Sue!!!! Your awesome DIY wreath using marigolds is absolutely gorgeous! I loved it last year and I love it more this year! I am amazed at how the one from last year still looks like new. Super cool project. I need to start growing marigolds over here. Uh and I am sure the animals are enjoying that you are sharing the marigolds with them. My friend recently gave me lots of daffodil's bulbs do not know which ones they are so it will be a surprise for next year, and I am certainly looking forward to it.
Hi and thanks for your kind note. I love that marigold wreath too. How exciting that you have lots of daffodils to plan this season. It will be fun to see which varieties you have. That is something great to look forward to.
Thanks so much. I love making wreaths and I think this one makes the perfect autumn decorations. You will love it when you make yours. Thanks for watching.
My friends call me a seed Ninja. On a recent trip to the UP I got a seed pod from a fringed gentian, calendula & pearly everlasting. I have a fabulous pink/purple ruffled delphinium that I collect seeds from each year. I have one section of my garden planted with a daffodil mix of early to late bloomers.
A year ago I discovered thousands of white daffodils growing in the woods behind my home but on the neighbors side. She allowed me to dig up a few clumps and I plan to plant them in several places in my back yard. I know they will naturalize and I look forward to seeing them bloom next spring. Your wreath is beautiful!
Thanks for this little tutorial, Sue. My veggie garden is heaving with marigolds. I picked up the silica gel and can't wait to start making my own wreath. I've got daffodils on order. Lots! First time I've ordered daffodils and I can't wait to plant them and see them in the spring. We bought an acre and a third about five years ago and we're switching it up from grass and a single blue spruce to a mini parkland. Such an adventure! An aside: Thanks for introducing me to Penelope Hobhouse. I purchased a few of her books after you spoke about her. Wonderful! Love your channel!
Where do you purchase silica sand or gel? What is the difference? I searched on Amazon but there were so many and many different prices. I need to know what to order and what to expect for cost. Thank you.
I had no idea how to pull seeds from marigolds. I have the most beautiful marigolds in my flower box so now I will pull the seeds thanks to you and plant for next year!
I will be planting daffodil bulbs that were passed on to me by a friend. I am hopeful that my spring alliums will self seed. Last year was the first year I grew alliums, and I loved them! 🦋🦋🦋
The wreath you made a year ago has retained its colour brilliantly. I’m going to grow marigolds next year just so I can make one of these, great tutorial!
What a lovely wreath! I save my marigold seeds every year and end up with more than I can plant! I also garden in southeast Michigan and sadly the chipmunks, squirrels, and rabbits treat my tulip bulbs and flowers like a salad bar, so I don’t plant them mI planted a ton of daffodils and allium. I got them from Costco but I’m waiting on an order for the Martha Stewart daffodil. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much and hello fellow Michigan gardener. I know what you mean about the rodents eating your bulbs. Daffodils and alliums tend to be great survivors in the garden. Great pick!!
Nice to see you again! Yes, it’s seed collecting time again already. Seems this year I was inside more than out because of rain, heat and mosquitoes. I never tested my zinnia seeds to see if they crossed as I just have a mix of original zinnias. We finally got rain🎉 5.88”. It’s been so dry and Hot in WI-last drops of rain was August 30th. I grew the Alaska marigolds this year and they start white, but turn yellow. Neighbor asked why I planted all those flowers-😅I didn’t, the orange marigolds just replant themselves-I let them be and they are really shining everywhere now. Oh wow, the wreath looks great after a year! How did your boxwoods do? Were you able to save them? Ugh! I was planting perennials yesterday and dug into my spring bulbs! 😲😭. The problem I’m having is there are annuals and glads where I wanted the perennials. I knew I was close and I guess I was! I’m doing everything backwards and having a difficult time. I don’t have the hardscaping in as there are some reclaimed stone/brick that my husband will hopefully be getting. I think I might just need to go buy it. The other thing is a better larger fenced in area as the wildlife will destroy everything if it’s not in place. And yet Another thing is all the utilities run nearby-I definitely have the gas line marked. I struggle with this side of the house as with a metal roof I can’t plant under the roof overhanging as the snow would flatten plants so I’m trying to create a statue garden sitting area away from the house a bit. There is so much that will need to be moved for sitting area and I should have known the bulbs were there 🤦♀️. It’s a work in progress for sure. I had the ice cream scoop tulip, but only a leaf came up this year and might need to replace it. The frilly flowered bulbs came up and they were nice surprise. Would like some more fragrant hyacinths and alliums. Oh, I’m attracted to the colored center daffodils like your mom. The tuff thing is remembering where those bulbs are 🙄.
Hi there! The BT is working for the boxwood moth, but I am not convinced it will last. The shrubs that were hit look pretty bad. I'll see how things go next season. Thanks so much for sharing an update on your garden. I never seem to pay attention to where I plant bulbs and am always digging them up when I plant perennials. I should employee a system to mark them, but never get around to it. Happy gardening! Thanks for watching.
Sue the behind your shoulder shot in the beginning is just so pretty. Such a fan of your garden! I don't think I'm going to do any more bulbs for now. I only have daffodil bulbs & the last few years I planted a TON to make sure we got the yellow show we were after. I may have to plant (or divide) more in the future, since the squirrels (??) are digging some of them up! Grrrrrrrrr
Thanks so much and thanks for watching. I feel your pain with the squirrels. I lost all 25 Queen of the Night bulbs I planted in containers last season. I am planning to use chicken wire this year. It sounds like you will have a gorgeous daffodil display. I love those bulbs!
Thanks so much. I tried drying one of my larger zinnias and it faded quite a bit. It is probably worth experimenting, but my first try didn't turn out well. I'd love to hear if you have luck.
Loved the wreath! Do you have squirrels that dig up your tulips? Did you leave last years tulips in the ground or did you dig them up for replanting now? Thanks.
Hi Sue, I am so inspired by your gardens! I am currently hunting a fountain for my garden that could maybe be my Christmas present this year 😁 do you remember any of the dimensions of your fountain or the boxwood distances from it? I love the look of the fountain ringed with boxwoods but want to make sure I’m getting the right scale. I’m thinking somewhere around 5 foot in height for the fountain??
I can see the top tier of that fountain right at eye level and I am 5'8" tall. I needed to place the fountain on a cement platform to get the right height. The boxwood are planted roughly 2- 3 feet away from the base of the cement platform the fountain sits on. I used to have an urn in the center. I am not sure where you live, but be careful of boxwood moth. I am likely going to lose the boxwood in my garden eventually to this invasive pest. I am spraying BT, but the boxwood around the fountain look bleak. You may want to consider an alternative. I would ask your local garden center for advice of boxwood moth have made it to your area. Good luck and happy gardening. Thanks for being here.
Hi Sue, in your opening remarks what are the two golden small shrubs behind and on either side of you ? I know I have seen them many times in gardens and of course now that I would like one I can not remember the name ! 😊
I love zinnias but this will be my last year growing them as the Japanese Beetles completely decimate the leaves making the plants look terrible. I enjoy your channel - from 🇨🇦
Thanks for watching. I am sorry to hear you are having issues with Japanese beetles. I tend to attract the beetles to the kiss-me-over-the-garden-gate flowers I grow. The beetles love those plants. The good part of that is they tend to leave other plants alone and I know where to focus my energy in the morning to collect them. They are destructive pests indeed. Thank you for being here.
For whatever reason I only purchased fall crocus and colchicum bulbs this Spring. Maybe I thought we had enough of a spring show when I was making my order. So I’m going to have immediate gratification and the fun of watching the neighborhood dog walkers looking confused when they see what they think are giant crocus and little crocus flowers out of season in my garden.
Thanks so much. I love that wreath too. I wish the ground hog didn't eat my plants because I wanted to make a bigger one this year. I'll try again next season. I use triangle bead sorting trays. You can get them at craft stores, bead stores, and Amazon. They are perfect for sorting seeds.
Sue I like the 2023 wreath too, even though it's fading, on camera it looks great. This is such a wonderful project. thanks for sharing again :)

If you leave the wreath outside it will fade faster and not last as long. That has been my experience. I find they last longest inside.
