"This is my instrument. There are many like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my instrument is useless. Without my instrument, I am useless."
Oh my gosh! What can one say about that?! WOW! SEMPER FI 🇺🇸 ⚓️ 🇺🇸 👍👏
Excellent! Thanks for all of the hard work which went into this performance.
Bravo !!!
Wonderful!
Thank you for your wonderful musicality!
Beautiful music! A nice pleasure to hear you.. what a great piece of music I love so much this .. Fantastic ❤.. Thank you to The United States Marine Band
¡This is a beautiful performance, so magnificent!
So miss these old transcriptions - the introduction to classical music when I was in school.
Not an old transcription, but quite new...and in the original key, requiring the clarinetists to play both A and Bb clarinets...as Dvorak did.
Brilliant! Again -- as always! A wonderful presentation of a difficult piece! I get teary-eyed every time I listen to it. Thank you fine folks for this bit of excellence. And sorry, but have to disagree with earlier comment that recommended switching to omni-pattern mics . . that would not remedy the VERY small imperfections in this recording. Just my 2¢ . .
this arrangement elegantly slaps
This piece for orchestra premiered in Prague in 1892 before the composer’s trip to America. Dvořák’s extended stay in the US lasted until the return to his home country in 1895. During that time, do we know if his path crossed that of JP Sousa?
I'm not really sure, but it's pretty doubtful. Sousa was director of the Marine Band in Washington from 1880-1892. After that, he started touring with his own concert band.
Some excellent technical playing, but suffering from tuning problems at times
Should we lose every musical group in America, as long as we have the US Marine Band we’ll be okay.
Who is the clarinet player at 4.22? A little more subtlety please.
That Eb Clarinetist has to get a grip on her intonation. This time she has really dropped the ball. But it does seem she is more attentive when the Colonel is directing. It might also help to pull back the mics back a bit or switch to omni directional patterns.. Mercury Living Presence style of recording went out of style back in the late 60's. Listen to some Chandos, Reference recording and Dallas Winds for examples. We are trying for authentic concert sound not PA system sound.
Can we please keep things on a positive note? The very fine "Eb" clarinetist is actually playing a D clarinet, to accommodate the original key. The Chandos and Reference recordings are made in very controlled circumstances, with careful mike placement, and multiple takes. This is a live performance, captured on video by the excellent audio/visual lab of the US Marine Band. You really can't compare this to a controlled recording environment. BTW, many consider the Mercury Living Presence to be BETTER than the modern Chandos sound.
Fantastic!
