In virginia it was illegil to emancipate your slaves, Thomas Jefferson ran for governor himself to end this law but failed. You can learn about that in Thomas jefferson's autobiography chapter 1.
He could have done it when he became President.

George Washington could have had throat cancer, maybe since the base of his false teeth were made of lead. My sister suffered from tongue cancer which is genetic. We are related directly through his mother Mary. Too bad they did not have hospice. I mean why did the Doctors have to try to cure him with such drastic measures.
The disease that he had was fairly new so the doctors were clueless on how to treat it.
