Glad you brought this issue to light. I have a new Wavian Jerry Can arriving tomorrow, but I paid less for the one without a spout. I bought a free-flow aftermarket spout for it from a separate vendor. No flange to worry about. We’ll see if it works okay with no leaks. Fingers crossed!
@@Azure1Zero4 Absolutely! It came today, and the first problem was that the rubber gasket in the aftermarket neck was thin, making a fairly loose connection. I’m ordering a set of gaskets from Wavian to see if that makes it useable. I’ll post the result on here. 😉 Trial and error I guess! (PS: The can is really nice though! The lid and locking pin work very smoothly). 😃
@@Azure1Zero4 Sure enough, replacing the thin gasket on the aftermarket free-flow nozzle with a nice thicker Wavian gasket did the trick. Nice tight fit, and worked fine without leaks. 😉 Thank you again for the informative video! 😃
Recently purchased one of the 10L cans with the same spout. Have not used it yet, but there appears to be a sealant compound around the joint where the spot welds are.
I have one of the old British army nozzles, works great on the rare occasion that I need a pour spout. My M37 has a pull out strainer in the fuel filler neck, so I just keep the spout on the truck in case I need to help out a stranded motorist or something.
They make really good gas cans. Unfortunately, they make the EPA friendly nozzles. I suggest, go ahead and buy yourself a nato free-flowing spout. They are amazing bundle together!
Exactly. I used my brand new wavian can with spout to fill a generator in my garage and it spilled all over the place including the generator itself.. It made a mess. I'm no engineer (I watch oceans) but it needs a new design (or get rid of epa requirements).
Y'all hate on the Chinese knockoff cans but you can buy the whole can and a nonleaking spout with it for about the same cost as one of those defective spouts alone. I have 2 of the 10 liter and 1 of the 20 liter cans and all 3 spouts are good. I bought corks that fit the end of the spout (I don't need or use the rubber extension they also come with) so i can leave the spout on the can when i want to. The knockoff spouts are not EPA, they are free flowing.
I've had the same leak issue on both of my Wavian fuel spouts. Wavian sent replacement o-rings and screws but the spout still leaked after replacement. Now, one of the spouts will not compress to enable pouring.
It's not a matter of faulty o-rings or screws like I point out in the video. It's the poorly attached flange. New o-rings don't fix a leak happening before them. I tried new o-rings myself which is how I discovered the issue.
I have four cans and all the spouts it came with leak. I even bought one of their upgraded all metal spouts and it leaks too. Not impressed. Love the can but for the price, there shouldn't be an issue like this.
EPA nozzle shattered like glass during shipping. The plastic is cheap. They make them just so they can sell them in the us. Tossed them and got the regular free flow nozzles.
While that would work. It's not that simple due to the powder coat and it being partially plastic. It will need to be dismantled. To weld it properly you will need to remove some of the red powder coat to get contact with the metal to ground too. You also don't want the paint contamination in the weld. Welding would require just as much work as just building a new one. Even after welding it would need repainted and assembled again.
Just bought a new Wavian and my spout works like a charm. Maybe they fixed something in the last 10 months based on feedback like yours? Thanks for the video.
Those Valpro manufactured cans cost twice as much in the USA as they do in other parts of the world, Wavian likely has a large profit margin You personally as a welder should be able to repair the spouts easily by brazing or welding the collar Anyone at home should be able to solder the collar if they don't have the equipment to braze or weld Obviously take appropriate precautions if the spout has been used with flammable fluids!
@@Azure1Zero4 I'm not from the USA, we don't have to use that plastic junk. If they only have to be sold with the silly USA style plastic spout, and you can legally use the other type, then just buy the Valpro flex spout and be done with it Wavian charge practically double what the equivalent can can be bought for internationally, look for Valpro made alternatives
@@Azure1Zero4 I just purchased 2x ProQuip Valpro made diesel jerry cans for the equivalent of USD40ea and the flexible metal spouts at equivalent of USD15ea ( relatively run of the mill 20% discount sale) Is there a Canadian or Mexican equivalent you can import without paying a fortune in delivery?
@@scod3908 If your Canadian you would be better getting Scepter fuel cans instead. They are what the army replaced the metal NATO cans with. Honestly knowing what I know now. I would have gone that route instead. Not sure about mexico.
I just ordered a Wavian can to replace two Rotopax cans. Rotopax has a good can but their spouts not only suck, but also allows gas to leak while in storage in the flat position due to cheap gaskets on the new "eco" nozzles which you can't buy the gaskets separately. I carry a long funnel to pour gas so spouts are really a non issue with me.
I have considered a funnel before. Problem is its not always a good option for direct fills. What I would do is transfer to an empty can with a funnel and use that can for filling.
Thanks for the review. Unfortunately my wife didn't see this and bought me two of these cans as a gift (since I've been struggling with the Home Depot pieces of junk). One so far is leaking pretty terribly. Did you ever find a good solution?
Ultimately I just ended up buying a few Valpro Flex Spouts. The color determines how hard it is to find. If its green amazon has a listing. Red is the hardest to find and can be located by searching the internet. Hope this helps.
Mine were all new and leaked. While I have had gas leak from improper fitment a few times. It's obvious where it's leaking. If you need to get the EPA spouts to work. I would try putting a bead of JB weld around the connection point on the neck of the flange. You lose the ability to tear it apart but it shouldn't leak. I eventually just bought 2 Wavian flex spouts to try. I really like them. They work well for filling up vehicles or my No spill cans as they are big and high flow. I use my Wavians cans for storage of fuel and my No spill cans for yard equipment or my generator. I don't recommend use of the Wavian cans for anything precise. There are two styles of flex spouts Wavian makes. The European style where it's a rigid spout with a flex end and the traditional style. I have the traditional ones. Hope this helps.
Yes the hose sucks. Shouldn’t bet in those anyway. Use a shaker hose or a harbor freight transfer pump. Even the “better” flex metal spout from Wavian sucks. I own 8 of these cans. Spout does not match the quality of the can.
Just bought new in June and on second spout from Wavian. This one leaks just as bad. This can is really not useful, it is very hard to pour without the spout. I would not store gas in this, pretty much useless.
Unfortunately you're probably going to have to buy Wavian's metal flex spout. The safety spout that comes with the can are mostly useless. I got one of their flex spouts and it doesn't leak. It's really annoying after paying so much.
@@philr5658 Depends on the color you need. Amazon has the green ones. I used ebay to get my red ones but I have seen the black ones there too. The red color seems to be the hardest to track down from my experience. You might have to do a little shopping around to find red.

you need to get a jiggler siphon. and only use the jerry cans to fill tanks 5 gallon or larger.
