Microsoft RDS Session-Host vs. VDI Based Deployment

Can the Session Host be a VM, or should it be a physical server (like the RD Virtualization host)?

On Session based can i run my other non-web based application like SAP? can a user from home using own PC perform VPN and connect to RDS via VDI with multiple user concurrently?
