It always cracks me up when I think that Ewan McGregor's older brother Colin McGregor was an RAF Tornado GR4 pilot, and his call sign was "Obi-2".

When Anakin and Padmé married in secret, R2-D2 and Anakin's protocol droid, C-3PO, were the sole witnesses to the marriage. As wedding gifts, Anakin and Padmé exchanged droids, meaning R2-D2 officially became Anakin's own astromech and C-3PO to Padme. And you will see them together alot of times.

When i saw this in theaters, the rude snicker the audience made as the lightsaber came out was choked off in the battle cry and absolute stunned audience as Yoda proceeded to teach the audience to "judge him not by size for his ally is the force, and a powerfull ally it is!"

Notice the silhouettes just before Anakin went to find his mother? Anakin's shadow resembled Vader. And that was Tatooine, where Luke lived

The relationship between Anakin and Padme has more sense with the deleted scenes from the original footage. If you can take a look at these deleted scenes, you will like it even more. It´s a great chemistry.

Are you fucking kidding!? It makes no sense and it's incredibly cringeworthy, as it's always been. Only the generation that watched this as children sees it as "great chemistry."

When Padme and Ani went to Naboo, these colorful scenes of a square and surroundings, were filmed in Plaza de España in Sevilla, Spain. Also, the lake scenes are from Italy (Lake Como).

Let me add some interesting details to better enhance your viewing of this movie:
    - When Kenobi and Anakin enter the night club Obi-Wan says "Why do I feel like you're going to be the death of me?" foreshadows when Vader kills him in A New Hope. Somewhat of a dark inside joke.
    - Right after Obi-Wan cuts Zam's hand off in the club the camera focuses on two groups of people. Among them is Anthony Daniels, the actor who plays C-3PO. Then Ahmed Best, the actor who plays Jar-Jar binks. Off to the left of that frame is a pink-skinned twi'lek. That's Lucas' daughter Katie Lucas.
    - Changelings are in fact shapeshifters.
    - This was the first mention of Master Syfo-Dyas. We don't find out his story until later episodes of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars TV show which ultimately explains how the clone army was commissioned and it all ties back to Count Dooku and Lord Sidious.
    - It's been confirmed in Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi that Count Dooku deleted Kamino from the archives in order to keep the creation of the clone army a secret.
    - The spot where Anakin and Padme kiss is now a very popular tourist spot where couples like to recreate the scene from the film.
    - The clones are "clonetroopers" as opposed to "stormtroopers." It's not really all that confusing. The clones came first and established an army for the Republic. These would eventually be phased out by conscripted soldiers trained to be stormtroopers. During the time of the Empire there were very few clones still serving. We see the transition take place in Star Wars: The Bad Batch and we also see stormtrooper training in Star Wars: Rebels.
    - The seismic charges deployed by Slave-1 are very unique. The impressive part is not so much the sound they make when they explode, but rather the fact that they consume all of the sound right before they do so. If you watch it again notice how as they're right about to explode all of the sound from the film just vanishes. The charge uses it and multiplies it in order to create a catastrophic wave of cutting sound.
    - It appears you guys missed it, but the moment Anakin starts slaughtering the tusken raiders you can hear a voice in the background going "Anakin! Nooo!" That is the spirit of Qui-Gon trying to reach out to him through the Force. Yoda briefly catches it while he was meditating but at the moment did not know what it was.
    - Star Wars: The Clone Wars (the movie and TV show) take place right after this film and officially ends during the events of Episode 3. The events of the last episode of the series takes place at the same time as those of Episode 3 but in a different part of the galaxy. You see what other characters were up to while certain events were taking place on Coruscant. According to official sources the Clone Wars lasted approximately 3 standard galactic years.
This movie might not be the best one of the prequels, but it's the one that really kicks off the best thing about the prequels and that is the Clone Wars. So much happens. New characters introduced, a lot of new lore is introduced, a lot of backstory is given, etc. For a lot of fans this is their favorite spot on the timeline and it's probably the one with the most content currently available. It's definitely worth a watch. Some of the best Star Wars stories happen during the Clone Wars and there's a lot more foreshadowing with Anakin. You also get to see him evolve into a Jedi Knight throughout the war. Despite it being a prequel era event it has ramifications that lead into current Star Wars like The Mandalorian and other TV shows.

I highly recommend checking the 2003 2D Clone Wars animated series. Unlike the 3d version, you get to see Anakin's knighthood, his first time using the dark side to fight an enemy, and even the night Luke and Leia were conceived if you look carefully lol
Besides de 2D series starts right after Episode II and end right before Episode III, so it is like a 2 hour movie between George's movies.

Count Dooku had the chance to cut any limb of Obi Wan but he "only" hurted him. That´s because Obi Wan was Qui Gon Jinn´s apprentice; like Qui Gonn was his own apprentice once. Dooku, although he turned to the dark side, loved a lot Qui Gonn and, thinking about him, he didn´t want to hurt more than necessary at Qui Gonn´s apprentice. And only attacked him again to provoke the Anakin jump to block him (anticipation).

To get even deeper with everything, Yoda was Dooku’s master, and Dooku was Qui-Gon Jin’s master, who of course then went on to train Obi-Wan and almost Anakin if it wasn’t for Darth Maul. All the major players in this movie are interconnected

Hey guys! Really am enjoying watching your reactions to the Star Wars movies! As someone who has seen the movies so many times it entertains me to see Steph’s reaction to the movies for the first time! Been watching your reactions since A New Hope.
You guys should definitely check out The Clone Wars! It’s such an amazing show! But start with the movie first! The movie is essentially the first 4 episodes of the series. The movie and the show take place after Attack of the Clones and before Revenge of the Sith. My favourite Star Wars character comes from The Clone Wars! The show also adds so much lore to the story. And makes Anikan’s fall into Darth Vader much more tragic than you see in the movies. I hope to see your reactions to all of it!

Great piece of the SW universe. Some notes for you along the way as usual:
    1. Jedi can see things before they happen, like when Anakin jumps out of the vehicle. If they are calm and focused the future becomes clearer, but it´s always in motion also. Anakin is concieved by the midichlorians, so for him it´s much easier. He is getting extremely attuned with the force.
    2. The assassin they called a changer, is an alien species known as Clawdite. They can shapeshift at will. During the chase in the air you will see its original form for just a second.
    3. Notice the purple color of Mace Windu`s lightsaber. His combat style is form VII; also known as vaapad. This style walk the thin line close to the dark side by using aggressive emotions. Seems like a more brutal form for being jedi, but only the most serious and powerful of minds can handle this form.
Though red lightsabers are for sith (the dark side) only, some sith use purple lightsabers when they are somewhat close to the light side in some aspects. The purple lightsaber is also called twilight for that very reason.
    4. The Clone Wars series takes place as you said between the second and third movie. It explans the war more in detail and the many more multiple choices Anakin made to join the dark side. It makes Anakins fall to make more sense. The war lasts for three years. It would love if you went through it. =) Awesome series!
Once again, awesome and REAL reactions. Greeting from me and my wife here in Sweden.

BASICALLY, Attack of the Clones has a lot to set up which is The Clone War mentioned in A New Hope why did happen, why did the galaxy get split in two, why did the Jedi go along with it , how did Anakin fall in love with Padme, what is a clone, what is the Confederacy of Independent systems and why did they form ( which eludes to the Civil War ) who was Count Dooku and why did he want to leave the Republic, and many other issues like where the Death Star came from or Obi-wans "issues" with Anakin. I love ALL the Star Wars films equally personally because ULTIMATELY it's actually one story broken down into six chapters. 😎👍🏾

It’s the one I watch the least of the prequels too. Mainly because, and nothing against Hayden Christensen, I couldn’t stand Anakin’s written character. But the ‘Braveheart’ clash between Jedi and Droids in the middle of the Geonosis gladiator stadium was awesome!

    • @alancoy5305
      @alancoy5305 2 дні тому

I agree about Anakin's written character. I feel his character should have been closer to temperament to The Character JED played by Patrick Swayze in Red Dawn 1984. Anakin's true nature and personality would have shown more in this film with that type of written character. Also, Thank You for taking the blame off of Hayden Christensen himself. A great and thoughtful post. I agree, the gladiator scene was superb.

    • @CoffeeMatt10
      @CoffeeMatt10 День тому

The thing about how he is written, I think he’s written well in terms of how we see his gradual fall to the Dark Side (he wants more and quickly, and gets frustrated and angry when he sees he isn’t powerful enough, like when he couldn’t save his mother), but the dialogue is not so great… but George Lucas himself admitted he’s not the greatest at writing dialogue, and a fair amount of the original trilogy dialogue was ad libbed by the cast (particularly Harrison Ford)… the cast for the prequels had too much respect for George and the universe he had created, and didn’t have the same willingness to adjust the dialogue to sound more natural, and better.
I think Hayden, and the rest of the cast, did the best with what they had to work with. He portrayed Anakin’s darkness really well, and I think that’s the most important thing, it’s the story of his fall to the Dark Side and we need to be convinced that he has that darkness inside of him.

    Info dump:
-Sifo Dyas was a Jedi Master who had a vision during which he saw a galactic war and the end of the Jedi. He told the Council but noone believed him. So he went to the Kaminoans and ordered the creation of the Clone Army, saying that the Republic needed it (lie). He was later killed. This part of lore is shown in the Clone Wars show.
-ABOUT EPISODE 3 (not sure who's reading it, so SPOILERS!): Dooku and Palpatine found out about it and manipulated the Kaminoans into putting the chip inside the Clones' heads (Order 66), even though some Kaminoans (probably the Prime Minister) knew all about it and still went along with the Sith plan. Dooku deleted the planet from the archives just after the end of Episode I
-As you said the Clones are not the Stormtroopers. During the war the Clones started showing personalities and self-thinking (dangerous for the Empire). So Palpatine disbanded the army during early imperial era and replaced them with Stormtroopers.
-The cool part is that this movie sets up Anakin's turn not just with the Sand People scene, but also showing the Jedi's hypocrisy. The first line Windu says is "We're keepers of the peace, not soldiers". At the end of the movie that's literally what they become: soldiers. The Jedi were meant to end (or fall, if nothing changed), with or without Anakin's turn.
Unrelated to all this, I realize it could be a long commitment, but watching at least some arcs from the Clone Wars would enhance the movies' experience a lot. Many episodes from early season are quite childish and not that good, but especially from Season 3 and moving forward they get better and better. It shows not only the war but goes deepers in the characters relationships (Obi Wan, Anakin, Padmè, Palpatine, Yoda, etc) and show Anakin's padawan growing and becoming a fan favourite character. Also, the final episodes are among the best stuff in all the franchise, and those last episodes are the only ones that happen DURING Episode III.
At the same time, the short show "Tales of the Jedi" shows Dooku's fall to the Dark Side.

The funny thing is Sifo Djas was said wrong but they dcided to keep it, orignally it was an anagram for Sidious, and was Darth Sidious pretending he was a Jedi Master asking for the clones. But as they carried over with the mistaken name, they finally came up with a different character, and in a way they generated a background for a now dead Jedi Master instead of the original planning.

Hi Liam and Steph. There are TWO (very) different versions of Clone Wars. One year after the release of Attack of the Clones, Cartoon Network released a 2D micro-series called "CLONE WARS" , which is about two hours long in total. It was mostly 2D animation with beautiful hand-painted backgrounds and a very strong style of design. I strongly recommend watching that one BEFORE Episode III, cause it's like a movie. The creator, Genndy Tartakovsky (creator of "Dexter's Lab" and "Samurai Jack"), called it Episode 2.5 as a joke, but it really does felt like that to his crew. It's on Disney+ as well, kind of hidden.
The 2nd version of it, is called "THE Clone Wars" and that's a full CGI series with cinematic aspects that George Lucas worked directly on. It has 5 seasons from Lucas, and two later seasons from Disney, so you can choose where to end it cause both finales have slightly different narratives. This series as George described them, is not supposed to be a tie-in, it's instead a footnote to the saga. So this one is better to watch AFTER the 6 films.
BTW, Ep II: Attack of the Clones is my favorite of the 6, the pacing I believe favors the style of the movie. It's also Spielberg's favorite too. Great reaction!

I love this movie, I actually think it's the most underrated Star Wars film. I saw it when it came out and had it on VHS as a kid, watched the hell out of it. Syfo Dias actually did order the clone army. He was the one who brought the idea to the Jedi Council but the Jedi Council refused and removed him from the council. But Syfo Dias refused to let it go and secretly ordered the clone army. But was killed shortly after by someone else, Count Dooku. Who erased Kamino from the Jedi Database since no one knew Dooku had turned until now, they didn't prevent his access to the Jedi Temple.
They didn't expect Obi Wan to have a friend who would know where to look.

Great reaction as always . Glad to hear Steph is better .
I am with both of you on this , although this is a good entry in the prequels it is not my fave and I agree the best one of the prequels is Revenge of the Sith basically I think as Revenge is closest to the original trilogy in tone .
Attack of the Clones is a good entry but the pacing is a bit all over the place and although I love Christopher Lee as an actor who is reliably great in everything as Saruman or Dracula or the Scientist in Gremlins 2 he is no Darth Maul and I think maybe that is why this is not the best , and I really agree that it does have good sequences but overall not a strong entry but certainly not unwatchable either .
Hayden Christensen got a lot of flak for Anakin but I think he is pretty good and the scene when he kills the Sand People and the following scene where he breaks down to Padme is very powerful , also in the last few years appearing in Ahsoka and the Obi Wan series he has been getting a lot more appreciation from the fans which is great .
Speaking of Padme I love the way when they are on Naboo her outfits get sexier and sexier like she is tempting the poor boy LOL . Ewan is great as always as are the rest of the cast , Natalie , Sam , Ian etc all give their all as always , and Temura Morrisons brief appearance as Jango Fett is great too and also now plays into later shows where he returns as Boba in Mandalorian , Book of Boba Fett and a brief appearance in Obi Wan show which adds more consistency to later entries .
Unfortunately Attack shows that writing romantic dialogue is not George Lucas strong point and some of it is a bit cringe , the effects are as great as always and the big battle at the end with all the Jedi and then the Clone troopers arrive has a ton of great battle scenes , and Yoda duelling with Dooku is a great scene and very funny when Dooku flees and Yoda picks up his stick and toddles off LOL .
The animated series Clone Wars is really great it ran for 7 seasons and is set after Attack and before Revenge and fills in the gaps , the early episodes especially the ones with Jar Jar are aimed a bit more at younger viewers but is worth sticking with and later episodes are very adult in tone dealing more with effects of war etc , season 4 has a particularly great 3 part story with a great twist , in Clone Wars you will meet Ahsoka Tano who later gets her own series as well as the Droid Huyang and Bo Katan who appears a lot in Mandalorian , as well as Clone Wars you have Rebels which is good and Bad Batch which is also good , also there is Tales of the Jedi , and tales of the Sith but Clone Wars I think is my favourite of the animated shows .
Really looking forward to your reaction to Revenge which like I said is my favourite of the prequels .
After you do Revenge I hope you react to Rogue one which is in my opinion the best of the modern movies and introduces the awesome Cassian Andor who later gets his own show which I think is easily the best of the Disney + SW Shows .
Keep up the great content guys . 👍👍👍👍👍
On a very different note please check out Longlegs a incredibly atmospheric and unsettling thriller starring Maika Monroe and Nicholas Cage its really great .

The most exposition heavy of all the films. Lots of talking about things, places and persons not seen in the story/screen so far, such as Syfo Dyaz, Count Dooku, Separatists, Kamino before they are introduced on screen. You are left to absorb and keep all that information with you until the later acts. For a first time watcher, it is all a bit much to take in. Phantom Menace did all of this better, you knew who the enemies were and what they were planning from the scenes of Sidious with Maul and trade federation leaders, even if the Jedi did not. It was interspersed and gave urgency to what was going on at the moment. Note that in this, we do not see Dooku until the final act.
Further, something about the sound design, clearness of conversations between characters during those expositions were not that high quality compared to other films I feel like. The shots are usually wider-shots from the characters in most cases where this happens.
A more general thing is that it is clearly a setup episode for the the next film. Setup of the galactic dissent, setup of the two armies, setup of Anakin's dark deeds later on in the next film. It just does not have the same urgencies/payoffs as the other films.

Thank you; well said. Was going to write something similar and you saved me time.
This film definitely isn’t exciting as others. Like you and Liam (in their post-watch discussion) both say, it is a set-up; not only for this “three act play” of the prequels, but the original trilogy as well.

I think you guys would enjoy "Star Wars: the Clone Wars"- series (2008-). It takes place a few months after Episode II and goes over all the years the war lasts, and even up and into Episode III. The Clone Wars series lets you follow along with Anakin, Obi-Wan and other famous characters as they fight this huge war against the Seperatists, but most would say that the Clones themselves are the real stars of the show. They are made into actual characters, a far cry from the almost robot-like clones of the movies. This is all canon too, so all signed on by Lucas himself. Anakin is also a way more interesting character in the show, he shows a lot of leadership qualities and his clone troopers like him, none of that "angsty-teen"-stuff.
The series starts with a movie actually (from 2008), it is not the greatest, but alright - however it is pretty essential as it introduces a certain important character (Ahsoka) and sets up the first arc of the series, so not adviceable to skip it.
The series itself was aired out of order, so the episodes for the first 3 seasons are unfortunately in the wrong chronological order. There are several websites that list them in the correct order, so if you are going to give the series a try, follow one such list. It may sound strange, but just do it.
The series was concieved for children at first, but it progressively turns more into an adult show by season 3 an onwards, so don't judge the early seasons too harshly - they have some rough animation and silly plots at times, but the seed of greatness is there from the start.
If you hate the show, that is your loss :)

This was two movies crammed into one, IMO. You can almost see that it was two 3-act structures with a couple of the acts removed. Definitely the weakest with some good parts.
The Clone Wars tv series are a bunch of episodes that take place between movies 2 and 3. In fact, if I remember correctly, the final episode takes place during the events of the third movie.
If you want to tackle it off-screen, I’d watch the third movie before the series just to avoid spoilers. It was an overall good series. Overall.

For me, Episode 2 is all "set-up" and a transition between the introduction and the pay-off. It has all the burden of advancing the story without any of the glory. Episode 1 has all the introduction reveals. Episode 3 has the climax and payoff.

The Clone Wars really worth a watch guys. It starts out a bit crude ( in animation style ) and childish but by season 3 they really found their footing and refined the process of producing it and it shows. The animation quality really increases and the storytelling becomes much more serious ( even dark at times ). By the end it is really amazing, some of the best Star Wars content out there. The events of the show takes place after this one and seamlessly integrate into the 3rd.
Also I'll be honest, If I was Anakin sitting next to Padme and she was wearing that leather dress I would have folded just as quickly. I mean what was she even thinking lol. Nah Ani we cant do it but hey don't I look absolutely stunning in this dress? :D

The Clone Wars takes place between two and three. Definitely worth watching, especially since that's the end as nothing made by Disney is cannon.

For me personally the reason why this episode is somehow the least favorite is Anakin's character: he can be annoying, arrogant, jealous, has a temper and is very impatient. The actor playing him, Hayden Christensen, not a very good choice I think. I can appreciate his character's recklessness and skills though. I like the Anakin from the animated series The Clone Wars a lot more, he looks more mature and stable. If you two are planning to watch these series you'll see what I mean. I really enjoy watching with you guys, you're such a nice couple, I really mean that and I'm lookin forward to the third episode!

I hope you guys watch the 7 seasons of the cgi Clone Wars series. The movies show a clever kid, to a angry teenager, to a mono symbol moody character we just can't identify with. The series is much much better. We see a humorous, wise crackling, cocky Anakin's slow transition into what he becomes over the seven seasons.. along with his great relationships with Obi Wan and his padawan. Also answers many questions asked but not answered about Dooku and Sifo-Dyas. Thanks for the vid... and Happy new Year😀
The series starts a little after the events of Attack of the Clones and ends within the events of Revenge, so you'll see additional events of characters from the series running along at the same time and the resolution of the movie.

The problems with episode #2 are 1) The relationship between Anikan and Padme was very rushed on screen. The original version had so many “love scenes” cut out, her love for Anikan just didn’t feel believable. 2) At times there was some really weird acting and dialogue that doesn’t feel authentic. Like when Mace Windu said, “This party is over.” Those odd moments end up tainting my emersion in the story by reminding me I’m watching a movie.

as a star wars fan, i'm able to appreciate this film in my own ways, but for general audiences, i don't think any of them are wrong for not liking this. there are many ways to show ignorance and rebellion. the way it was done for anakin is simply akward to watch. clearly that was the intention, but you can do too much. hard to feel for someone that you don't really like to begin with. i guess i would have preferred the house was painted a slightly different shade of white (if you know you know).

"WE can't Anakin... I'M A SENATOR !" - guess they are not like our senators then !
The problem is the writing and the editing. So much of this is either people sitting on couches with just two shots either side, or two people walking down a corridor with just two shots either side. This was the problem with the initial Star Wars ep IV cut before Lucas' wife got involved and re-edited to generate more pace.
