-Metallica returning to their thrash roots with Death Magnetic
-Van Halen reuniting with David Lee Roth and releasing A Different Kind of Truth
-Pat Smear returning to Foo Fighters for Wasting Light
A Different Kind of Truth is such a kickass album. Underrated for sure.
@@Blarsen780 absolutely!
Does anyone actually care about pat smear lol.
I think he's cool
@@corbz273 Sure but you can't call that in the top 10 biggest comebacks in rock music history
Def Leppard after Rick Allen's accident. That's the one for me.
They were never as good though, IMO. It was amazing they came back at all with Rick.
Yes sir
Yeah that’s the ultimate not giving up the rick Allen story
Yeah
O
ALICE IN CHAINS
Probably the biggest and best comeback, they lost the best singer on this plane of existence and still came back with a punch as strong as they packed in the 90s
Bon Jovi releasing "It's My Life" in 2000 to massive success after the lackluster performance of their previous album (the drastically underrated These Days) should be at least an honorable mention. That song was almost as big as "Always" and "Livin' on a Prayer".
The Number 1 Comeback, with AC/DC's Brian Johnson replacing Bon Scott, is Easily the biggest comeback in Music History!!
No other band has Ever had AC/DC's level of success after the death of a Frontman.
MyworstEnemy there's a little band called mother love bone, you should go check them out.
MLB is great, but they're a glorified garage band compared to AC/DC. They were finished after Wood's passing, though his influence lived on through bands like Pearl Jam and Soundgarden
"Highway to Hell" is one of the Greatest Rock Albums ever recorded, and it catapulted AC/DC into the mainstream. This is why "Back in Black" is the Best comeback Album of all time imo.
don't know if in music history, but biggest comeback in rock and metal for sure
Yeah, "music history" might have been a bit much haha! Thanks for the reply!
I'm not really a AC/DC fan, but I gotta agree that this is #1. Alice in Chains is my personal #1.
I completely agree with this list. AC/DC were my favorite childhood band, they're so deserving of top spot. Back in Black is the perfect comeback
Spot on
As a kid of a die-hard 90s rock father, John Frusciante and Jerry Cantrell are one of my biggest influences. I'm just so glad their bands are still rocking to this day after 20+ years. Alice in Chains revived with William, and now John Frusciante coming back to RHCP in late 2019.
Ahhhhhhh yes Frusciante's return will bless all rock fans
Yeah ALICE IN CHAINS!!!!!
Sir Berus - by your logic ACDC should've done the same thing in 1980, right?...... Oh you're going to say, "that's different"?.... riiiiight FOH lol
Jerry Cantrell was always the main writer for Alice In Chains, and so he's pretty much the one that created their defining sound. The new songs still sound like they are Alice In Chains songs, even without Layne. I don't think anyone that has listened to them for some time can even possibly confuse them for a different band. They aren't a "New" band just because they have a different singer. They still are Alice In Chains, just a new vocalist.
I completely agree with berus. The only reason you cant say the same for acdc is because they were still really fucking good. Aic is just generic noise now.
I honestly believe that opinion is only because everyone has gargantuan rose colored goggles cemented to their face. The AiC of now sounds the same as before, the person who wrote the songs of the 90s is the same exact person who writes the songs now. You can have your opinion, but you shouldn't try to pass it off as anything other than nostalgia ridden.
I'm not trying to trash on Layne at all, because he was an amazing singer. But ya gotta realize he wasn't the one to write the majority of AiC catalogue, and so the spirit of AiC didn't die with him.
I guess im just biased. All the parts jerry sang back in the day sound dumb af so i consider layne their voice. I cringe at a lot of cantrells lyrics as well. But nutshell will make me cry every fuckin timeband thats layne, well, in a nutshell lol
Saw Alice in Chains back in 2016 and it was probably the best show I've ever seen
Hopefully one day we'll see Slayer on this list.
Sadly Kerry King said there wont be Slayer anymore :(
@@zackzallie8735 bullshit, he wouldn't be signing Dean guitars contract for nothing, he said that in one of interviews
@@dominikorzechowski5058 Oh haha I didn't know about that.
@@zackzallie8735 yeah, no problem, peace
I'm in such denial I still can't wrap my head around Slayer having disbanded.
Even the wikipedia entry is sad. "Slayer was..."
Honorable mention for when Priest reunited with Halford.
Agreed. There were some good songs in the middle period, but Halford’s voice is the quintessential Judas Priest sound.
Metallica's Death Magnetic?
The creation of Megadeth?
Halford returning to priest?
What about when Dave Mustaine rejoined Metallica
Oh wait...
Actually it did happend, Dave Mustang was fired by James in 82´ after a fist fight were Dave knock James and Ron McGovney in Ron´s house, then the ginger maniac cameback some days later to Ron´s house and asked the band if he could re-join and they let him, THERE was his second chance.
I wish Dave had permanently rejoined Metallica... as a guitar player of 35 years, I did enjoy Kirk Hammett's playing early on, but Mustaine is more talented IMO.
hahaha so funny
Tbh Dave mustaine made quite the comeback of his own
+lucky dominguez
He s not a maniac he is a Thrash Metal Genius No Metallica CD can touch Rust in Peace
Sabbath and Ozzy reunion after 17 years should also be on here
Also Guns and Roses
While not a favorite band of mine how in the world is aerosmith not here. They were broke up for a very long time and could be argued were more successful after the comeback
Aerosmith is a band pretty much ignored by Loudwire.
Because Aerosmith sucked after they came back.
They never broke up, Perry and then Whitford left before returning for Permanent Vacation. Although given that most of the 80s was dire for them you could argue them being on the list, after all Maiden didn't stop when Ady and Bruce left.
Djarra even though they didn’t really go away their comeback was getting sober and becoming a more commercially successful band
Aerosmith is the biggest comeback in entertainment history.
ALICE IN CHAINS!!!!!
Maiden is the best one for me, Brave New World is pure perfection
When it said comebacks, I thought it meant something like "you look like you would wear a nickelback shirt" but I like this too.
Lmao me too
KISS when they put the makeup back on with the original members should have made the list
Agreed
No kiss are garbage
@@boreal8631 I wouldn’t walk across the street to see kiss if the beer and steak were free !
@@Mark-sd7fc I wouldnt listen to kiss even if it meant I died right after
@@boreal8631 ok that makes a lot of sense? Idiot
Came here for Judas Priest and Iron Maiden.
I'm half satisfied.
RG Indian They never really recovered from Painkiller
@@soundofominous4646 painkiller WAS their comeback. The two previous albums were so poorly received and 80s style metal was on the massive decline. Compared to maiden, dio, ozzy, and all of the other 80s metal legends, Painkiller reinvigorated Priest's career. People consider it to be one of the greatest comeback albums in the history of metal.
Judas Priest - Angel Of Retribution (2005)
First album with Rob Halford in 15 years, and what a comeback!
I love Alice In Chains and especially Layne. But damn! They made one hell of a comeback. Black Gives Way To Blue remains in my top 5 AIC albums ever, and The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here isn't too far off
They only made five studio albums, right?
Azatdawn yes, 5 full length studio albums and 2 EP's
Nick Name seriously? Let's go!
@@maxotto9877 Rainier Fog is the best album with Duvall, imo. Some of my favorite AIC lyrics on there, sludgey, grimey riffs, fantastic choruses all around, and stellar harmonies as always. Rainier Fog has a great feel to it all the way through.
I love the devil put dinosaurs here
WTF is this? Faith No More reunion in 2009. Halford reuniting with Judas Priest in 2003
Halford deserved to be on here no doubt.
They always have to put that shit ass band Bad Religion in every fucking list.
Tbf Judas was great with Tim Owens. I think that guy doesn't get the respect he deserves.
@@RafitoOoO their songs were weaker but still some good stuff sprinkled among the duo
How to fuck you gonna compare the popularity of ACDC to faith no more
at the gates - best reunion
Carcass by far ....
This is actually the best list by Loudwire so far. Good job!
But GnR, surely... and Priest reuniting with Rob
There will only be one Layne Staley but the reformed Alice In Chains with the new singer is awesome. Jerry Cantrell still kills it. RIP Layne
The return of Accept with Mark Tornillo beats most of the nominations on this list
I saw Black Sabbath in ‘83 with Deep Purple’s Ian Gillian on vocals. Good stuff.
rock and roll ain't noise pollution
Eddie rock and roll ain't gonna die
To me it makes good good sense!
Behemoth releasing “The Satanist” after Nergals battle with leukemia
I love how that snare sounds and how he does the fill
Love how Bad Religion's entry is for Suffer, but then they show footage from 8 years later when one of the founding members had left again
Brave New World is still a top 3 album for iron maiden honestly
How about a video about the top 10 folk metal/viking metal bands? :D would love to see that
Yeah. Alice in Chains FTW! Should be no. 1. Best comeback ever.
What..... AIC deserved to die with staley. Its an insult
THEHEADNDRO You're one of those bigoted morons. As much as I love the classic stuff with Layne I would say the reunited AiC sounds better and heavier than ever before. Layne is one of my favorite vocalists of all time. He's irreplaceable but Duvall is doing a fine job. You should clean your ears with a couple of cotton buds and then listen to their last two albums.
But if im bigoted, arent you bigoted for calling me a moron after hearing my opinion?? Aic was laynes therapy, how he expressed pain. You csnt just replace him. Just start a new band... Imagine if krist and dave slapped a cardigan on lenny kravitz and called it nirvana. Thats what aic's ridiculous dinosaur bullshit is. Obviously ive heard the albums, i needed them to be good. I was severely dissapointed.
THEHEADNDRO Jerry Cantrell is Alice in Chains. If Layne was the heart of AiC then Jerry is the soul. Almost 75% of AiC's songs are written by Cantrell. Not to mention all the Tony Iommi inspired sick, heavy riffs. As long as Cantrell is alive AiC will prevail. Doesn't matter if a handful of fans like you don't like it. Majority of the fans like the work of reunited AiC as much as their classic stuff.
THEHEADNDRO And please don't mention Nirvana again for the 100000th time while discussing AiC. The two bands are heaven and hell apart from each other. Nirvana is a punk band while AiC is primarily a Sabbathian heavy metal band with a few acoustic pieces from time to time.
Faith No More? Soundgarden?
I'm a hardcore Faith No More fan but their comeback record was disapointing.
+Manu fm I liked it! Not their best but really enjoyed it. I wish it had more songs but hopefully they drop one last album before they break up.
Renato Contreras Yeah, I don't think it was bad but it was nowhere near as good as Angel Dust or King For A Day
+Manu fm Those two are my favorite FNM records. I have a hard time deciding which I like more. Patton is one of the best musicians imo.
Renato Contreras Amen to that
Rush in 2002? Soundgarden's return after 13 years? Rob fucking Halford's return in Judas Priest?
EDIT: Dude how can I forget Nirvana's incredible return with Paul McCartney?
I like how for some they were like
“Uhhh, we’re out of reunions”
“Just throw in solo careers and new band mates joining”
I mean, it’s called “comebacks,” not “reunions”
Overkill with Ironbound is a comeback if I’ve ever seen one.
man, this list rocks! I would put AiC above as a big AiC fan, but no one could be higher than AC/DC, common, the guys made the rock's greatest after bon. It was like after Staley's death Cornell replaced him, haha.
Waitin on another comeback of RHCP..
Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules are better than many Ozzy's Sabbath releases.
And Ozzy's comeback after Randy was great too
We got john back in RHCP. Let's hope they make another californication
Cue the comments about what bands were not in the list.
Peter Boström cue in comments about cuing in comments.
How about when Black Sabbath came back with 13, or when Smashing Pumpkins came back with Oceania?
Smashing Pumpkins did have Zeitgeist at first which was a fucking travesty. But you are right Oceania was great, hoping that James and Jimmy (and maybe Darcy but probably not) will join for a new album with Billy :)
Michael Lord Same. :)
Sabbath came back with Reunion
@@scazermazz I'm talking about studio albums.
@@ginnrollins211 I'm talking about a recording with the original members. No Bill Not Sabbath. Same with Dio. No Ozzy, not Sabbath. Dio was good but not Sabbath. Same with Gillian. Same with all the albums where it was just Iommi. Not Sabbath. Iommi didn't want to use the Sabbath name, corporate forced it. Even he knew it wasn't Sabbath. From the original album to Never Say Die and then Reunion is Sabbath.
Iron Maiden's comeback should be 1. They went from playing in clubs (with Bayley) and releasing mediocre albums back to the top with Brave New World. They released one of their best albums 20 years into their career and then made a DVD from one of their best live performances in front of 300.000 people.
EXACTLY!!! Iron Maiden should have been on the #1 spot, because AC⚡DC never actually had a comeback, because they only replaced a singer, after releasing one of the greatest rock albums of all time! Iron Maiden had a TRUE comeback reunion, after Bruce and Adrian came back after they'd been gone for many years!
I think this needs a part 2
Hopefully another list like this with SOAD
Seeing actual footage of Randy Rhodes playing Crazy Train for the first time gave me fucking chills.
William DuVall is a worthy successor for Layne Staley.
What about santana, he came back in to the public eye with the biggest song of 1999
No KISS Reunion 1996-1997? Come on. Dang. That was a BEAST reunion.
Almost 1 year later on the dot, one of the biggest comebacks ever happens. 13 years of waiting.
Back in Black isn't really a comeback though, it was released one year after HtH, which was also highly acclaimed. Also Judas Priest with Angel of Retribution, come on guys how do you not include that.
+HaliniSnow
I was seriously expecting to see Priest on this list somewhere.
Celtic Frost Monotheist?
I agree, i don't think this channel even know who celtic frost are, didn't even announce martin ain's death recently.
Yep. I agree as well.
Atari2600Dude I think they're aware of Frost as they wrote a review of Triptykon's Melana Chasmata when it came out I reckon.
Whatever happened to Celtic Frost?
The Salty Seaman They went glam in 88 followed it up with a very weak album and then didn't do anything 16 years long until Monotheist came out, which is seen as their best album.
Metallica with Death Magnetic: The first thrash album the band produced in 20 years plus the Napster thing, Jason quitting, James in rehab, Lars and Kirk in therapy, etc!!!!
So the last album the band produced was And Justice for All?
@@ncrtrooper2856 first thrash centric album, yeah. It was a bit abrasive and the songs were fairly long but it was a lot faster and a bit more technical than anything since Justice
It's not epic enough to be in the Ultimate comeback list. No hate, but the album itself is pretty meh ish
@@akidk1499 yea, within 3 years, i find DM to be pretty meh-ish as well
My favorite comebacks are
Iron Maiden (Brave New World)
Aerosmith (Permanent vacation)
AC/DC (Back in Black and Power Up)
Motley Crue (their “final” tour)
Van Halen (Their final tour)
Megadeth (Dystopia)
Job. Frusciante with rhcp is the one for me and now they will be on this list twice
I saw deep purple on the perfect strangers tour in Niagara Falls ,ny. It was outstanding.
Where is Iron Maiden video from? The crowd sounds amazing!
Iron Maiden - Rock in Rio 2001
Thank you for putting the Chili Peppers on this list. They almost called it quits after One Hot Minute (highly underrated album btw) did not go so well in sales compared to BSSM. The only answer to their "problem" was to get John back on board. Fortunately, Flea did ask him and he emotionally accepted. What would have been if John refused?
Also, I might add Big Wreck with their Albatross album and Soundgarden with their King Animal album (and title track to The Avengers movie : Live to Rise)
Best line 'one hot minute (highly underated btw)'
Great to hear people respect that album! Love it!
#1 for me would be Swans. The Seer and To Be Kind are colossal records
aaah the wee geordie lad
out front of ac⚡️dc.
he sure can belt out a crackin sound.!
🤘🏻😆🇦🇺😆🤘🏻
One comeback that is legendary was the southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd after the death of lead vocalist & founding member Ronnie Van Zant along with 3 other members died in a plane crash in 1977 until 10 years later Ronnie little brother Johnny Van Zant reformed the band and took lead vocals.
this might not be one but what about ac/dc with PWRUP or the Iron Man II album
Good ones all. I probably would have replaced the DP selection with Celtic Frost for "Monotheist", which was an otherworldly good album. But I understand why DP is there and I support that selection
I was pretty young and never knew the whole Alice In Chains thing until I got older and I was amazed, the new guy sounds amazing and just like layne
At the drive-in's return was pretty big if u ask me
What about King Crimson coming back with Discipline in 80s?
where's eagles and guns n roses?
Eagles? well...I don't thik somebody in Loudwire listen to the Eagles, and Guns N' Roses haven't made a comeback with a proper album.
rasjeff1 thats true
What do you mean with Eagles? When did they made that comeback?
2007 ish I think, I think it was called the Road To Eden or something like that
They had their Hell Freezes Over tour in the mid-90s. Amazing band, but I understand why Loudwire doesn't pay attention to them... they are to mellow for their tastes
Oh my god.... list that I actually agree on
I'm surprised Queen is not on the list. When Adam Lambert joined the group, Queen were touring like crazy and were staging quite the big comeback.
Name of the song of the minute 3:39 i really apreciate it
after reading ozzys book him going solo with everything to lose was such a bad ass legendary move. But we also have to give equal praise to Sharon , if not for her nobody in the industry wanted to consider ozzy without B.S. .
only a few months later alice in chains (imo) out of their 6 albums n 2 acoustic things they release their third best album (rainier fog)
Surgical Steel was awesome! Carcass really polished their sound! As much as I love Reek, Steel is one of their best albums for a reason!
The OZZY return as a band, was a Masterpice.
But for me, a Iron Maiden mania, the return of Bruce, was the best return in Music.
Ps: i love Bruce, but.... My 2 favorites albuns, from Maiden, are the first 2,with Paul Dianno. IRON MAIDEN and KILLERS..
Misfits with Michael Graves, would be on the top of my list.
I think this years COC album with Pepper Keenan deserves to be on this list.
wow they got it right !
Update: MCR and rage
Kai Hansen's and Mikael Kisje returns to Helloween. That's the biggest come back in the hole history of metal
Faith No More?
Def Leppard - 1986 Donington Monsters of Rock. The band returns with Rick Allen after his car accident.
Pfft ofc Bruce returns should be #1
Anyone know which Carcass song was played?
1:46 ... is that a latex straightjacket???
2:47 Horns up. \m/
What that deep purple song at 2:09
Pantera reunion, but Vinnie and Dimebag are alive. Big time.
brave new world was a hell of an album. i actually like it better than some of the classics
Neil Peart rejoining Rush after the death of his wife and daughter to record Vapor Trails?
Tom Keifer of Cinderella should be in here ,man is a survivor!!!
Anthrax with Joey Belladonna again and the album Worship Music
Primus : After 12 years without a new album including a three-year hiatus, return with "Green naugahyde".
A few more you might've missed:
Dream Theater - Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory
Rush - Vapor Trails
Deftones - Diamond Eyes
Machine Head - Through the Ashes of Empires
Slipknot - .5: The Gray Chapter
Nightwish - Endless Forms Most Beautiful
Alter Bridge - One Day Remains
Savatage - Handful of Rain
Helloween - Master of the Rings
Fates Warning - Darkness in a Different Light
Fuck yeah!
AC/DC wouldn't exist anymore today if Back in black hadn't been the best hard rock record of all time.
How isn't Mark Tremonti, Brian Marshall, Scott Phillips and Myles Kenndedy on this list? The first three coming from creed and Myles coming from the Mayfield four to make alter bridge is surely a great comeback story
anyone know what alice in chains song is played on the list?
Get that Ronie Dio SH out of my face. Ozzie Rules!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cant wait for the green day undeserved hate comments
Mirko Žaja they're great! This, coming from a Pantera fan,who appreciates all things good..or at least I try!
Ahsan Rasul Khan Mahsud I was primarily a Metallica fan and wanted to see why everyone hates green day, aaaand long story short I ended up listening to all of their albums
Mirko Žaja Huh, an open minded man! Lord knows we need more of those.
Ahsan Rasul Khan Mahsud thanks man, cheers \m/
Mirko Žaja im a big fan of them and never seen a haters that much and yes it was a big comback with american idiot ana i qlso watched a video about them where they literally was going to retired after releasing warning but.......🙂
