Played this event ther first time yesterday to test out the new mechanics, when I realized every match was max 8vs8 with most being 6vs6 I continued to play for 10 hours straight without getting tired/pissed at the game. That's the first time I've done that since the old prop days... Gaijin I don't give a fck about the new damage mechanic I want smaller matches T_T. Though one of the things I realized pretty quickly is that bombers/ground-pounders *need* their own gamemode if smaller matches are ever implemented. Quite a few times did my team entirely consist of ground-pounders while the enemy was in MiG 29s... still more fun than normal queue tho.

I hated top tier for a long time now. Played this and was immediately pulled it. I saw dogfights and proper BVR jousts for the FIRST TIME without having anyone intervene or rarely intervene. Games lasted longer, not because we had to search for hidden players, but because everyone was busy fighting each other instead of the instant melt that teams usually go through. I wish they'd get their heads out of their asses and listen this time because in this event top tier was, for the first time, actually fun...
I’ve said it before but it’s not the number of players that makes it fun or unfun. It’s the fact that in most matches everyone just flies to the middle. So the more people you have the more of a flustercluck it is. If gaijin fixes the furball, then larger matches will be fun. But clearly they aren’t doing that
Also the how long matches last, longer matches is more fun, when you land multiple times and fight in a methodical way. This doesn't for props because they're slow and only got guns but for jets that are fast and has long range missiles, it's not working to just furball, you need a more methodical play style. Also just TDM is boring, we need more objective based gameplay like in arcade bombing bases to win or in EC providing air support for ground forces etc. Current just kill everyone's in 5-8 minutes and win matches are just boring and repetitive.
the thing is, severe damage is only as described in the devblog, basically only if you destroy all control surfaces or all engines of the aircraft. so if you have lets say a 2 engine aircraft, and destroy one of the engines, that would be a critical hit, but given enough time, the aircraft may not have enough power to fly back to the airfield and crash, so eventually it will only be assist. Or it can spin out, especially noticable in high power aircraft where each engine produces massive amount of power so losing one would really destabilize the plane TLDR is that severe damage is 100% going to crash if not close to airfield, and critical hit is may/may NOT land back at the airfield. severe damage just marks that the enemy is very crippled in their mobility, while critical hit is just partial hit to mobility/manuverability
smaller lobbies (6v6 or 8v8) and less furball-y games could be more fun IF what you enjoy is a more methodical slow game. I don't specifically enjoy the chaos and random bullshit of 16v16 but in a much smaller game mode there'd be so little action. A good 1v1 dogfight (impossible in 16v16) or offensive/defensive missile slinging is ultimately very satisfying, on the other hand getting 1 or at best 2-ish kills a game in a 20 minute 6v6 would make the grind absolutely atrocious and even slower than it is. I am hard-stuck around 11-12 BRs because even with 3-4 kills a game consistently I can only get a fraction of the RP and SL rewards I need.
The maps could be bigger with multiple >4 spawn points. The maps are so chaotic and repetitive. There’s no surprise, you know where everyone is spawning from. Same problem with grb that leads to spawn killing
@@Ryan-go6idand too open, there's no big hills that can separate engagements like arcade mode has. My favorite map is Mountains, China map in arcade as you start high, choose which engagement to join and dive to fight between hills. This just proves that the best solution for top tier is allowing us to queue for the game size we want. Just let us select how big we want our games to be. 8v8 was fun because you were able to play and have fun, but 60-70% of the games I played were really short. 16v16 is sometimes good because it allows the possibilty for really high kill games. My personal fav was 12v12 because it had the best balance for me. Please Gaijin, allow us to choose the team sizes in the future. (Also please tune severe damage, but pretty good job there honestly)
the 8v8 should definetly only apply to the max BR bracket, cuz farming with boosters is gonna become pretty damn bad when matches end in 2 seconds and you dont get any 25 min matches with massive grinds
I'll try to not sound mean, but props had their time a long ago. Like everything, moving on is okay as long as they don't leave it untouched, like the BR changes, they always keep an eye there, so it's not a dropped part of the game at all.
Now I missed the event, but I wonder: when are they going to implement such match sizes into the game? Clearly they think about it, giving us the event, right? And so if we won't see the changes in player count in the next, i don't know, 3 months+, then what the hell? Although I do understand (or guess) that they did the event mostly to test the Severe Damage mechanics. However, I'd expect they change player count when going live with the Severe Damage changes.
not a lot of people knew about the event, this is why the matches were sometimes 5v5 and sometimes 10v10 as in the video.. and sometimes it took a minute or two to find a match for me.. for example i was looking for a custom battle when i saw the severe damage mechanic test in the events tab
What is your thought on a small match like (8x8) but with respawns like ground rb? Would still keep the fur ball small but keep the games more than a few mins.
Having smaller lobbies should definitely be looked at but imo this is not a good test of it as a concept. Due to the way the event is set up a lot of the problems of having 8v8 or similarly sized lobbies aren't apparent.1) The event had reduced rewards so almost no one was bombing in it so teams were compromised of mostly fighters.2) because of the br limits no one could waste player slots by bringing in props.3) because it's an event and had a smaller player pool there was less people team killing or dying on spawn.
My r73 ate the elevator of the j11 and he's spinning around like a kite but my team killed him and i got nothing but the assist. So the mechanic is probably bugged at this time.
