  • Changing the brush carrier and the brushes on this makita lxt 18v angle grinder. The parts kit to fix this were €20 which means that this makita angle grinder lives again. These grinders are very robust and this one has had a hard life but reliable until the brushes wore out after 12 years of use.

All these boys worked hard to have a bench like this . A clean environment to work on tools

Hi Gerry, glad to see you were able to get it going again. I have some old tools as well that I’ve repaired over the years. Saved quite a bit of money by repairing them instead of tossing them out and replacing them. Nowadays most people would trash an old tool and spend a fortune on a new one. Great minds think alike!😊

Very good! You saved a nice tool from the scrap box. That new lighting is a great addition to your work bench Gerry!
    Happy Trails my friend.

I have all Makita battery powered tooling. One of my hammer drills burned up, melted the brush carrier, overwrorking the hell out of it. I thought it was trash, but I opened it up, Ordered a new brush carrier and brushes and replaced them and it's good as new.

👍Well done Marcel. It's a little fiddly but not hard to do and nice to be able to do things yourself. Hope things are well with you. Thanks for commenting. Cheers Gerry🍻👍

It's always cheaper to fix it than buy a new one. I do it all the time. No matter the tool.

Hi Stanley. It's great that you can fix stuff yourself and save a packet. Much better than sending it to landfill. Thanks for commenting Cheers Gerry👍

Hi Eyetoldyoosso. The summer is great so far and I'm not doing much work because of this Covid thing. Now that some of the restrictions are lifted I am looking to get more flying done with the good weather. I have a few projects on the go here too. Hope you're BBq is hopped out of it 🍻Thanks for commenting Cheers Gerry

Nice job mate, the grease I think was a good idea, was that copper grease if yes not sure if that’s a good choice for that but some grease has to be better than none.

half things I have in toolshop comes from garbage
(you can find dewalt 18v, just battery out of order, for exemple).
No money, and in france dewalt etc is 3x more expensive

when you take things apart with screws in the plastic
each screw leaves a very specific imprint
if you deform the thread, with the vibrations,
this is not very good, they can come loose
to be sure to put the screw back in its original location
I take egg boxes (by 30, those in large plate)
and install the removed screws in the cells corresponding to the original location
it is also very useful of course for engines ...
