Katana sheaths don't usually fall off that easily. Most Katana sheaths hold it in place even if it's held like that. If it falls, then it wasn't constructed properly. However, it's best to just hold it correctly.
Lmao that's what I thought as well, but maybe because the katana is merely a replica and not made for an actual fight, that's probably why it's not as good as the real deal. Still though, it's pretty dangerous.
The blade should not slide out. Part of the function of the Habaki is to keep the blade snug. Often katana users will have to pop the sword out by pushing their thumb on the Tsuba. If your sword is sliding out it wasn’t made correctly
Exactly what I was thinking. They made it seem as if tipping the handle downwards slightly will make the whole thing slide out. Only case I see something like what happens in the video other than bad manufacturing/wear and tear, is they never actually fully put it back in.
even authentic katana can have loose fits, it all depends on the wear on the fittings. sayas are wood so they obviously get worn down by metal habaki, and katana aren't meant to be super snug that in itself is bad manufacturing

was about to say the same thing here. agreed. the only katanas I've ever come across that "fall out" of their scabbards are the cheap flea market type crap that are primarily display pieces. the proper "battle ready" variety that I've got and handled over the years have ALL had a solid tight fit that prevent the blade from just falling out.
I do own one and it’s actually a pretty scary thing to handle. I was surprised how easily the tip penetrated things which usually isn’t even the thing you see in videos. My respect for them went up tremendously after seeing what it is capable of up close. I keep it clean and in a stand and only rarely take it out for inspection.
UNLESS, ofcourse, the habaki is made well enough so that it won't slide out easily, but also not be a tight fit. Japanese craftsmen had a specialist for most parts of the katana and the habaki was a very important part as it prevented the blade from falling out of the saya. It's still important to hold the tsuba, but it shouldn't really fall out automatically if you tilt it too much. I could hold my katanas upside down by the sheathe and wouldn't fall out unless I'd do any rough movements.
Anime has been preparing me for this my whole life 👁️👄👁️ Edit: Well getting all of these likes was unexpected indeed. Also for the people in the comments it's a joke lol 😭
you just added a new fear in my mind, craziest part is I may never get a chance to hold a katana but still this fear is etched into my brain forever!!! 😂😂
Properly made katana should have a retention, caled "seal". There are even different techniques of breaking a seal. If your katanas slide out so easily, than they are not properly made
Exactly, you can use the thumb to push on the tsuba to pop the seal. Not to just prevent it from sliding out. As you said, a properly fitted sword will never “fall out”
Thank you, this was the reply I was looking for. So many people here are just consuming this nonsense, any authentic katana will have this feature. Saying the sword will just, "slip out" is pure madness, the thumb on the tsuba is also essential for drawing the sword in a swift motion
If you want form fitting, then you'll have to pay more for a custom. you're paying for mass-produced the shelf parts. Was thinking of wrapping the cling film around the blade and spray mould release, then pour silicone into the saya. Slip the blade in and let it set. But I don't know how the silicone would react with the carbon steel.
@@stevenstocker9873 Even cheap mass-produced katanas have a seal unless they are utter garbage. I have a $30 one that was the first in my collection, and it will not just fall out of the sheath unless it was not put back in properly in the first place. You could hold it upside-down and shake it and it wouldn't fall out. And again, only $30!

Anime has been preparing me for this my whole life 👁️👄👁️

there are two types of people , people with katanas and people with friends

I have both, what does that make me then?
@@EdgeGilid you're obviously schizophrenic
Oi why did you delete that lmao

Also, place your thumb not in the middle, but to the right side of the tsuba, unless you want your thumb to be cut in half.

@PhoenixFyre13 , well my kill bill ten ryu bride sword, has this problem as does my koto katana, which set me back 90-100 quid each...
