I have lived here since 2014, it is a very quiet city and I can walk at any time without any problem, the police are always on the lookout and all the public servants are very friendly, I come from a city called Culiacán, Mexico...there Corruption of the police was normal, decapitated bodies and hanging bodies, the Sinaloa cartel ruled there, I am very happy to be here, it is another world.

I grew up in Hawthorne. Moved in in 1962, moved away in 1982. It WAS a wonderful place to grow up. Very little crime back then, moved my mother out of there in 1995 because of the crime.

You are exaggerating that. You and many others moved out because minorities started moving in as what was typical in a lot of cities in the South Bay. I grew up there from '86-'03. The only detrimental event was the '92 riots. Other than that, there wasn't much going on around the city apart from typical crime you would find in any city.

@@Cal3000 Im not exaggerating....had friends on the police force that told us to "get your elderly parents out of there"! Perhaps you numb to the crime.

@@fg3568 straight exaggeration. I grew up there for 18 years and witnessed almost nothing.

@@fg3568as a native, it’s very safe now, as the South Bay has gotten only more expensive over the years, it forced all the undesirables to move.

It's the pervasive smell from the refineries that makes me skirt Hawthorne. Has always been a repellent.

Ah yes, Hawthorne it looks cool now but at one point in the early 90’s it was ROUGH. I think it peaked when the Hawthorne Mall was in full swing. Looks cool now, I’m glad. I guess SpaceX brought it back.

Doesn’t look safe, maybe for young singles with lower incomes but for families I rather live in OC and drive to LA for work.

5:41 You don't build new-construction houses at "Torrance or Redondo prices" in Hawthorne, though that price would only get you an old house at 1500ish sq. ft. at most in Torrance or Redondo. Doesn't make sense, and hence the 8 month listing with no buyers. That's like Kia trying to sell a "new model" at Porsche prices. It's not difficult to see this ahead of time. But I guess some developers who buy properties for "cheap" don't slow down, do real analysis, connect the dots, etc. Greed will blind you to reality.
Hawthorne does not have a good public school district. That's why it's not popular. My mom's side of the family lived there from the early 1970's until the mid 80's and then moved to Torrance. My uncle even went to Hawthorne High during the late 70's. The side west of Hawthorne Bl. has nice pockets. But Hawthorne isn't where I'd want to raise my kids. People aren't hip to the idea of spending $30K+ a year to send them to private schools. A good public school district, low crime, and beauty dictate real estate prices. I guess only + side to Hawthorne is the proximity to the 405, LAX, the 105.
