Another great discussion between you two, and I really appreciated the chance to hear more about Davood’s book and work. Explaining the details of the academic system was also appreciated, and I like the attention you drew between the gap of what is said and what is delivered, as well as the strangeness of having a study on the connection between love and focus, doing the study in six months, and then never approaching or thinking about the topic again, suggesting a radical disconnect between the researcher and the research. I also like the idea that people need to learn different genres of writing, as well as there being a problem when “content” and “style” are not brought together. Philosophy does seem unique in its capacity to be its own criticism, and I like the point that other fields will have to pull from philosophy to engage in criticism well. It’s also amazing to think the Replication Crisis is due to a lack of real thinking…Dang…The Deleuze vs Freud point (we repress so repeat vs we repeat and so repress) was also amazing…The idea Specialists are waiting for Generalists to give them meaning…Just a great talk all around!

Thanks for your comment, Daniel. I do feel like this conversation with Davood helped me to think through that Deleuze/Freud distinction on repression and repetition. I think it is an incredibly important and fruitful distinction to play with, as evidence with its potential practical application to what is commonly referred to as "The Replication Crisis" in psychology.
An interesting point on the relation between specialists and generalists in science, is that although specialists may present themselves, whether consciously or unconsciously, as waiting for generalists to give meaning to their niche work, in practice, generalists have absolutely no respect, credibility or institutional power, and specialists actually pay them no attention.
In my work at the Bertalanffy Center for the Study of Systems Science, I did have the idea that there needs to be more active attempts to create a loop of intellectual dialogue between specialists and generalists, there does not really seem to be too much appetite for this. I am not really sure the reasons why other than that academics are actually very socially inept, territorial and defensive. Real dialogue is actually hard to develop here. Which is a big reason, I think, for the whole movement towards dialogos/circling and so forth in some intellectual internet circles, it is an effect of this lack in the academic intellectual environment.

“We know nothing about politics” love that you quote Sean Carroll on that…if I heard you correctly. Audio was a little muddled. Thanks for these talks, your curiosity!

I have had this open on my laptop since it was posted, and only now have been able to have the time to listen through. Fantastic conversation I will be going back to.
25:30 “every now and then there is a philosopher that announces the death of philosophy.” Haha, many philosophers hate philosophy so much so, they only study it so that they can get rid of it all. 😅
"Spiritualize Academia" is my new moto, and I much prefer the term "general thinker" over "pop scientist/pop philosopher." I will have to adopt that term as well.

Also, I had no idea there was a follow up book to Experimental Psychology and Human Agency! I am not sure how I have missed this, but looking up now!

@@attention5638 Thank you, Pae! And, yeah, the follow-up book is a collection of contributions by various authors. I have a hard copy of it with your name on it - something for our next meetup in Montreal or Toronto. Hope you're doing well, my friend.

@@DavoodGozli All the more reason to head back out there! Maybe by then, I too will have another publication out, as there are two in the works!😎

@@attention5638 @DavoodGozli I haven't read the follow up book yet, but I would love to. Maybe we should organise something in the future around that topic, because I want to do anything I can to help make Davood's emphasis on reflective science and psychology more of a reality. Would also be great if we could coordinate in Toronto the next time I return to Canada. Thanks for listening in Pae 🥰

@@DavoodGozli would love to brain storm something cool for the follow-up book. Maybe we could do a book discussion with some of the authors? 🤔
