His Masterpieces are all based so. Stairway to Heaven, clearly Celtic Folk Mysticism. Same "Battle of Evermore", rich in British Battle Folk lore
Bron-y-aur Stomp is Scottish folk song The Waggoner", changed around.
Same for "black Mountain side", taken from Scottish folk "Blackwater Side"
Bert Jansch, the Scottish Folk artis, often spoken if by Page as "inspirational", never sued. Something I agree with because the music if Led Zeppelin is more important. No matter how it arrives IMHOand of course all the amazing foreign folk like morroccan P&P loved

If you listen to Zeppelin closely, alot of the music is based in Folk. Robert is from the Black Country in England. The music of that area is VERY folksy.
@@Deejaay83urj38 And don't forget the folk rock bands who were hanging out with Zep. Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span, Pentangle. They were all playing the same clubs in the late '60s. They hung together, jammed together.

Very nice rendering of one of the late legendary guitar god Bert Jansch's early signature songs. Released a day after what would have been Bert's birthday.

Some of these songs by Alison are hauntingly reminiscent of Sandy Denny, English Folk Rock Legend.
Couldn't wait to hear, what they do with Bert Jansch's masterpiece. Well, Alisons's voice is so beautiful, and she brilliantly recreates Bert's hypnotic manner singing a little out of tune. Robert's humble role adds so many authentic notes. Great work!
Hmm, could be your device - or maybe mine, but Ms Krauss sounds spot on to me. The song is in a musical mode that is less common to contemporary “Western” ears. I just listened to Bert Jansch’s album that this came from. I never knew of him before today. The first song is a typical Arabic love song. Just replace “Baby oh my Baby” with “Habibi, Ya Habibi”. I hear the Caliphate and Jewish Spanish diaspora in Algeria in some of this music, and one piece could have come from a Yemeni music tradition. He includes Persian or maybe Indian influence, too. Not to be left out, there is plenty of Scottish and American South and Scots/Irish American (big overlap there). The Anti-apartheid song is universally relevant as a civil rights protest song. I didn’t google Mr. Jansch, and don’t know anything about him, but that album is like an encyclopedia. This little cover by musical giants opened up a box of treasures for me! Thank you again!

@@maryphillips3140 "Eastern" sounding of Bert's music apparantly comes from Davy Graham, another hero of British acoustic scene and folk revival of the 60-s. He traveled to north Africa and took a lot from authentic music, trying to mix Eastern and Western harmonies and melodies. He was the first one, who exerted an influence on Bert Jansch, John Renbourn and many others. Thank you for this interesting remark!

The whole Led Zeppelin sound was a tribute to Jansch, wonderful Scottish Folk artist, so much was from him in their music, including songs. They admired
@@Deejaay83urj38 , I couldn't agree more. "Blackwater Side" renamed "Black Mountainside" on LZ1 is another case in point. Interestingly, Bert Jansch didn't view the latter as a case of plagiarism, like some critics did. Instead, he saw it as the natural consequence of how British folk music permeated British rock.

@@Deejaay83urj38 , I'm a huge fan of British folk music (amongst many other genres, but it holds a special place in my musical journey). So yes, I do appreciate Fairport Convention too. Being a guitar player myself, Richard Thompson has been a huge influence of mine - just has Bert has.
