Tip: Look up the pulgar with rest stroke technique in Flamenco. That should allow plucking the bass with the thumb and simultaneously strumming or picking the lower strings.
There are guitars like this. The first time I saw one was in the music video for "Tonight Tonight" by the Smashing Pumpkins (although I don't think it's actually used in the song, just there for decorative purposes because the Pumpkins are "artsy" like that). I also saw one at a Guitar Center in their acoustic room, but I don't think it was for sale, I think it was just there (again) for decoration haha
1:05 I thought the same, first time I saw a harp uke. It only had two harp strings, at which point I reckon a guitarlele would be the preferable option. When you have the option, I'd say the more the merrier, though even with four extra strings, an upscaling or reshaping of the body and upping the scale length would be in order. A pear shaped body sized like a mandola would be perfect for the four harp strings.
I stumbled upon this completely by accident. I thought this was a joke. Lol (-: Oh my gosh. I can't believe there is such a thing called a harp ukulele. I have seen everything. I am now deeper into the UA-cam abyss. Awesome video. This is eye opening
This was quite eye-opening - thanks for all the really interesting details too. I really love the deeper, richer sounds of this instrument. Please play it for us more!👏🏻👏🏻💝
Gracie you a blessed person, just saw your lessons on intervals, really they made me understand them because of your easy teaching method.Indeed you are a great musician and teacher.
Your "Witchcraft" brought me back here and I'm so glad it did. Thank you for your vivacious enthusiasm for music, Gracie T. Today I plugged in my new tenor ukelele for the first. Tomorrow I will return and see what else I've been missing. I guess your witchcraft put a spell on me. 😊❤
Nice post. Thank You! Interesting instrument but I am light years away from tackling something that requires so much thought, I think??? I like the sound of it and it seems well made. I think you are a good musician and I like that you openly share with an honest viewpoint. I also watched your other posts with this instrument and big time enjoyed your cover of Billie Holiday's 'Comes Love" in French and left handed...lol which you did some fine work on. I am officially jealous! :)
Haha thank you so much! But actually it’s not a left handed uke… it’s just that I recorded the video on my laptop webcam and it automatically flipped the image so it just LOOKS left handed!
@@GracieTerzian I knew that it was a camera trick...nevertheless you play and sing well and have a very good sense of time. Thank You for sharing your talent for the rest of us to learn from.
Does the funny banana extension of the body actually do much sound wise, or would an extension of the headstock, like what you see on an baroque or swedish lute do the same?
Hi :) I heard you are amazing Rotem Sivan told me ;D so,then I have an amazing questions 1 - I have a problem with something called harmonic Major ;) Practically anyone talks about it, there are no songs in harmonic Major and his modes, just nothing only some general information about the construction of this scale. So,maybe you have some interesting information about modal music in general, but with an emphasis on harmonic Major and his modes? :D Have you made any videos about it or are you planning to do them in future? it's a very interesting topic, e.g. functional harmony in harmonic Major. Normally on second degree we have subdominant ii,right? but in harmonic Major ii is diminished,vi is augmented and iv i minor. Diminished chord is treated like rootless dominant in natural Major but in C harm.Major it would be flat A7 ,but a flat is augmented and G7 is dominant... If you can recommend something, a book, songs list in harmonic Major modes etc. or make a video about it, i'll be thankful 2 - in context of Jerry Bergonzi - Melodic structures vol 1 we have 4 notes shapes to exercise with chord but it is somewhere a book with composing exercises ??? How to create a verse, chorus, and transition between them that everything could be consistent? How to create modal compositions in chosen mode? Or how to make ionian verse/intro, ionian #5 break, ionian b6 chorus or/and, how to create compositions in a chosen genre flamenco verse/intro, jazz break, country chorus and classical outro
these are much more interesting issues but I don't know where to look for training materials :( Best regards PS my English is not very good, I used the google translator, I hope you understand what I mean :D
Are ukes your main instrument? What else do you play (I see that keyboard behind you) For some reason I can picture you playing an Oud or an orchestra harp, but I'll bet you can play just about anything.
fabrique uno pero no se como conseguir las cuerdas esas podrias mostrar el paquete de las cuerdas harpa o el nombre y la marca al mio por aora le puse dos cuartas y dos quintas de guitarra
So... if you want to be somewhat efficient, tine the bass strings to whatever "Axis of Awesome" key/chord progression fits your style and go for broke? 😊 Thank you 🙏 for this interesting and informative video.

This is so helpful, thank you!
Can you play the harp with your toes??? That video would get some hits. Lol. Love your style and heart. Great job.

Every now and then I build one. Have one more or less done now. You'd love it just for the looks.
I am really curious about what are your musical goals and curiosities? Great videos and wonderful energy
My goals are to write really beautiful music, learn as much as I can about music myself, and teach what I know to others
Thank You 🙏

Yay! Harp 'ukulele!
I had mine made by Nestoe of NFC 'ukuleles. It's all cocobolo. It's beautiful in looks and sound!

is it hard to get strings for the four bass notes?
Hmm sort of… I got mine from anuenue… some people might even use guitar strings? I’m not sure but I will look into this
@@GracieTerzian I believe mine is strung with titanium baritone strings. Was also told I could use 3,4,5,6 guitar strings.

Neat. How long must your nails be to pluck those strings?
you can keep them a little long but honestly you can pluck strings with the fleshy part of your fingers or thumb
Play U2?
