distracted, so they dont think about the uncomfortable sounds etc.
@@AudezeHQ To be honest, I don’t mind the sounds. I get MRIs regularly for twelve years, I sometimes doze off. 😄
