Saw him perform at Trinity University in San Antonio May 20, 1972. Old people walked out when he went into the 7 dirty words bit. Some guys named Loggins & Messina opened.
He became the grumpiest old man at the end which made him even better, he just didn’t give a fuc$. Dave has almost reached his final form.
Towards the end he became more about making sociopolitical points than punchlines. But I think he was spot on with alot of his perspectives, so I dug his later years.
"Old fuck" 😂
Saw him on my birthday in like '04. Don't remember a thing. Was overwhelmed by finally seeing this guy, who'd been a part of every stage of my life. George helped me learn to read and how full of ---- the world can be. How the silly guy and the smartest guy in the room didn't have to be different people. He was like everyone's uncle, somehow. Just the best.
Carlin and Pryor are the best. Carlin's bit where he says "it's called the American Dream because you have to be asleep to believe it" was in his later years and is one of the best bits I have ever seen.
George the greatest, number one for me.
man, i wish people would appreciate him more.
now we have superstar kevin heart, matt rife and shit
carlin is more philosophical than funny to me. he’s a genius and his perspective is 1 of 1 but i think louis ck is the better version of him because he additionally focuses on poking fun at his own cynicism more than just presenting a cynical, albeit genius, worldview.
lol, that last joke at the end was awesome
Agreed, that was a great joke to go out on.
14 HBO specials, numerous albums before that
How many were good though?
He's no Hannah Gatsby@@belizetourism1218
And all the stuff before that was godawful
I got to see him perform a few months before he died, def had lost a step but any one who is a few months away from death will
Reddit's favorite comedian
cmon the autism coming thru lol
He did all those specials because he was in debt
I saw Carlin in Vegas back in '97 and he was doing all new material that he was working on. It was very anti religion and anti establishment and a good 20% of the audience left in horror. I stayed and laughed my ass off.
comedy, in general, ages like a porn star. it mostly relies on transient ideas that are only relevant to a certain group of people at a certain time period. this is why serious writers, artists, classical musicians piss themselves when they hear guys like Toe call themselves an artist. it's like subway sandwich workers calling themselves artists. Yes, it's pleasing and palatable, but you're just going to crap it out a few hours later. meanwhile, Shakespeare and Mozart will go on forever. and if you're lucky enough to be born into the right socioeconomic level, you'll be taught how to understand and appreciate complicated art...
