Hi, I had my first MRI scan today. I was so afraid and I also have claustrophobia and anxiety panic attacks. I was so scared and it wasn't so scary at all. Yes you hear the sounds but you have headphones and music, so these sounds are not scary. I could feel the vibration and knocking but it was very relaxing. I put all my focus to be very still so it can be as fast as it can be. And 20min fly away so fast! Please all of you that are claustrophobic as me, it is not completely closed, there is air circulation and it is quite wide. I was listening to music the whole time and counting how many songs had passed to know how much I was in, and it really wasn't scary at all. It's even in a way very relaxing when you get over the first 5 minutes while everything is new to you and you get used to the vibrations and sounds☺️ Also you know that this is completly safe and that sounds are normal ( just imagine that are the sounds of machine tacking pictures and try to focus to stay still) and you also have panick button just in case. But really it is not scary just be relaxed🤍
What kind of headphones did you have on? My dad is going for his scan soon and the assistant mentioned headphones are not permitted due to the metal interfering with the MRI technology. It would be interesting to know which kind of earphones you used please so that we can arrange them for my dad.
I'm here in the evening b4 my MRI next day. I like music, esp rhythm. I find that I have to psyche myself to listen, feel, and experience the event. Magnets exciting my cells to show images. This is such a remarkable part of technology that helps in my healing. WOW
I just had my MRI today. I was listening to meditation music, and I wasn’t even in the room, I like to think of myself as a professional meditator, haha. I actually used the noises from the machine to help me drift off, and I fell asleep for a bit. I really wanted to hear the noises again, so I’m glad I found a clip of it. Now I can drift off whenever I want!
I had my second brain mri last night (I don't remember the first one and the data is missing) And as a person who have anxiety, believe me, you only get a little nervous but it goes away. Doctors are waiting for you there. just close your eyes and relax. Think of the sounds as some kind of musical experimentation, especially that pumping sound. It was that sound that made me nervous the most, but turns out its just the sound of the liquid helium pump. If you feel lonely and panic, consider that many people like you are also getting an MRI and you will get out of there, just relax. Health never scared me.
I had a head mri on Saturday & it fixed my debilitating tinnitus for a short time. I suggested they upload they sound to UA-cam and they assured me I’d find it’s already here. Great stuff & I had great staff, who were just lovely. Thanks for uploading ❤

Ahhhhh yes, my life having an MRI on my head, neck and spine every 2 years (have Spina Bifida, Hydrocephalus and a Chiari Malformation). At least now, they give me music to listen to so it's more tolerable. Other than that, I'm used to it as far as claustrophobia goes. Use to be scared of them the first time I had to have an MRI (and I have had dozens so far, can't remember exactly how many), but now it's a piece of cake. The best piece of advice I can give, is it does get easier after at least a couple of MRI's. It did for me at least.
Had 2 MRIs done last week. Brain w&w/out contrast and orbitals. It lasted about an hour. Wasn't bad except I wanted to open my eyes and couldn't. Found prominant increased T2/Flair on intraorbital and intracranial in left lobe! Thank God no brain tumor! Still dont know why Im having left eye vision loss. Possible MS as the doctor says I have demyelinating optical neuritis.
Thanks for sharing. Pleased it went well for you 😀. I had one recently- no headphones and no music. Pulled out after 20 mins for the contrast dye injection then back in for 10 minutes. Really loud- made my ears ring. Reminded me of an old school rave at times! Kept my eyes closed throughout. Good luck everyone !
I had an mri scan before my gall bladder removal surgery. It was to check if the gall stones had migrated to the cystic duct. Thankfully, it had not. During the Mri, there would loud sounds like these, but I found to be calming(not soothing)and they had somewhat of a lulling effect. I became drowsy after a while
You're not alone Tomorrow will be my 5th MRI, and for the last 3, I get myself prepped by listening to these sounds. Some kinda jazz style percussion, I think.
I had my first mri today for lumber spine i was so scared , but when i went for it , it was nothing it was so easy , the sound with the earphones was nothing , one advice do wear a eye mask before going in to machine , and remove it only after completing the scan , all the best for your mri if your having it thanks like it if it helps you
I had an MRI on my heart and lungs following an episode of myopericarditis, the staff were always talking to me throughout to do breathing exercises and reminded me of the emergency stop control in my hand - with each sequence being finished, they asked me if I was doing OK, considering I was in the machine for an hour.
oh no, it is very terrified sound for me, I have a first MRI examination ever on my left knee soon, i was nervous and scared for my first MRI examination.....
A Mri scan makes me feel very claustrophobic and very anxious. I don't normally suffer from claustrophobia. I think for me it's the loud noises that a mri machine makes plus I suffer panic attacks. I've never been offered music or ear plugs thankfully I have only ever had 3 mri scans in 45 years the last time I had scan they had to rescan me as I was moving to much and the images where unclear due to anxiety.
For all anxious claustrophobics like me, I suggest practicing stillness while listening to MRI sounds in your headphones. Try doing this in a narrow space to help acclimate. Also, invest in good earplugs, and even if you’re already wearing them, don’t hesitate to ask for earmuffs before the actual scan. I wish someone had told me this before my brain scan!😅
Temporary anxiety can be managed with anxiolytics if needed, but the real concern is permanent hearing damage. MRI machines produce sounds between 70 and 110 dB, and prolonged exposure to noise levels of 85 dB and above can result in lasting hearing loss. For this reason, I strongly recommend using both the provided music headphones and earplugs. Why risk diminished hearing as we get older?
I fell asleep during my brain MRI lol, they put Jurassic Park III on a mirror but since I couldn't wear my glasses, I couldn't see it at all. Fell asleep trying to watch
Nice! I like the rhythmic, whooshing sound the best, like what you hear when the machine is on and running but not scanning. I wish this video has longer sections of that part.
Student here- can you explain why the last coronal prescribed was only half the brain slices on the sagittal? It’s supposed to he anterior lobe to posterior lobe coverage.
My last mri i was trying to have with medication to keep me calm for claustrophobia did not work i freaked out and had to stop the mri. I did ask my doctor for another claustrophobia medication.
Are doctors reluctant to refer patients to these scans because they are expensive or because hospitals have so few of them and need them available for people that come through the ER?
