  • www.crosstrainingenduro.com How to splat on a dirt bike! This is another enduro training vid from the 70+ enduro technique vids. The splatter, or splat for short, is an advanced trials technique for obstacles like vertical rock faces, a wide gap, very high ledges or undercut obstacles.
    Trials bikes are very light so a skilled rider can do a splat by simply weighting and deweighting the bike, along with clutch and throttle control. It's harder with an enduro bike, but the splat, or splatter, is still a very useful advanced enduro technique.Before trying the splat, make sure you master some basic skills first, such as weighting, deweighting, using kickers, and jumping gaps.
    A splat means trying to flip your bike which is hard to get your brain around, but a very useful cross training skill.

    Your natural instinct is to prevent a backflip by moving your body forward when doing the splat. These vids provide insights on how to ride dirt bikes through free enduro training vids, featuring riding techniques from Chris Birch, Graham Jarvis and other top extreme enduro riders to form the concept of cross training - a blend of trials and enduro techniques including the splat!
    If the kicker is close to the obstacle, ride slower. If the kicker is further away, ride faster when doing a splatter or splat. An experienced rider can do a controlled drop of the clutch to get extra lift. It is always a good idea to have spotters for these more advanced techniques, for when things go wrong doing a splat.
    Check out the trials training vid for the splat too, you can usually see the technique more clearly on the trials bikes.
    What is the common feature of all the world's best extreme enduro riders who can do splats? They are all former trials champions who applied who have applied trials techniques like the splatter to their dirt riding skills to tackle some of the world's toughest extreme enduro events. I went on a nice ride yesterday, weather was perfect and it was about 70 degrees. I have been doing a lot of cross training recently, so when I went on the ride with all of my friends they were amazed how I was able to make my 500 two stroke flow like a 250 through the enough stuff.
    I have been riding up to two gears higher than I normally would, which means I will be in third gear when only going 10 mph when I used to use first. I now use my clutch at almost all times, and it is amazing the traction difference by keeping rpm in the low end, and use letting the grunt pull you instead of spinning the tire the whole time.

      @crosstrainingenduro  7 років тому +1

      so cool isn't it? and yet you'll often find you are keeping up with or going faster than guys hitting the rev limiter and roosting everywhere. :)

      CROSS TRAINING ENDURO SKILLS Auto correct completely picked my first comment but that is auto correct for you.
      Back when I had a tm 300 it was so smooth power wise that I was always in the bottom 30% of the rpm's just letting the bike do the work, and it really helped my riding. I have a long history of desert racing, so the first time I tried some tight stuff I had no idea what to do!

      no system is perfect but in many european countries these dodgy attempts to sue at the drop of a hat are just laughed out of court by the judges.

    • @frogzie
      @frogzie 7 років тому +1

      I'm glad to hear that European systems still are not as broken as it is in the USA (or Australia). Following your coaching sessions in Canada, what do you reckon the system is in there, still OK or is it crappy too?

    • @crosstrainingenduro
      @crosstrainingenduro  7 років тому +1

      similar to the US apparently. traction erag had to make sure we had insurance cover each time through a local club or similar.... :(

      @crosstrainingenduro  7 років тому +1

      definitely, we've adopted the same system here and the canadians said it's big there too. i think it's more than fear though, it's weighing up the cost of defending yourself in court.

    I know this is an advance technique. Since my gumby experience is beginner to intermediate, I will use a speed bump in a parking lot to slap and use as a lifter.

  • @fredman1085

    I've found I don't need spotters. I just get a bunch of helium balloons tied to my handle bars and it keeps them upright. Visibility is pretty bad and their flopping around can be annoying too but the worst part is I haven't figured out how to keep them after the first closed in wooded area :(

    • @fredman1085
      @fredman1085 7 років тому +1

      A lot of that depends on the terrain; rocky, sandy, smooth, and you and your bike's weight along with how fast you ride and hit obstacles. Also, heavy duty tubes vs regular tubes makes a difference too.
