    Sam, what you've done for aviation enthusiasts with your photos and videos is nothing short of amazing. Many thanks for your downright legendary contributions -- most of us can only dream of the things you are able to do, and I appreciate that you've documented them so well for the rest of us.

    Great video Sam Chui, I flew about 3000 hours as Pilot In Command on B707 and E3a-AWACS. In the cockpit is was just as much fun flying this airplane as seening your video. I will be looking forward seeing more of your interesting films. Happy landings, Arend.

      The thing that wows me the most is that the overhead luggage compartments are not sealed containers, they are simple racks! Wouldn't they be worried about luggage falling off during turbulence?

    You could use the 707's tail number and look up the age of the place, and its history. It could easily be 50-55 years old. Really amazing. Wonderful video, and the music, too! I flew 707s when I was a kid.

    this video made my night and made my day......this is the mother of commercial jet liner travel....it sent me right back to my child hood first time international travel and it was on a Boeing 707.. ..its the aircraft that shaped my passion for commercial jet liners....that unique sound of those choir girl engines as they sing treble at takeoff thrust then the mid range as she gets up to speed followed by the bass from behind.....on landing the down scale cut just before the thud on the runway the few second pause and loud scream of reverse thrust....goose pimples from beginning to end oh i almost cried after a shout of passion....there aint no other aircraft for me that generates the excitement of air travel for me like the boeing 707....to the memory of the good ole girls of those good ole days......

    Thanks for the walk down memory lane on this early Boeing 707, complete with the wonderfully noisy Pratt & Whitney JT3D (J-57) jet engines! I have been flying on jets since 1961 and likely flew some of the earliest 707s like this one and a few with Rolls Royce engines. The appearance of the engines and the scream they make reminds me of dozens and dozens of times my family used to go on vacation all over the world when I was younger. As a kid, I never took it for granted. I always got a window seat and had my face pressed to the window for the entire flight. Just the kerosene smell of those old "coal-burner" engines got my adrenaline flowing as we drove to the airport. The interior of the Saha 707 is exactly as I remember it, with the huge consoles above the seats and the chintzy florescent lights behind the metal runner shades with holes punched in them. The flying was always exciting with the engines churning up the sky...and roaring like hell when we landed. I remember the door to the cockpit and the doors in the galley used to open all the time from the vibration. Keep up the good work!

    With Iran now having a good relationship with the US and EU, we sadly have to say goodbye to this historic fleet. I am happy for Iran that they are now getting A320's B737's and A380's, but as a flight geek it saddens me to think that in a few years, it will be the same types of aircrafts you see no matter where you go.

    I love these videos. The choice of music is always very apt. That was a very long take-off roll, given it's a turbofan 320 on a short flight. I flew across the Atlantic twice on Donaldson's ex-Pan Am 707's still powered by turbojets. Incredibly long take-off roll on those underpowered birds. A year later I flew non-stop for 11 hours from Gatwick to Vancouver on a British Caledonian -320, one of the nicest flights I've ever had. Lovely plane.

    It's not that I don't trust the 707. I was a great plane. It's just that as an engineer, I know about a certain thing called structural fatigue that's brought on with age.....the passengers are probably right to thank God after the safe landing...

    • @stimodin
      @stimodin 7 років тому +26

      They probably had less cycles when they retired then most of Delta´s fleet. They where old, but built as tankers for the Iranian Air Forces, and seen very little use until the 1990s, and even after that the have seen much less use then what a american or european airline would have used them.
      So the cycles isn´t the big problem her, but lack of parts an maintainance probably.

    • @ClockworksOfGL
      @ClockworksOfGL 6 років тому +2

      Woody Ridenour - The 707 is a beast. IIRC, it was used as the “Vomit Comet” (look it up) for years because its sturdy construction could handle so much abuse. An Airbus would’ve fallen apart at the first attempt, although Airbuses tend to fall apart anyways.

    • @WillScaryForCandy
      @WillScaryForCandy 6 років тому +11

      Don't be silly and make comments you don't know anything about. Airbus used one of their first built planes, an A300B2, for the European "vomit comet" for decades. They finally made it into a museum piece and replaced it with yet another great aircraft, the A310.

    Can't believe there are still any of these old workhorses still up in the air! I remember riding the B707 a few times when I was a kid (I was born in 1967). I would be worried flying these old planes in a country like Iran where there had been an international embargo placed for a couple of decades. Would worry they'd lack the parts to properly service the planes. Interesting to see no overhead compartment bins, just a shelf. Would think that would be none too safe in the advent of turbulence. On another note, I wonder how Iraqis are treated in Iran. I know they share the Islamic religion but I believe one is primarily Shiite while the other is primarily Suni and they fought an 8 year war from which there is still bad blood between them. Finally, just want to commend you on your editing. Love the fact that you include a little about the culture and scenery along the way. Being a mountain person I loved seeing Mt. Damavand from on high. Really beautiful. Also enjoy the music you used which is very autochthonous to the region.

    Thanks for posting this. Really took me back to early 1976 when I flew a TWA 707 from PHL to LHR. I was a kid & didn't snap any photos, but I have pretty vivid memories of it despite only being 7. The closest I've come to flying such a vintage plane was 2 years ago when we flew a circa 1980 737 across Peru on Peruvian Airways, just days before it was shut down by the gov't. Man those old engines make a racket but they also get your blood pumping!

    Wow, nice vid. It's been about 25 years since I worked on one of these. I think this is an original 707 because only has one turbo compressor on #3 engine (the other on #2), but the engines appear to be JT3D. I remember those old PSU, and the overhead shelf. That's 60's technology there! no WiFi, no tv, no cell phone chatter, one aisle from front to back..Good old days, indeed. Good job filming.

    Dear Sam, this video is amazing. Many thanks. I particularly like the roar of those P&Ws on take off, and the classy, quintessentially 1960s interior... lovely! I know the nostalgic, even can feel it...also flew lot of times in DC 8 and Caravelle planes, but is a big BUT and shadow site of course: these airplanes are claustrophobicly small, produces enormous noise and spoil extreme amounts of fuel! Let's never forget this in a world which is already noisy and polluted enough with limited oil resources.

    • @skuula
      @skuula 10 років тому +2

      True enough, but once an airliner generation was replaced by a more efficient one, it just resulted in even more demand and even more overall consumption and pollution...

      +firenze 87 Better and stronger build materials were used then, now with the extensive use of plastics and "advanced" crappy polymers/lightweight materials and complex flight management systems aircraft are safer yes, but their life expectancy is shorter than these true classic airliners, more than 40 years have passed since the production of 707's ceased and the one shown in the video still flies sound and good.
